I received a decent sized sample of Dior Capture Totale Dreamskin Advanced from Sephora. It is a really hydrating serum that is perfect under moisturizer and foundation, although it is great by itself. It is incredibly expensive–1 oz is $115 and from reviews it sounds like you can’t see how much you’re using and some product is wasted unless you disassemble the pump–but I’m considering purchasing it.

I never believe that there’s an actual function of primer except for adding another step to your makeup routine and spending another dollar until I found this. This really makes my skin velvety smooth and looks just amazing. Not sure on adding to foundation’s lasting power because I haven’t tried using it for longer than 4 hours. It just makes everything flawless and creates a wonderful canvas for foundation. Definitely worth every penny spent.

I resisted Dreamskin for a very long time. I was obsessed with it at launch and *almost* bought it… but just couldn’t get past spending that much on a primer. Hourglass (my previous fave) was expensive enough. Flash forward to the most recent Sephora Rouge discount period this year, a time when I customarily stock up on items that are expensive but that I know I will use. By then, we’re up to Dreamskin Advanced, and Sephora now offers a refill for a product container at 15% less than the standard packaging. I’m all about the refill size for whatever products offer it; I couldn’t care less about having the product container for the refill. And so I love this product, and plan to stock up when the next Rouge discount period rolls around. I find for myself that it really is worth the money, as it provides such a nice smooth surface for foundation application. It seems to have a faster and drier dry-down than do many other primers, so you want to get that foundation going right away after Dreamskin. It has a slight Dior-y floral scent that is not objectionable – I was an early adopter of the original Capture product line back in the mid-late 80s, so the scent is kind of nostalgic. Product layering that is really working for me right now, is using Biafine as my daily moisturizer, following with Perricone Photo Plasma, then Dreamskin. Other moisturizers in my collection are okay too, but the Biafine seems to leave a more finished surface for the Dreamskin. Top with EL Double Wear or Revlon Colorstay and you are good to go all day.
