This is one of the few La Mer products (apart from lip balm, hand cream & revitalizing mask) that’s left a lasting impression on me. I got several of the tiny 0.1 fl oz (3ml) tubes floating around on e-bay and used on one side of my face only – the right side. Within 1 week that side was glowing and looked amazing, the left side which I was using Argan oil on looked pretty dull in comparison. It’s difficult to describe but it somehow transformed my skin into something else altogether! The contrast between the two sides of my face was highly visible when looking in the mirror.
Nope it did not control my oily areas, mostly t-zone in the slightest and I definitely feel it’s way way waay overpriced when estimating the ingredients/packaging cost vs retail price, but something in has an affinity with my skin and brings out the best in it. I’ve had the (mis)fortune of using the creme, also the original – which I really liked, and reformulated version of the gel-creme – which I didn’t like, and none delivered the glow that this does no matter how good they were as actual moisturizers. And in terms of moisture I’ve had to use my Hada Labo Hyaluronic Lotion underneath this as the La Mer lotion on its own isn’t moisturizing enough for my oily-dehydrated skin type. If you’re just oily and no dehydration this will go down a treat as there’s absolutely no tackiness or residue when you apply this, it literally vanishes into your skin within seconds. Contains the typical La Mer fragrance and comes in a pump dispenser which is good for protecting the ingredients. Hoping this drops in price so I can purchase the full size as my samples have sadly now finished…I won’t hold my breath though, I’ve witnessed their prices almost double in the last decade since I started purchasing their products.

I love constantly trying out new stuff – usually sample sizes via e-bay, also plenty courtesy of a friend who works at Sephora)

It is the replacement of the Oil Absorbing Lotion from La Mer.
Let me point out the biggest difference from the previous product. The first ingredient is water, while the original lotion did not contain water, only seaweed extract (Algae), which is the part of the “Miracle Broth”. Unfortunately it is impossible to know whether the amount of the Broth is the same as in the original formula and then it contains much less oil (emollients) or the concentration of the Broth is the same (or just above) the next ingredient (Squalane). I believe that this lotion contains between 5-10% Squalane which might mean that the concentration of the Broth is just as low.
Does it then worth the same price as the other moisturizers in the line that contain the Broth in a much higher concentration?!
Otherwise, this lotion is basically formulated on the same base emollients and emulsifiers as the previous version. Although I believe that the new version contains lower percentage of emollient oils than the previous one. Hence the much lighter feel on application.
It contains excellent actives and cell-communicating ingredients. It seems that this product has much more actives than the Soft Lotion. Maybe to compensate for the lower concentration of the Broth?
It has oil absorbing powders in higher concentrations that give a matte finish to the product.
What I find lacking in this formula is the choice of the emollients. It is based basically on Squalane and two synthetic esters. While Squalane is an excellent moisturizer, it is comedogenic. Not the greatest choice for acne-prone skin! The two other synthetic esters are very fine in this respect but they leave a way too shiny and tacky feel on the skin.
While the feel is very light and perceptively moisturizing, I believe that the choice of other emollients would have resulted in a more elegant product.
I think this product can be a nice choice in humid, warm climate for those who need a matter finish that lasts at least for some hours. (But there are plenty of moisturizers you can choose from that deliver the same benefits and cost the tenth of the price!)
