I actually like how light the consistency of this lotion is — makes it good for putting on my dry legs in the winter without worrying about getting the bed sheets all gunky. I suppose this also makes it good for buildable moisture on the face, but I didn’t use it that way. The lavender lotion has a very mild scent but I kind of prefer something a little stronger to really get that calming effect.

I have this in a pump bottle version, cute package and that’s all it is. The consistency absolutely sucks; just smears over your skin and sits there, does not absorb and does not provide relief for dry skin. Also, the lotion smells awful. Don’t understand how that chemical smell qualifies as fragrance free…

What a terrible product. If I could give it zero stars I would.
Pros:
– fragrance-free (I’ve got an unscented blue bottle);
– paraben free;
– mineral oil free.
Cons:
– it doesn’t moisturize at all. It’s a first ever moisturizer that I dried out my skin. I put it after the shower, it was difficult to spread. While I was spreading it little red dots started to appear on the parts of my body where it was applied. Once I’ve finished application I’ve got a little dots all over. I was hoping it will calm down, so I waited… My skin became extremely dry. I never felt it so dry, I had to go back to the shower and wash it off. What a relief!
– despite drying my skin out it stayed sticky.
– the tube is made out of cheap thin plastic.
Terrible product. I regret throwing away the check.

I stubbled upon using this for my face by accident. I love the Honest line and was using the shampoo/body wash, conditioner, body oil, bubble bath, etc for my baby. I was so impressed with the line that I started using the lip balms (LOVE) and anything else I could find in my area from the company.
One day in a morning rush I picked up this lotion and used it on my face. I had been struggling with my skin (I have mild rosacea and get comedogenic acne) and my skin has been super sensitive since having my baby.
This instantly soothed my skin. My redness went away, and because it was summer the moisturizing level was perfect. All day my skin stayed redness-free and calm 🙂 It was wonderful. So I started using it on my face. It costs me $12.99 CAD and the bottle will last me forever if I just use it for my face. I use a dime size amount for my entire face and chest. It has a lot of slip, and if I feel like its not enough I layer more one. I pat in into my skin and kind of “press” it in.
Now that it’s getting to be fall/winter in Canada I find it not heavy enough, so I layer seabuckthorn oil (another godsend for my rosacea) with it. That combination keeps my skin hydrated and SO CALM. There is almost no redness.
I am so impressed with this lotion that I almost can’t believe I spent the money I used to on skincare. I’ve tried high end lines like Natura Bisse, La Prairie, La Mer etc and never found anything to give me calm, hydrated, soothed skin.
There is no fragrance/scent IMO and I don’t know where a scent would come from if you look at the ingredient list? The Honest Company does make scented versions of this lotion so maybe people are reviewing those? I use the fragrance-free/purely simple one:
Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Olivate, Glycerin, Sorbitan Olivate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil*, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol
I really love The Honest Company and have been really impressed with their products.

This lotion is white. Use only a small amount and build up as you go. Like others have said, this has a lot of slip. I also agree that later if it gets wet, it reactivates. It has a very light smell that disappears quickly. It is almost fragrance free for me. I appreciate that there are no silicones. I really enjoy this product.There is a lot of product for the value if you just use it on your face. I use it all over. Love this product. Please don’t stop making it.

This, and the body wash/shampoo combo, have several amazing properties in common. First, the orange & vanilla scent is divine. The apricot is almost unscented. Haven’t smelled lavender yet. Second, this is the only body lotion I’ve ever, EVER, trusted on my face. The only other product I use on both is monoi oil. I’ve used some of the Yves Rocher gels on both my face and hair, so Honest’s body wash/shampoo isn’t completely unique in that way, but pretty close to unique. Being able to use just two products makes things very very simple. Also, they are both completely gentle, effective, and non-irritating. When my skin is itchy, or rashy, they are the safest bet I know. I’m a pediatric nurse, and multiple moms whose babies have super-sensitive skin use this — that’s where I found out about Honest company. I ended up subscribing, and all of their products are great, including the hair conditioner. But the lotion is especially superb.
I was, I admit, a little hesitant at first because I’ve caught hotel maids refilling the “conditioners” and the “lotions” from the same industrial vat. What I noticed about those conditioner/lotions was that on my skin they didn’t seem to absorb at first and left my skin feeling dry, almost as if it had soap on it. As a conditioner, the conditioner/lotion made my hair greasy and dull. So the texture of this lotion — very thin, seemingly not absorbed at first — caused concern at first. But the lotion does absorb, albeit a bit slowly, and absorbs completely and well. It works beautifully, flawlessly, and it works as well on my face as any high end dedicated face product. I was stunned and impressed.
I’ve come to trust Honest so much that if they broke through the hair/skin barrier and produced an actual lotion/conditioner, I think I’d buy it and try it, taking their word for it. And I bet it would work properly, too!

I love the concept but I’m not impressed with this lotion. The texture is pretty thin and lightweight, only good for normal or slightly dry skin. And the smell… ugh… it smells like chemicals for the first several minutes; IMO definitely not like roses like someone else stated. The smell does dissipate but I would never use this lotion on my face or hands because of the smell.

Others have posted the ingredients; you can see it’s good natural stuff. It has a scent but it’s very inconspicuous. You will not smell it for long. You get very good coverage with not a lot of product…it’s a thinner lotion with quite a bit of ‘slip’ so start small and add more if you need it. It dries quickly and leaves you soft, not greasy, though possibly if you have ULTRA dry skin, like scaly, this isn’t heavy duty enough. It’s a very good ‘everyday’ lotion. I have noticed that if you get wet after applying (say you wash your hands) it’s almost like it ‘re activates’ and gets a little slick. I simply rub my hands over some other part that’s dry, like my ankles or calves, and consider it bonus moisturizer. It dries again quickly. My husband likes this product quite a bit. The girly bottle doesn’t seem to bother him, but if you’re trying to put your man on more natural products (or trying to get him to use lotion at all) maybe gift it to him in a generic glass soap bottle. It’s thin enough you could do that. I have repurchased this product three or four times & will continue. PS: when the lotion gets low just flip the bottle & keep it on its top. The lotion ALL slid down to the cap end and I was able to use the whole bottle with no waste super easy.

I’ve been a subscriber to The Honest Company for a year now, and really enoy many of their products, this one is no execption – here’s why:
I live in Southern California and this translates to dry-dry-dry skin on my body. I can’t use this lotion for my body by itself, but out of the shower I’ll use The Honest Co’s body oil, then lock it in with this lotion or another balm I enjoy from another natural company.
The thing I like most about this lotion is how it works on my face. My facial skin is dry some days, and oily others – but one thing it is 24/7 is sensitive. For months I’ll have clear skin, then my late 30’s female hormones will kick into overdrive and whammo….blemishes. This lotion gives me moisture without greasiness, and moreso a sort of soft, matte-like finish, which I love with or without makeup.
And it plays nicely with my sensitive skin! No redness, no itchiness, and no clogged up pores. There is nearly no scent, maybe just a slight warm scent but it in no way irritates the skin on my face. Probably the bonus is that you get a decent sized bottle. So if you’re primarily using it on your face, like I am, you won’t run out quickly.

I like a lot of Honest Company products & this is no exception. A little goes a long way and it’s fairly unscented (some reviews have mentioned a faint rose scent but it’s very faint). It’s a thinner lotion (try the Healing Balm for really dry spots) so don’t expect deep hydration. But it’s nice as an everyday lotion.
I have used this on my face as well. It’s not my HG for face but it works well & hasn’t broken me out. It does dry quickly on my face which can feel a little weird but it doesn’t mess up my makeup application
Edit: I’m raising my review from 4 stars to 5. I use this after every shower. I add a bit of healing balm or coconut oil to it when I need extra moisture on dry areas (like feet). I absolutely love this.
