This could have been a blind buy for me based on the beautiful bottle and the name – I have had a soft spot for this bottle since White Patchouli. Imagining a meaty, lush, tropical scent based on some dry “dune” aroma, I was ready to love it there and then. Alas, this perfume does not develop on me. It is like I have to check the humidity index to wear it so that it just smells, just a bit.
On a normal day, in a warm and humid climate, all I get is something both lush and balmy, resembling a tropical opening. On other days I get something waxy without florals. Then poof. I am given what I think are some dry “soleil” notes. But they smell too industrial to my nose, and they hiss. I find it too metallic but without being avantgarde, creative or exciting.
I have given up on Orchid Soleil though I was ready to love it. Hopefully I can enjoy smelling it on others.

WOW!,was my first thought…this is unique.I fell in love with this perfume and will keep on loving it.I do understand that some people will not like this scent but for me… pure heaven.There is no perfume in the world that compares to this one.And the bottle looks awesome in my bathroom….Tom Ford perfumes are the bomb.Expensive but worth every eurocent…

Wet out of the bottle it’s pure Hawaii, like stepping off the plane. I recoiled (happily). On skin it fades to an indole white flower but that passes and it ends as an orchid/tuberose scent with creamy under notes. It’s lovely and wearable but nothing new. I have several other white floral samples, mostly tuberose, that smell this good and are almost exactly the same. Still, it’s a nice treatment and the bottle is very pretty!

Orchid Soleil is one of the sweetest fragrances I own and I do have a few gourmands in my collection. I do understand that this Tom Ford EDP is quite controversial because it has a number of unexpected notes that go beyond the usual vanilla-caramel in many gourmands. Personally I do like how Orchid Soleil settles into a soft envelope of creaminess on my skin, although it starts with a blast of white flowers, especially magnolia and lily, accompanied by a peppery bitter orange. But the initial phase lasts only a few minutes after application for me and the creamy phase of vanilla, orchid and patchouli is what lingers on the longest throughout the day, softly laced with white flowers, among them I mainly detect lily. Lasting power is good and the sillage is moderate. To me, while I don’t consider Orchid Soleil a masterpiece like Black Orchid, I enjoy having this in my scent wardrobe of feel good scents.
So if you like sweet and creamy fragrances I recommend sampling Orchid Soleil, because if anything, its composition is out of the ordinary. The rose gold art deco inspired bottle that Tom Ford started with Black Orchid and uses for his signature scents is simply beautiful to me.

I tested this at Sephora .
I liked what I smelled from the cap of the tester and sprayed on skin.
On the cap I got a bright oily creamy gardenia .
On my skin …I did get a lot of creamy oily gardenia which was then over taken quickly by a strong lily note. A very strong almost metallic lily note.The majority of the 3-4 hours it lasted on my wrist was creamy lily .
This scent could be very polarizing I think !
It actually just annoyed me . It was full frontal lily with gardenia in the background and that very screechy creamy smell which must be the chestnut accord.
The dry down was pretty non descript. It sort of faded away gradually over time .
I don’t hate it and I don’t love it.
I can’t say it would be my no 1 choice to buy any time soon .
The bottle is very pretty – rose gold ( a very IN color right now for a jewelry … ) – very savvy of Tom Ford to pick Rose Gold for this bottle .
For a big lily kick or a white floral kick , this would be good. you must enjoy that creamy chestnut accord .This scent is full of it.

It takes an especially gnarly fragrance for me to bother with running to the sink and physically scrubbing it off. Hell, I didn’t even do it with Angel, which smelled to me like an ancient, moldy corn tortilla. No, I patiently suffered through that one for hours. But THIS one, Orchid Soleil, has crossed the line. Is this an actual fragrance? I mean, for the sake of getting a thorough testing of this scent, I kept it on until the end stages, but after that, I had to scrub it away. How did Orchid Soleil get through so many employees working on Tom Ford fragrances without at least one person going, “Wow, this smells disgusting.”??
Upon first spraying this, it truly does evoke a sense of sweltering heat. It’s kind of peppery and bitter, yet also faintly beachy at the same time? Not bad. But within less than a minute, the tuberose butts in, and everything goes downhill from there. I don’t know what exactly is causing this scent to smell like sweaty grandmas, but it totally does. I see chestnut in the bottom notes, and I have a feeling that plays a big part in it, along with the tuberose, which is a note I usually welcome, but not here. It’s almost as if the creamy, nutty, powdery notes are clashing with the opening summery vibes, leading to a concoction that evokes images of old people staying out in the sun too long, their B.O. wafting through the stuffy, humid air.
Actually, my nose is picking up almost the same traumatizing corn tortilla accord that I experienced with Angel. Well, this one is more like hot, buttered corn on the cob, which is slightly more appetizing, but regardless, I don’t want my perfume to smell remotely like corn.
I will actually be surprised if this doesn’t get discontinued within a few years.

Tom Ford can usually do no wrong in my eyes, but I know his perfumes don’t work for everyone. Black Orchid is my signature scent, because Noir is too heavy, and Velvet is too light.
I was excited to try Soleil for something a little different.
You know what? It was awful. There is no other way to describe it. There was no depth to it, and nothing that made me want to keep smelling it. I forced myself to check it every so often, and I couldn’t make out any notes. What I did smell reminded me of a mixture of expired cheap sunscreen, and a scented doll from the 80s that’s found in the bottom of the toy bin in a thrift store. This wasn’t sexy. It smells cheap, synthetic, artificial and plastic. Please, please, please, I beg you, don’t judge all TF perfumes based on this.

Orchid Soleil is a truly unique fragrance from Tom Ford. YOU MUST TRY THIS ON YOUR SKIN AND NOT TRUST JUST THE BLOTTER. Or if you have it on a blotter, give it time to settle down. At first, this doesn’t smell great. I’m going to be honest. However, once it wears off, it is simply beautiful, and sexy. The composition opens with spicy notes of pink pepper, bitter orange and cypress. Its vibrant heart blooms with red spider lily and tuberose, enveloped by the warm base of chestnut cream, vanilla, patchouli and orchid. It is a warm skin scent, but a little goes a long way (don’t go overboard with spraying!).

I just got this in the Sephora Play! October box. I really do not like this perfume. It’s quite strong, and I believe the offending note is the pink peppercorn.
The description in the Sephora box is: Top Notes:Tuberose petals, cypress, pink peppercorn. Middle Notes: Black orchid, lily accords, clove bud. Base Notes: Vanilla, chestnut cream accord, vetiver, patchouli.
I’ve had this on for about five hours, and now it’s just a faint fake vanilla scent. The pink peppercorn seemed to stay strong for about three hours. I let someone else try this too, and she didn’t like it at all, either. Big miss for Tom Ford, as far as I’m concerned.

This is easily the most revolting fragrance I’ve smelled in years. It is sweet gardenia to the point of putrefaction, with an overlay of metal shavings, semen, and dental anesthetic.
But you know? it doesn’t smell like anything else out there. It’s a gutsy blast to the past, when fragrances had the power to clear a room and didn’t shy away from animalic notes. It happens to be godawful but 1 lippie added for originality. Now to go throw up.
