I’m being very generous with the extra lippy here, I was going to give it a one lippy but gave it another due to overall the somewhat misguided generous formula as many skin care cleansers are completely void of anything beneficial.
Skinn by Dimitri James is a line that is most usually often only seen and available to be purchased online or through its most visible platform, HSN, TVSN (Australia & New Zealand) and QVC.
Dimitri James is a well known famous celebrity make-up artist and over the years has also worked with the top beauty brands in the industry Estee Lauder, Revlon, Chanel, Lancome to name a few. He was worked with them as a formulator and product developer and became disappointed with the way these brands did business, spending everything on packaging and price, and nothing in the formula. Hey Presto! Skinn was born!
As much as Dimitri James was one of the few next to Paula Begoun and others to champion, science based, research proven skin care products, his entire line is somewhat misguided, completely over complicated and far too many products in the line in general, many feature repeated formulas with different names, many contain overwhelming fragrance from essential oils and many contain far too much colour dye for my liking.
As much as almost all the formulas are incredibly generous and feature long ingredient listings on almost each and every product, they are also generously filled with the nasties he was trying to exclude in the first place! What I like about Skinn is that he avoids the inclusion of water as much as possible, and prefers to a base of aloe vera or grape juice for most of his skin care serums and moisturisers. This way each and every formulas is generously packed and concentrated with actives, ready to absorb.
In the case of this AM cleanser, it is heavily loaded with lavender, tea tree oil and peppermint. Some people may like this combination but I find this cleanser far too overwhelming in fragrance, think of your daily toothpaste x 10! That is the intensity of this cleanser as well as his famous DermaAppeal (review to come on that soon). The cleansing agents/surfactants in this formula are of the mild variety, they will not strip your skin, although dry skins may find this still slightly too powerful for them, it is a clarifying wash in that it includes salicylic acid as well as other exfoliating acids for a nice exfoliating am wash.
Instructions are to use this in the morning only, with tepid warm water and to splash generously. He claims this also doubles as a mask, to leave it on for a full minute whilst cleansing, and even a minute more to even double more as a mask! I’m sorry but if you follow these instructions you will end up with harshly, dry stripped skin. No one needs to leave cleansing agents, no matter how gentle, on this skin for more than a minute. Combined with the irritating essential oils of lavender, tea tree and peppermint this is simply overkill.
This is the kind of cleanser you would find a beauty therapist or aesthetician add to your footbath water for your weekly pedicure at your local salon, beauty parlour or Spa. I could understand if this cleanser was used for that purpose but it isn’t! It’s a facial cleanser, far too harsh for me. Others may find this to be no problem for them, go ahead but I caution those with normal to sensitive dry skins that this may simply be too much for them, it is for me. If Dimitri had simply omitted the irritating and overwhelming amount of essential oils in this formula, it would have been a wonderful cleanse I definitely would have continued to use and recommend to others, sadly it doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon. Also just be aware that there is so much actives in the skinn line, compared to other skin care brand, an overabundance I would say actually, yet with all of this, I was astonished to find out that there is not one, not one! SPF + Sun protecting product from this line, Dimitri makes no mention of sun protection in any of his well intentioned skin care tips and tricks. Unbelievable! The man lives in Palm Springs California for gods sake!!! This cleanser smells, looks (packaging is awful) and feels like cheap discounted body wash from your local drugstore bargain bin, I do not recommend this cleanser! Your way better off with gentle options from Neutrogena, Olay, Dove, Alpha Hydrox etc
Here is the ingredient listing as listed on their website http://www.skinn.com

I alternate this with the pm cleanser, but only wash once a day, because washing more than that has always been too drying for my face. I love this. My skin looks fantastic now that I’m using both cleansers along with the softening essence. I’ve tried and wasted so many cleansers, and I’m happy to finally find what my skin wants. A little goes a long way with this, and I’m saving money on make up, because my skin looks the way I want it to as-is.

This and the night wash were the first things I ever purchased from Skinn Cosmetics and I loved it and have used ever since only running out once and that has now been going on over 2 years. It does clean your face good and make it feel so good. Love it.

This is the perfect companion to the Olive Enzyme PM cleaner. I love this for a fresh face in the morning and it preps my skin for my morning creams. Dimitris cleaners are the best and very reasonably priced!

He boasted natural ingredients on TV, but really missed the mark with his entire line. Over fragranced and saw zero difference in my skin. If he truly researched everything out there, he wouldn’t add some of the irritants he does in his product. One product in particular he said had concentrated “squaline” like a miracle for wrinkles. If this was the case then all companies would use it. Disappointed because it was super overhyped. Returned everything. This cleanser was below average.

This cleanser is fantastic.
Different in texture to the night time cleanser (I adore the PM cleanser). This is a gel and the PM cleanser is a cream.
Both smell wonderful! But all smells aside, does it perform?
Yes, this cleanser is fabulous also!gives the face a good deep clean without stripping the skin at all.
I have it in a pump which I love.

Wow. I am so impressed with Skinn Cosmetics overall. All the wonderful products work so well and are non-irritating to my skin. What’s more is that Dimitri James, the founder, owner, chemist behind Skinn Cosmetics doesn’t lie or stretch the truth when it comes to how his skincare and cosmetics perform. Also, his hygennic packaging albeit plain and not so flashy, (which is fine by me) helps to keep costs down! Imagine, great products, moderate to low prices and the products actually work the way they are claimed to! What’s not to like?
This is the best foaming facial cleanser I’ve ever used. I’ve used a ton of products from D/S (Neutrogena) to high end (Chantecaille) and this is hands down AMAZING! I love it in the morning it wakes my skin up! My skin feels clean but not dry or irritated. The smell is medicinal — more eucalyptus than anything. It does not burn or feel cool, just clean! I wish Mr James would make a body cleanser like this as it’s so refreshing. I really love it. Note: this foaming cleanser is not to remove makeup. Skinn Cosmetics Rich Olive & Enzyme Balm cleanser is for removing makeup. There are two cleansers this one to use in the morning and the other to use in the evening. I like this one better and always finish my cleansing with this Wish it came in a bigger size! Dimitri James has a winner in this one. All bow to the west for his genius.

This cleanser is right up there with my other fav, Cetaphil.
It has a wonderful fresh lemon smell and does a wonderful job cleaning my oily skin in the morning and and night. I was very skeptical buying from TVSN, but I am glad I did. I got the day and night cleansers, but this can be used both day and night and removes all traces of make up, dirt and oil from my skin. Love it!

This has become my favourite cleanser to use in the mornings. It has a thick gel consistency which lathers, but it doesn’t strip my skin and doesn’t make it feel dry afterwards. It’s great to be able to purchase a cleanser which lathers/foams, but doesn’t contain SLS or any other sulfates. The fragrance is fresh and citrusy, and is just a great wake up for the skin and the senses. Another great thing about this cleanser is that it has a gentle exfoliation (from salicylic acid), which leaves the skin feeling so smooth and ready to absorb serums and moisturisers much better. My pores are cleaner and the texture of my skin is so much better after using this cleanser – love it!

I bought this cleanser at TSC in Canada as part of a showstopper. The kit came with this AM cleanser, the PM cleanser, the wrinkle soak mask, and dermapeel treatment all for $50 canadian including taxes. I also got the kit on auto delivery every 2 months. Which in my mind quite frankly is a steal for such high quality products.
In this kit the AM Sulphate Free Rapid Exfoliating Cleanser came in a double 8 ounce size with a pump dispenser. The cleanser is a clear, gel like wash. I use 2 to 4 pumps in the morning with my clarisonic for 90 seconds on my face and neck.
The smell is very refreshing like tea tree. It works very well with the clarisonic. Cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean and decongested. Over the month that I have used this line I see a great improvement in the clarity of my skin, no new breakouts, my skin feels like it can breathe, and is not dry or irritated at all.
My skin type is oily in areas and acne prone. I have spent probably thousands of dollars and many years in skin care over the years to get my skin to look just healthy. It could be that I am growing out of my acne but I know these products certainly have helped my skin.
Yes you do have to buy the stuff on tv or via his website. But the products and a good value for your money. They do work. He keeps water, sulphates, and parabens out of his products. I think I am hooked. I have yet to try any other products from the line but will be shortly.
