   I bought this strictly for the colour – black/brown – to replace my discontinued Chanel. If Nars had a black/brown I would have gotten that since that performs remarkably well. I use this to tightline and it stays put through the day. On the few occasions I used it to line my lid it disappeared. Ok for now I guess.

   I have deep set blue eyes and I LOVE the look of lining my waterline … until it smudges.
   So I have been on a mission to find an eyeliner that WILL NOT SMUDGE. EVER.
   Unfortunately, this one smudges on me …

   I tried it on in the store. The color payoff is AMAZING. It applies like butter. Come on, it’s Pat McGrath, I would hope that having taken so long to come out with her own line every product would be killer.
   It lasted quite a while, and I was so hopeful, but I did ultimately end up with the dark circles of eyeliner under my eye.. so not a good look for this Woman of a Certain Age.
   However .. I didn’t thoroughly remove it out of curiosity, and woke up the next morning with a very cool black waterline, and if I was in my twenties, and it was a weekend, I would have rolled with that kind of look, but it continued to smudge, so I said goodbye to the whole thing. If it was a drugstore brand, I might roll with it in a different shade that would not be a disaster if it ended up a little smudged (bronze?) but .. no, not for this price.

   Initially I bought two of these, one in the color Black Coffee, a brown/black, and Blitz Brown, a dark metallic brown. I liked them so much that I bought two more colors: Shade, a charcoal grey/brown, and Xtreme Black. These pencils stay all day when I tightline with them. On the waterline they are a bit less reliable, and by the end of the day I can get a little bit of crumbling or smudging along the lower lashline. However, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a Q-Tip.

   PROS:

   1) Comes in several colors in addition to an intense black.

   2) When I tightline with these, the liner stays all day. On the waterline (bottom lid), it doesn’t last quite as long but that might be because I wear contacts and my eyes water more than the average person’s.

   3) The matte shades do not blur my vision by migrating onto my contact lenses during the day. This is a problem I’ve had with Trish McEvoy’s gel pencil. (Blitz Brown, because it is metallic with specks of glitter, is not as good for my waterline as the matte colors.)

   4) I like the packaging. The pencil comes with a sharpener, and the box has two compartments, one for the pencil and one for the sharpener. When I take this liner on a trip, I take the box. This makes it easier to find and keeps the sharpener close by.

   CONS:

   1) The line along the lower lashline can break up a bit or smudge by the end of the day. However, I apply the pencil in the morning and this doesn’t happen for several hours. If you don’t have watery eyes and you’re not a contact lens wearer, the liner might last longer on you. (The tightlining stays intact beautifully for me.)

   2) It’s not cheap. $25 per pencil.

   3) The sharpener doesn’t have a lid to keep the shavings from spilling out, but at least they give you one each time you buy a pencil. Some brands don’t provide a sharpener at all.

   MY VERDICT:

   Overall, this is a great eyeliner. I prefer the mattes to the shimmers. Because I wear contact lenses, finding a good eye pencil is not an easy task for me. MAC Liquidlast is the only truly waterproof eyeliner I’ve found (Milani Infinite Liquid is a dupe). Inglot’s gel liner in 77 Black is the only other I trusted for tightlining until I found this pencil from Pat McGrath. In spite of the high price, I will keep coming back for more Black Coffee (my favorite shade).

   It sadly transferred and smudged all over my eyelids and underneath them. This wasn’t even on my waterline, just on my lids. It was not long lasting unfortunately. Will have to return this.

   Pros: Very soft, no tugging on the eye. Very pigmented.

   Cons: Does not stay put on my waterline. It definately transfers to the lower waterline and migrates to the inner corner.

   I purchased this to use in my waterline, but my cheap Essence liners do a much better job staying put in my waterline. The Pat Mcgrath does stay put on the upper and lower lid but it is hard to get a detailed line due to the softness.

   At $25 each, I won’t return but I also won’t repurchase.

   This eyepencil is let’s say, a holy grail, it’s all what the name suggest: it don’t budge at all once you draw the line it stays there from morning to night, it glides like magic and it’s a very true black, amazing pigmentation. I tried it on my upperlid and it stayed there forever, even when I slightly touch it after it set it didn’t transfer at all. I didn’t try my waterline. It’s removed easily with any facial wash or makeup remover. An excellent product ! It comes in a beautiful package with a sharpener.
