Gives long fluttery lashes, with a feather-like effect. But it flakes. A LOT. All the time. I have a hard time believe it’s for sensitive eyes and it has irritated my non-sensitive eyes. Disappointing.

I bought this because I was looking for a volumizing mascara that wouldn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, as most drugstore mascaras do, and wasn’t as expensive as Clinique. I got it on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart, so at least I didn’t pay full price for it. It also didn’t irritate my eyes, so that was good. Unfortunately, those are the only positive things I can say about this product.
This is definitely the worst mascara that I have ever tried. I understand that other people may have different experiences with it, but I have never had any mascara clump so much. This stuff is seriously goopy, probably a result of it being wax-based. I tried everything: scraping off the excess against the lip of the tube, blotting the wand thoroughly with a tissue or paper towel, applying as lightly as possible, combing through my lashes repeatedly with a very fine lash comb—nothing worked. Clump city, every time. It also smudged like crazy on my lower and upper eyelids. Even the much cheaper natural food store indie brand mascara that I used to use wasn’t this bad, and that one was very wet.
The packaging on this product was average. It’s a long black tube with a typical-looking wand—and here is the other issue. The wand has extremely stiff bristles, to the point where I could feel them poking uncomfortably into my eyelid when I wiggled the brush to get to the root of my lashes. I have never had this experience with any other mascara before, even the cheapest ones. On top of this, one of the bristles seemed longer than the others and eventually stuck out at a really odd angle, creating a potential hazard. I stopped using this mascara completely at this point.
It did give me some volume, but the clumping looked so awful that I stopped using it regularly. Honestly, I would prefer to go without on my nearly-invisible lashes than wear this stuff. Back to Clinique it is!

I am in love with this mascara! I wouldn’t say HG status because it does smudge as the day goes on especially if it’s hot humid outside but then again besides Cle de Peau’s The Mascara I haven’t come across anything that’s HG. However that being said I’m not spending $70+ for a mascara hence this is a very close second. I love the fact that this mascara really fans out my lashes and makes them long luscious and feathery! The pigment is dark and it doesn’t irritate my eyes. It also holds the curl and stays put all day even though it does fade a little by the end of the day but still holds well. I love that it smells of honey too. I heard that this has honey in it to provide nourishment to the lashes helping them to be stronger and preventing fallout. I love everything about this mascara! Definite repurchase!

This was recommended by the clerk for super sensitive skin around the eyes. So far, I have had no rash from it. Initially I found it a little hard to apply because it is so thick. But if I can use a mascara without getting a rash, I will gladly take the time needed to apply it. You need about three coats, and then you get long lashes. Unlike most other mascaras, it actually did lengthen and define my lower lashes. This costs more than average mascaras but less than the Diors and Lancomes. I am happy that it is non-irritating and gives good results.
Update Dec 7/16. This has become my holy grail mascara, the best mascara ever. It has it all – no irritation, no perfume, no lacquer, no resin, easy to wash off; dramatic, full, long lashes even with two coats; gets better and goes on better every week, nice brush shape, absolutely perfect product. I have no reason to even look at other brands. I can’t find a single thing wrong with this. I like it more every time I put it on (especially in contrast to that CG product I recently tried and liked for a short while). And they don’t even advertise. If they did advertise it would cost twice as much. I’ve bought so many crummy products because the ads suckered me in. If you are at all sensitive, do try this! And yes, it’s better than Diorshow, Lancome and Chanel. It took me a few weeks to realize it because I am not in the habit of wearing makeup every day. I’m getting back into it now since I have found products that do not contain toxins!
Note: I have since found that this has been around for ages. How come no one ever told me about it? Well, perhaps my local stores didn’t use to carry it.
Update Feb 3/17. This is coming to the end of the tube – I’ve had it a little over 3 months. I guess that is normal life for a mascara but it’s sad to have it drying out. It’s been the best mascara I ever used so I will have to get a new one. Still no irritation ever! I tried some others in the meantime because I was tempted, but I came back to this and will stay with this.
Update June 28/19. I stopped buying this because I no longer have the eczema and can use other mascaras that are not as pricey but are just as good.
Update Dec. 1/19: Looking at my old reviews, I am surprised how much I overrated this just because it didn’t give me a rash. It’s more telling that in my recent mascara study I did not buy this again. I just knew it would be a waste of over $40. I’ve found several decent mascaras that are in the $6 range when they are on sale (frequently), and have learned there is no perfect mascara. Even the most hyped and expensive ones clump, smear and dry out. Nowadays I hardly ever wear makeup because I don’t have time, plus it doesn’t make a difference anymore. I certainly have no craving to buy stuff like this which appealed to me when I was still insisting I had to wear makeup even though it irritated my face. The simple solution to get rid of skin irritation was to stop using makeup. Period. I think it takes seven months to fully heal the skin barrier and it can be ruined in a few days by using irritating makeup. Makeup only benefits the companies who sell it.

Nice, beautiful volume – fanned out lashes.

I hate mascaras that smudge, and this smudges badly. I originally bought it because I have sensitive eyes and almost all mascaras seemed to irritate them. This mascara is recommended for people with sensitive eyes by the Allergy and Asthma Federation of Finland due to that it’s scentless and the ingredients are harmless. For instance, it contains only a tiny amount of nickel. I have to give credit; it never bothered my sensitive eyes.
The mascara makes my lashes look natural and longer. However, I can’t recommend mascara that ends up giving me raccoon eyes. And this happened all the time, even on normal weather conditions! For this reason, I won’t repurchase.

I hate to be the odd one out here with my negative review, especially because I adore lots of LRP products. This mascara was pretty much a total dud for me though. While it was gentle enough on my very sensitive eyes, the formula clumps like crazy. Oddly, it is also quite tricky to remove with LRPs own brand eye makeup remover. Not impressed and can not wait for the tube to be empty so I can cut my losses and move on.

I liked this mascara much more than I thought I would. I love La Roche-Posay for skincare, and I bought this on a whim the last time I was in Paris. It’s definitely effective at lengthening — not so much volumizing, though. It would be best, in my opinion, for those who already have thick lashes and need a defining mascara. The brush is great — it seems to grab every little lash. I wear contacts, and it’s wonderful for sensitive eyes.

I didn’t expect too much from this mascara, I don’t know why, because La Roche Posay is owned bij L’Oreal and they know how to make a mascara, but somehow I always think that when you buy a mascara for very sensitive eyes it will perform worse than normal mascara.
For this that theory doesn’t count. I have the volumising version and it is perfect, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, it stays on my lashes the whole day and it is easy to remove. It indeed gives more volume.
There is a waterproof volumising version too, but that is not the one I have tried.
The only con is the price, 19 euro’s in Holland.
Update march 2014:
I took one lippy, because now that I have tried other mascara’s, this is not the best one for me if you look at the staying power. This mascara smudges a bit at the end of the day, when my skin becomes more oily. For example the Max Factor False Lash doesn’t smudge at all (I can put eye drops in my eyes all day and the mascara of Max Factor still doesn’t smudge).
Update december 2015:
I have the RESPECTISSIME ULTRA-DOUX now, for very sensitive eyes. This is a very nice gentle mascara that is easy to remove and doesn’t make my lashes stiff. The only con is that the inpact it gives my lashes is not much, it gives just a bit of colour.

it’s ok. but not perfect 🙂
