First, let me state my opinion that it’s hard to get a lip scrub wrong. We all know that you put sugar in oil or some other base, and you have a basic lip scrub. It’s all in getting the right oil, the right proportion of sugar to oil, the right size sugar granules, etc. Paula’s Choice used to have a lip scrub that was my favorite, but it’s now discontinued.
As for ColourPop’s Lippie Scrub, I bought it in Razzle Dazzle. It is a raspberry flavored, scented, and colored scrub, and that is its most outstanding quality. (Two other color/flavors are available, Coco Loco, which is coconut, and By the Bushel, which is strawberry.) Obviously, one does not want to eat the scrub, but if some gets ingested, it tastes pleasant. I find using the scrub to be a fun experience.
The base is advertised as conditioning with “shea butter, cupuacu butter, sweet almond oil, and jojoba oil.” Those are in the base, but the second ingredient (after sugar) is petroleum, meaning the scrub feels like lots of sugar mixed a touch of Vaseline and a drop of oil. That’s fine with me because it keeps the scrub nice, thick, and hydrating, but others may not like the texture of the scrub or the inclusion of petroleum in what they may think is a natural product (I mean, technically, petroleum is natural because it’s from oil, which comes from the earth, but you know what I mean).
Finally, the packaging: I have to comment on how impressed I was the little pot the scrub came in. Yes, it’s just a frosted plastic pot with a white plastic lid, but it somehow looked elegant, especially with a little plastic insert underneath the lid to keep product from leaking out. However, I was disappointed at the excessive packaging of putting the jar in a plastic box.
