   If you own and love the Shu Uemura lash curler, you will love this one too as it’s very similar, if not identical in performance. The only difference being the Sephora curler has a bigger opening than the Shu Uemura one. I recently just got this and the Tweezerman Pro lash curler and I honestly prefer the Sephora curler just a bit more. This is slightly flatter in curvature than the Tweezerman curler. The difference is slight when looking at them side by side but when I put them against my eyes, I can definitely see the Sephora one being just slightly flatter in curvature. I have almond shaped (but not really deep set) eyes and this curler tends to fit my eye shape just a tad better than the Tweezerman which I think suits those with deep set almond eyes more. This gets all the lashes, even the baby lashes in the corners all in one go. I can even get it very close to the base of my lashes without pinching and it gives me a dramatic, fanned out curl that last all day. The curl is very good in fact that sometimes I forgo mascara altogether during the day.

   The one I got is a matte black and made with a lightweight steel frame. It comes with two refill pads and I paid $19 plus tax at Sephora.

   I own a LOT of different eyelash curlers: Shu, Chanel, Trish McEvoy, Tarte, and Kevyn Aucoin. The lashes on my right eye have a bit of natural lift and curl, whereas those on my left eye are very straight. What ends up happening is that after using the above curlers, I can almost make it seem like my lashes on both eyes are the same, but as the day goes on, the left eye’s lashes tend to straighten out and my eyes start looking like they aren’t the same size. Today I used my new Utowa eyelash curler and it did a much better job on my left eye than any of the above curlers, but more importantly, now I’m ready to call it a night and remove my makeup and my lashes are still curled! My eyes look even and balanced!
   Bye bye other brands…Utowa is now my favorite curler!

   It’s perfect.It makes my eyelashes longer and look more thick and thin it’s amazing.I recommend this 🙂

   wow – where has this been all my life? Very expensive from Mecca Cosmetica in Auckland but worth it. The curl lasts 12 hours and my lashes are the straightest ever. I am using with Shiseido’s mascara base though and that probably helps.

   I own the Utowa, Shu Uemura and the Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler.
   though all 3 to me were excellent and I love all 3 to death, I actually love my Utowa curler the most.
   I know a lot of people say that Utowa is the same a Shu Uemura, just more expensive, to me it feels completely different.
   My Shu Uemura has pinched my eyelids on several occasion, but my Utowa, never once.
   The Shu Uemura anf the Utowa, if you actually take their labelling off, they do look quiet similar, but I think the Shu Uemura is slightly more flatter then the Utowa.
   I’ve since lost my Shu Uemura (well not really, some cheap a$$ swapped my Shu Uemura with their cheap Missha curler, which turned out to be quiet good actually!), I will be looking at repurchasing my Shu Uemura later on, but in the meantime I dont miss it one bit because of my Utowa curler.

   Utowa was apparently started up by Shu Uemura’s son so I was hoping that this would be an improvement on the Shu curler but as the previous reviewer mentioned, it is more or less similar to the Shu. It doesn’t curl the inner and outer corners of my lashes, has a tendency to pinch my lids, and it also crimps my lashes.

   This curler is exactly like the Shu one, which was my problem.
   I used it only once but the quality seems great.
   However, I’m Asian and need a curler that’s wider to fit the curvature of my eye and this one was too narrow. I was hoping the curve of this curler would be flatter than the Shu but it was exactly the same.
   That said, if you like the Shu, than you will love the Utowa.
   I should also note that I had to order it on eBay since I couldn’t find it at any other store but Mecca Cosmetica in Australia. (the store does not ship internationally)

   I went looking for the Shu Uemura eyelash curler because I got a gift certificate for my birthday that I could spend in a particular store in Melbourne. Of course, they didn’t stock Shu Uemura any more! But the girl told me about the Utowa eyelash curler and she said it’s exactly the same. I didn’t really believe her, and went home and researched the brand a little bit. It turns out that the guy that used to work at Shu Uemura left, and started the Utowa brand. I went back to the store another time, and I decided to of course try before I buy.

   The eyelash curler wasn’t cheap costing $45 AUS. I tried it and sure enough, it really curled my eyelashes. But I wasn’t convinced. The true test for me is when I apply the mascara. I find that with previous eyelash curlers, I apply the mascara and the curls drop. Yep, I’ve tried pumping the eyelashes, slowly working the eyelash curler along the lashes, and even applying the mascara differently, but it never worked! This eyelash curler did wonders. It doesn’t pinch, and does look almost identical to the Shu Uemura one! So once I applied the mascara, the curl didn’t drop! I had beautiful, curled lashes that looked long and beautiful (compared my usual straight and short).

   I can understand why people might not want to spend so much money on a brand they may not know much about, but I guess you really just have to go in there and try it! The other eyelash curler I have heard good reviews about is the Japonesque eyelash curler. It’s a lot cheaper, but is meant to be like the Shu Uemura one. I might try that next time, but for now my Utowa eyelash curler is fantastic!
