You get what you pay for.
I’ve been greedily eyeing makeup brush racks for quite some time. Anything to make washing my brushes easier and quicker, because I am really bad about not doing it often.
Most of the ones I saw online start at $20 and go up from there. I happened upon this in Walmart and for the price (approx $5), I just couldn’t pass it up.
It’s well packaged and very simple to put together – only 3 pieces. I suppose you could just disassemble it after each use and store it flat, although I leave mine up. The base pieces are a lot more narrow than the top piece, which makes it unstable. You have to carefully choose which slots to use to keep it evenly balanced or it will tip and fall. The top piece is good, there are slots for 14 brushes. All 3 pieces are fairly flimsy black acrylic but the flanges on each brush slot are good quality – clear, flexible silicone which are effective at adjusting to the size of your brushes.
The idea is to insert each brush through a slot with the bristles facing downward to prevent moisture from reaching the ferrule of your brush.
It works how I expected and is much nicer than just lying my wet brushes on a towel to dry. I didn’t notice a decrease in the amount of time needed for my brushes to dry, although I had hoped for that. Unfortunately, part of one of the base supports snapped the very first time I used it. I can still use it but it exacerbated the instability issue. You’ll need to be careful with this product as it can be a bit fragile. I would hope the more expensive versions are a bit sturdier.
