This is a creamy product that will function to give “day old” weight hair so that you can style more easily & not have overly soft & floaty hair. It is good for people with (even very) fine hair, I don’t know that it would do much for thicker hair. It will not increase natural oiliness, so you don’t need to shampoo more often than you normally would. You don’t need a lot & it can be used mainly near-ish the root or down the length of the hair. It is very inexpensive ($6 at Sally).
One thing: you do NEED to use a clarifying shampoo if you use this product. My hair started to look exceptionally dry & frizzy after a few weeks of using this product…although I didn’t realize that was the issue at the time. I used a strong clarifier & I was back to “normal”.
Sallys also sells the retro vinyl working paste, which I consider superior to this product.

I have been on the hunt for a new texturizer to replace my previous one, which has sadly been discontinued. Saw this in Sally’s and the price was right, so I thought I’d give it a try. I have short, fine, layered hair with some wave to it, and I need something to calm the frizzies I normally get after blow drying. At first try, this product made me nervous because it is such a thick, white cream; and I thought for sure it would weigh my hair down and make it look like I dipped it in a french fry vat. Surprisingly, it disappeared into my (dry) hair and gave me the piecey definition I was hoping for. (The trick is to use just a little.) Today I wanted to try it on damp hair, and again, the thick cream that spread out all over my hands made me nervous. Especially since after I rubbed it into my damp hair, there was still a lot left on my hands, and it was hard to remove with water alone! When I started to blow dry, I noticed it seemed to take forever for a section to become dry! That would be my biggest “con” regarding this product: that it increases blowdrying time. But once I finally got the dampness out of my head, my hair actually looked pretty good! I didn’t need to follow up with a texturizer to smooth the frizzies after blowdrying like I normally do, and it seemed to add extra oomph to my waves and make them look like springy curls. It did not make my hair limp or flat, but it did make it look like it was, well, “slept-in,” like the tube says. I think I really LIKE this stuff! I can use it on wet or dry hair and still get good results. I don’t really notice a disgusting smell, but it doesn’t smell pretty, either. (It’s just so-so.) Overall, I would say this product does exactly what it says on the tube, and that is a first for me. I can’t tell you how many products I’ve used in the past 35 yrs. or so that promise this and promise that, and then they do the opposite- or nothing at all. This one delivers as promised, so 5 lippies from me!

wow! this is great stuff for my short, fine hair! i use more than most people probably do, and it really gives hold. it doesn’t make my hair feel nice, it feels dirty and slept-in, but it looks awesome. that seems to be the secret for pixie cuts – “if it feels good, it probably look limp and bad”.
this is like a sculpting lotion for short hair. a lot of people are complaining of the scent – mine had no smell at all. i find that has happened with quite a few BTZ products i’ve bought and repurchased. one will have a very strong smell, and the nothing at all when i buy another.
i will repurchase this for as long as i have short hair. though a little goes a long way.

I´m really surprised about this product. It´s the first Beyond the Zone prodcut I´ve used, but I was at Sally and oh well, you know the rest. If I see a new product I´ve got to buy it. I don´t regret it at all! I have 3a long hair and I was never able to manage a pomade without looking greasy and weighed down. As you know, curly hair tends to be dry and mine is not an exception, so I´m always looking for something to enhance the curls and avoid the frizzy hair. This may be it. This is not as thick as other pomades and the smell is ok. I use a dime size amount on wet hair, spread it and scrunch it and I get bouncy curls without all the frizz,.My big complaint: the package. What were they thinking when they designed the tube? I mean it´s practical but it looks so cheap and childish and horrible. I´m embarassed to show it in public! haha. But it works and it´s well priced if you consider the amount of product you´re getting. Also, have you ever read the ingredient list? I thought this was just a bunch of ´cones. But no. It has protein, and panthenol, and nourishing oils in it. So, despite the ´cones, it´s not that bad for your hair. Great buy!

Every time I use this I have a good hair day. I’ve used it on wet hair, before blow drying for texture, I’ve used it to rough up dry wavy hair for a messy bed head look… no matter how I use it, it WORKS. I don’t know if that’s the case for every hair type, but for mine this is a HG product. I’m so glad I discovered it. My hair is to my bra strap, natural dark blond, thin but thick ( lots of thin hair), it’s prone to getting greasy from most styling products even if I use only very little, refuses to hold a curl, but is not stick straight ( it will hold curls the form by wet setting though)… so yeah, this stuff works on my hair type like a dream. Constructive criticism: The packaging is tacky, the name is also sorta tacky (however fitting because that’s how you feel when you have a good hair day, right? :)The smell isn’t awful, but it’s not wonderful either. Some of the Beyond the Zone products smell really good, this one not so much.
that’s all folks.

This is the only pomade-type product I’ve tried that doesn’t make my longer, thick hair look all greased up. I decided to take a chance and use it on my hair while dry, and was pleasantly surprised how it didn’t goo or weigh down my hair. I’d agree that the scent is slightly bizarre and cheap stripper-esque, but if you use a minor amount, the scent seems to go away pretty quickly.
Overall, I’d still recommend it. Usually pomades (or pomade-like products) only seem to treat short hair nicely, but this one exceeds expectations if you’re into longer hair with layers and texture. I give it 4 out of 5 lippies because, while it’s a good product in the tube, the scent and the packaging are a slight turn-off for me. Reminds me of being in a middle school girls’ bathroom.

Im not positive this is the same thing. Super Sexy texturize and distort for sexy, wavy, messy hair wave spray. thats what it says. well its fabulous. does exactly what is says. keep scrunching it after applying when slightly damp. i cannot describe the results better than the title. very sexy. im not sure what the whole HG thing is but this might be it for me! =D

This is the ticket to controlling my fine wavy hair on the days I want to go curly/wavy. It is a thick creme, so go easy on the amount. A little bit scrunched into towel-dried hair, then blown dry with a diffuser leaves me with full, soft, wavy hair. Allowing it to air dry results in a more beach-y look. Great stuff.

I’ve used this a few times and I like the texture it gives my long, fine, wavy hair. It’s a combo of wax or pomade and a gel that comes out a cream. I only use a bit of it when my hair is wet (too afraid to try it on dry hair) then scrunch. It really forms the wave. I don’t use a hair dryer so couldn’t tell how that would affect it. I also only wash every other day and it doesn’t make it greasy so long as I’m careful with the amount. I usually don’t have too many problems with scents so long as it isn’t floral, but this really smells chemical bad. Not a hint of grape for me. So one lippie off for that. Smell doesn’t linger though.
