I’ve only just purchased this powder and so far it has impressed me. It has 2 uses, as a mix in medium to mattify your foundation or as a setting powder. I’ve so far only used it as a setting powder and it has kept me shine free all day, during some surprisingly hot UK summer weather.
The packaging is quite cute, the container covered in purple velvet! The sifter has only a few holes so I turn it upside down ( lid on of course) then open the container. It contains just the right amount of powder which I apply with a small kabuki brush on top of my foundation.I usually have a very shiny nose within a couple of hours of applying a powder , but this powder lasts all day, 12 hours at least.
A product that certainly delivers!
Ok, I finally used the velvetizer mixed in with a Boots No7 foundation on a really hot day, during our UK heatwave. I’ve not really been wearing much make up recently due to the hot weather, but I was going to a formal occasion and needed to glam up. I mixed the foundation and velvetizer on the back of my hand and although I only used a small amount of powder, the foundation really thickened up and I needed more foundation than usual to complete my face. The foundation went on smoothly with a brush, streak free and set very quickly. My make up looked good at the start of the day and I’m pleased to say it was still looking good 10 hours later, no tough ups needed except lipstick. I will certainly be using the velvetizer again as a mix in medium, but only for occasional use due to the extra amount of foundation needed. For everyday use, I will use it as a setting powder.

I haven’t used this powder mixed with foundation, rather I use it to set my foundation and it is fantastic.
PRICE: First off, you do not need a lot of this product AT ALL! Although the price seems steep for what you get, a pot lasts me a lot longer than any other powder has, so you definitely get value for money.
COVERAGE: unlike some translucent powders, this product does not bleach out your foundation (you don’t get that ghostly look) and neither does it oxidize your foundation (a number of other powders I’ve used make my foundation shade slightly darker).
FINISH: It gives a completely matt finish that genuinely looks like you’ve been airbrushed/velvet skin. It lives up to it’s name! I can go a little shiny through the day, and do sometimes top up with Fenty Invisimatte, which wasn’t a problem. This product plays well with others; there is no separation or nasty effects from using another powder.
SKIN TYPE: I have dry skin and this product is not at all drying. It may not be great for those with oily skin (I highly recommend Bare Minerals Original Veil Powder as setting powder for anyone with oily skin) but I have found it works wonders for me!
This is now a staple item in my makeup kit! Completely love!
UPDATE: As of 7th June 18, I am just coming to the end of my first tub of this powder. I wear makeup 6 days of every week and one pot of this powder has lasted me 7 months!!! Fantastic value for money!! Have changed price score from 4/5 to 5/5.

I love this stuff and am on my second pot. It’s annoying I have to buy from the boutique rather than Debenhams but I’ll get over it.
So I tried this mixed with my foundation and didn’t like it. It just made it harder to blend and I didn’t find that it increased the longevity of my foundation.
Used as a setting powder however, this is the best thing for my skin. I have rosacea on my cheeks and regardless of how I prep my skin, or what foundation I use, unless I use this powder in particular I have patchy wear half way through the day. Using a fixing spray genuinely keeps my face looking flawless all day. PS I don’t know what it is about my skin that seems to make things slide off the redness but it’s not oil!
It’s expensive for what it is so I want to try something a little more affordable although I’m not sure what. I’d also prefer the packaging to be a compact just for ease. Other than that I’d buy again if I can’t find a cheaper replacement.

My mom picked this off of my Christmas list and got it for me as a present. So I didn’t buy it and I’m thankful she got it for me so I could try it but I’m not a fan. It’s $34 for powder. I think if you have really oily skin you might like this. My skin is combo but mostly dry right now because of the weather. I can get a little whiny throughout the day but nothing crazy. I mixed this with the catrice liquid HD on Xmas and that’s a super thin/liquidy foundation and this stuff made it thicker and Cakey and dry up pretty quick so I had to work fast but still had a lot on my hand I couldn’t use because it all dried up. It felt sooo dry going on my face I felt so dry and Cakey. I didn’t even set my foundation with powder because it was so dry. I didn’t really pay attention to how it looked because it was Christmas and I was busy. I used it as a setting powder yesterday and it was nothing special. I like my coty airspun better. I agree with below that you could mix any powder with your foundation and get a similar result. This one is just name brand. But again if you are super oily you might really like this! My skin just doesn’t need that much mattifying. Even if I had paid the $34 for this myself I’d return it. It’s going back soon.

Editing to add: I just want to state that start out with a teeny tiny bit mixed into the foundation. Talc works better for me than silica HOWEVER its easier to form a (too) dry paste that renders the foundation mixture as…disgusting. Work with it. Its easy to add in a tiny bit of powder but impossible to remove any once you mix the two.

Not a bad product but AngelBritney’s review here is right on the money about it being easy to dupe. I am LMAO that Urban Decay is the first to launch one of these and everyone thinks it’s some sort of miracle product idea. My only critique to AngelBritney is that if you want to properly dupe this, go with a silica based powder as the Urban Decay one is basically silica and pigment. Talc in theory WILL also work but it won’t be as close of a dupe if you like the UD version. I personally will use a talc based powder as talc does a better job at absorbing *my* skin’s oils. Your mileage may vary.
The basis of this product is it thickens foundation, adds coverage (hence the pigments), and helps create a more matte look. So if you are oily, you’ll likely love this. I don’t see the point of dry skinned gals using this unless you use a boatload of moisturizer first. Some may be curious why not just use more powder to set the make up? The answer is mixing it in vs coating it after creates a more natural look and the powder has no choice but to adhere to the foundation.
Very innovative on Urban Decay’s part but I’ll be sticking to my regular face powder as a mix in.

If you want to have a cheap dupe, just buy any powder that is made out of silica or talc. Yes, basically any powder works fine as a mix-in medium (but please beware of any unusual colored powder, for example green or yellow). So if you want to spend extra money on the brand name, go ahead and try it. I’m sure it’s good as any cheaper powder.

This is a loose translucent powder that is supposed to make your foundation slightly thicker and help provide more coverage. So if your foundation is sheer-to-medium, you can get medium to full coverage by mixing in this powder into your foundation. The powder itself is probably the finest milled powder I’ve ever seen. It’s really hard to pick up with your fingers (though that’s what I do) and is super soft!! I always roll my eyes when YouTube “gurus” rave on about how “soft” a powder is… I mean – it’s a powder right? Baby powder is soft…. But this Velvetizer truly is extremely soft – you’ll know what I mean when you try it yourself.
I pour/squeeze some foundation on the back of my hand and sprinkle a little of this powder on top, then mix with my finger. The foundation (and I only use this for my sheer/medium coverage foundations), then turns slightly gel-like – kind of like when you add a little thickener like Xanthan Gum to a liquid product, but obviously not as tacky. I then blend the foundation to my skin as usual – I tend to first blend with my hand and then use a beautyblender to finish off. I find that I get a much smoother finish this way.
Anyway, once you’ve mixed this powder, you have to work really fast. No doting all over your face and then blending. Work in sections and work fast, as it makes foundations thicker, and therefore it dries quickly on your skin. You will notice straight away how much more coverage you will get but, more importantly, the way your foundation dries down is different. It feels velvety and soft. I can’t explain it. Some of my foundations (e.g. Smashbox 15 Hour foundation) can feel a little tacky even after they have supposedly dried down. With The Velvetizer, your foundations will always dry with a velvety finish and your skin genuinely feels like skin.
I also found that my foundation stays *exactly* as it was when I first put it on. I may be slightly dewey, but not quite as oily as I normally would have been (being a combo/oily girl). At the end of the day (and this is about 10-12 hours in), I look pretty much the same. That normally doesn’t happen unless I’m wearing Estée Lauder Double Wear or Becca Ultimate Coverage Foundation. I also don’t need to set with powder (something I hate doing anyways), but you can set your foundation with The Velvetizer since it’s a translucent powder.
All in all, I would repurchase. The packaging is – meh. The price isn’t great, considering how much you actually get (0.28 oz/8g). But the product itself? It’s pretty fantastic!
