Getting lip liner right, for a brand, is largely about nailing the texture. Too firm and it won’t lay down enough pigment and will be drying to the lips. Too soft and it will smudge all over and defeat its purpose. Colourpop’s lip liners hit the balance for the most part, although I think there is some formula variability between colors— I’ve found that their brighter, more pigmented colors tend to be firmer, drier, and capable of making a sharper line, and the nudes tend to be softer, more emollient and smudgier. Most colors smudge just enough to blend out a little bit, so that they can be worn alone or with lipstick or balm. (Gloss makes them spread.) The colors I’ve tried have a moderate wear time, and for me they’ll last through drinks but not meals.
I find Lippie Pencils to be a great value relative to other lip liners on the market. Prior to Colourpop’s formation, I used primarily Makeup Forever lip liners, and I think Colourpop’s are almost as good at about ⅓ of the price. (CP: 1g for $6; MUFE: 1.2g for $20). Lippie Pencils do reveal their budget nature, however, if you keep them around for more than a year or so. At that point the quality slides downhill and the product starts to look crayon-like after application, losing any emollient properties and gathering in lip lines. So, the makeup hoarders among us [::waves::] just have to use them up relatively promptly.
The Lippie Pencil color selection is curious. Presently there are a handful of nudes, lots of browns, and multiple shades of purple and blue(?!). But I think there’s a big blind spot when it comes to corals, peach shades, and mid-tone pinks. It’s odd because Colourpop’s shade range is so vast when it comes to those shades; I can’t be the only one looking for pencils to match my CP lipsticks. And as with many Colourpop lip products, the colors frequently don’t align with what’s pictured on the website, so it’s best to try to find swatches elsewhere.
Here are some notes on colors I’ve tried specifically (for reference, I have moderately pigmented lips and light-medium skin that leans yellow/warm):
* Bumble- warm rose, a very deep pink really. Good all-purpose liner with berry-toned lipsticks. Has a matching ultra matte liquid lip color but I think you get a better texture by just wearing the liner on its own and blending it out, then topping with balm. This shade has the ideal texture— not too soft, not too hard, just-right smudgeable with good staying power.
* Brink- terracotta rose, pulls a little brown on me. Good everyday color, perhaps a MLBB shade for medium skin tones. Has a matching matte Lippie Stix and it’s my favorite combo in the Colourpop lip canon. A bit soft.
* Frenchie- bright warm red, hint of pink. Matches perfectly with CP’s Flower Szn lipstick. Formula is too firm/dry so it drags and can’t be blended out; but on the upside, it sharpens to a point and stays exactly where you put it.
* Another Round- “rosey nude”, peach-leaning. A little too light for me but could be a good shade for overlining if your lips are lightly pigmented. I find it to be the softest/smudgiest of all the colors I’ve tried.
* Heart On- bright cool-toned magenta. I bought it to wear with NARS “Funny Face” and MAC “Flat Out Fabulous” lipsticks, and it was a good match for both. Maintained its quality for almost two years before developing a crayon-like finish.
* Good & Plenty- “deep rose”. It’s far darker, cooler, and more purple-toned than I expected. Does not resemble the photos on CP’s website at all and makes me look goth. But the quality is great.
* Little One- CP says “dusty nude”, I say ghastly greige. Another shade that doesn’t match its online pics. The texture is very nice though, so I keep it around for wearing underneath bright colors when I want to tone them down.

I am so in love with Colourpop Lippie Pencils! They are absolutely amazing! So creamy, easy to apply, long lasting and just gorgeous! They are almost identical to Kylie Cosmetics Lip Liners, only for a small fraction of the price. You can wear them under lipstick or lipgloss or just by themselves. They aren’t drying and are super comfortable on the lips. It blows my mind that these are only $5.
I have these in LBB, Bossy, Lumiere, Contempo and Oh Snap! and I love every single one:
– LBB is my absolute favorite of the bunch. It is a cool-toned, plummy wine that is absolutely gorgeous! A little goes a long way with application as it is very pigmented. I will be so sad if they ever discontinue this color.
– Bossy is a cool-toned bright red that some say, is a true red. Personally, I think it’s more of a pinky red that pulls very pink on my cool-toned skin. It is still beautiful and a lot of people seem to love it.
-Lumiere is a purple mauve that seems to be universally beautiful on all skintones. I reach for this one quite often, since it is muted enough to wear in the daytime, as well as night.
-Contempo is another favorite of mine. It is a medium mauvey pink that leans more on the cool to neutral side. It looks amazing on my pale, cool skin and I love wearing it under lipgloss, but it looks even more amazing if you wear it with the Contempo Lippie Stix. It is so versatile, which is why I love it so much.
-Oh Snap! is a true nude, which looks slightly on the pink side until I apply it on my lips. It seems to pull more brown against my super pale, cool-toned skin. It is still beautiful and I like to pair it with a pink lipstick or gloss to bring out the nude in it.
Colourpop seriously knocked it out of the park with these pencils. They are simply amazing and I highly recommend them to anyone. I wish they would add more cool toned pinky nudes to their color selection. Other than that, they are absolute perfection!

Colourpop lippie pencils are a worthwhile, low-cost way to expand your makeup collection and try new lip colors. Colourpop’s Lippie Pencil in Taurus is my all time favorite lip liner. It’s a medium-dark brown with warm terra-cotta hues that compliment my tan complexion well and is easily paired with any nude lipstick.

The Lippie Pencils from ColourPop are creamy and very pigmented. They last fairly well with regular lipsticks as well. Because a lot of CP’s Lippie Stix and Ultra Satin/Matte Lipsticks have coordinating pencils the shade range is quite extensive, so it is easy to find a color that works for whatever lipstick you’re trying to pair it with. I also like that the pencils are white with the liner color as the base, which makes them super easy to find since most of my lipliner pencils that I own are black. I think a lot of CP stuff is gimmicky and that you don’t get a lot of product for the money, but I do find the Lippie Pencils to be worth it and I would consider purchasing more.

Brink was part of my first purchase from ColourPop, got it in a set with a primer and the matching lipliner, for sale for $10 USD with the $5 USD off (so it cancelled the shipping). If I didn’t like them, at least I didn’t pay full price. I was more interested on the lippie stix but it was nice to try out more thing from this line. It was pigmented and opaque, very soft, so it applied smoothly and has a long staying power. If all the lipliners are like this, they are a good purchase.

The lipliner just doesn’t do what a lipliner ought to do – Stay put!
It’s too creamy, too slippery, and goes all over the place. However, this would be good if you used it as a lipstick all over the lips, in place of any other lip colour. However, I do not find it any more concise than using the lippie stix…

These ColourPop lip liners are absolutely amazing. They’re my favourite lip liner that I’ve tried so far. My favourite shade is Aquarius, which I have repurchased multiple times. The longevity is decent. There is a relatively large range of shades, and most of them pair very nicely with ColourPop’s other lip products. My only issue with these lip liners is how difficult they are to sharpen, as they break VERY easily. They are extremely soft, so you have to be very careful.

– lasts quite a while on the lips, especially if you have a ColourPop Ultra Matte or Ultra Satin lip product layered on top of the lip liner

These are my favorite lip liners, I have 3 right now. I like them better than NYX slim lip pencils. They’re smooth and pigmented and I find that on me, they stop feathering. They also work well on their own as a lipstick. They are pretty smooth and siliconey so someone who is extremely prone to feathering might need a drier formula.
As a side note, you need to sharpen these, they don’t twist up.

I have lumiere and it’s a beautiful mid-tone pink with a purple undertone and it’s an almost exact color dupe for NARS Anna. I would say this accompanies Anna perfectly because it intensifies the color. These are less drying than the Kylie lip liners which is good for the comfort but they tend to slip and slide easily because of their creaminess. Weird thing is I feel that the Kylie glosses apply better on these lip liners; they don’t dissolve unlike when I apply them on the Kylie lip liners. The color payoff is pretty good but both the Kylie lip liners and these have the same problem of becoming messy once you sharpen them. The product starts to slide out from the pencil. Aside from pitch and Bull chic there don’t seem to be any color dupes for the other Kylie lip liners so I would say purchase the Kylie ones if you want them to match.

I personally found this formula too be very smudgy and it feathered on almost every application.
I buy lip liners to keep my lipstick cleanly outlined and in place… So a messy lip liner is obviously a no-go.
