I am such a makeup hoarder that I completely forgot I purchased this when it was originally released – I remember purchasing it because of its “limited edition” hype moreso than thinking it would be an HG type love. Now that I have re-discovered it and began to use it faithfully, I am regretting that I didn’t purchase an extra!
These shades may look underwhelming in the pan, but they are excellent highlighters for daytime use. Subtle may not be the right word, as that indicates something underwhelming, which these are not – they aren’t “in your face beaming from mars”, which is a good thing IMO (we have enough of those). These truly do highlight in a healthy way – great sheen but no disco ball effect. I get use out of all 3, which rarely happens in a set. No texture issues here, and these are perfect for dry skin.
Being that this was LE, I find its worth the price. I am sure it will last forever as well, much like the Ambient lighting palette trio which I have had since it came out, used daily, and still have yet to hit pan. 5 stars!

I’m going to start off by stating this is probably the most highlighting palette hourglass has made. It seems to me that these metallic shades give off that nice high shine sheen that you want with a highlighter. I am most impressed that as a pale person, I can wear all the shades. If I mix all three together it gives me a beautiful glowy look and I can wear the pink and gold shade individually, the rose gold shade will work on my fair skin but I prefer for it to be mixed together with the other two. I believe anyone who is light to the deepest shade will get a lot of use out of this palette. I have an original strobe powder and it’s more glittery, the metallic strobe powders are definitely more intense without being glittery and I prefer that. It’s $62 which is pricey but all hourglass is pricey. I feel like it delivers and this will last me a very long time. I’m still using a blush from them and it’s been almost 2 years and I wear it 5-6 times a week and I just hit pan last month. Overall, it’s a beautiful product that would be universally flattering.

I was really hoping that I wouldn’t like this, because it’s SO expensive ($75 CAD?!?!). But it’s absolutely beautiful and there’s no way I’m ever letting these highlighters go. As others have mentioned, the different shades don’t have a ton of underlying pigment so I can use all 3 on my NC25 skin tone with no issues. But also since there’s not a lot of underlying pigment, I feel like these would work out well on a wider variety of skin tones than they seem like they would.
I would also like to stress that this is a completely different formula from their strobe lighting powders (original highlighters). I was surprised at how underwhelming those were when I first tried them. They were chalkier and very subtle (and I don’t like blinding highlights so I feel like that’s saying a lot). These simply melt into your skin. They remind me of the Jouer highlighters, except I like these better because I think they last longer on my skin and they’re almost glossier looking.
Even though I have dry skin, I prefer powder highlighters because they last longer, but I like the look of the dewy, almost wet look cream/liquid highlights provide. So these are absolutely perfect for me. They don’t sell this formula individually yet but I’m sure they will since these seem to be such a hit. Also love that the brand is cruelty free and has committed to going vegan. If you have the cash, I would HIGHLY recommend these.

This is such a beautiful highlighting palette. I’ve been wanting to try a more glossy highlighter like Jouer but I couldn’t decide on a shade from Jouer. This came out and it appears to have the same glossy wet look to it. The shades are all very sheer and I can wear all three, even the dark one, easily. The pink one has very little color, just looks neutral on my neutral skin. The gold one is a soft gold, not overly yellow. And the third one makes me think of a very sheer Becca Opal. There is only sheen and gloss and no glitter. It last quite well on my oily combo skin. I can use it lightly for a softer glow and build it up significantly.
This is very expensive but I’m really glad I chose to splurge. The shades cover everything I can think of. I do think that if they ever release this formula individually you really don’t need more than one shade. The sheerness and glossy finish make them not look very different from each other on the face. I would probably actually buy the dark one if it’s every released individually. I think the dark shade is the most universal. The other two are nearly white, especially the pink. but all three are beautiful. I highly recommend this palette.

If you always wanted to try Hourglass strobe powders, but couldn’t really decide, then now is the time to give these little guys a whirl.
I personally think that Hourglass did a great job with their palettes this year and Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette is every highlighter junkie dream. You get three beautiful shades (everything from pale pearl to subdued rose gold) and you can easily transform your look from “natural glow” to “disco glow” in a few brush strokes. I am amazed at how much more intense and yet ethereal these highlighters are, compared to everything I already own (and I own a ton of highlighters).
If you want to see unedited swatches and more pros and cons, I have them in a separate review here (, hopefully it will help some of you guys. I am very happy that I got my hands on this palette and will use it non-stop for sure.
