I bought this shampoo not for the purpose of treating hair loss, but believe it or not, for psoriasis. I just happened to see the term “exfoliating” and I had to give it a try. Initially I only bought the sample/travel size, which was $9 USD for 1.7 oz, or 50 ml, just in the event that if I didn’t like it, then I wouldn’t be stuck with a full bottle. It did miracles getting rid of the scales on my scalp!!! I started out by washing my hair as soon as I stepped into the shower, and left it in for about five minutes while I washed and shaved. This shampoo contains BOTH lactic acid AND salicylic acid, both of which are exfoliators. It also contains turmeric, which is a major anti inflammatory, and psoriasis is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder. This shampoo is also free of irritating sulfates. After running out of the travel size, I went to my local Aveda store to purchase the full size and I just raved excitedly to the associate how much this shampoo helped my psoriasis, and she was pretty rude! She frowned, stating that I should only buy that product if the intent is for hair loss; otherwise, I should buy their products meant for scalp care, in a condescending manner. The intent for my purchase was for exfoliation, and it did exactly that. I suppose people who don’t have to live with a chronic disorder that significantly impacts one’s quality of life and/or their social life just don’t understand.

If you have thinning hair or hair loss issues. the Invati range is aimed at helping that – minus the harsh chemicals! I decided to put the range to the test recently (along with a few others) whilst on a short hiatus from my usual hair loss product of choice. As you may be aware Aveda have recently updated all the formulations in the range and bettered them (comparing to the previous formulations which I used back in 2011). Price point is ok, slightly on the ‘high’ side for a shampoo – $33 for 6.7 fl oz. As a fan of Aveda in general I was looking forward to seeing what the upgraded range had to offer…
Firstly, the ingredients. There’s more of them, beneficial herbs and plant extracts aplenty in this and of course no SLS. The packaging has also been improved. I had issues with the dispenser clogging up with the old version, so far this one has not given me any problems.
I use this every second day, massaging into my scalp and letting it do its thing for a couple of minutes whilst I soap up. You don’t have to off course as instructions don’t suggest this. I just find it more beneficial to allow the ingredients a chance to be absorbed and work their magic. It smells nice – herbal-y with a hint of Lavender and perhaps Rosemary in there, lathers quite well and rinses out easily leaving my hair looking shiny and getting rid of any scalp build-up. I find it best to lift my hair in layers when aiming the shower head at my hair as this helps to get the shampoo out completely. If any residue is left, no matter how small, it makes my hair lank and totally flat.
Results have been good so far. It does seem to help with controlling hair loss when used as a full system. Not as good as other products I’ve used before but still definitely worth trying. Above all the ingredients is full of botanicals with good properties and actually makes me look forward to using and getting all this goodness into my hair and scalp! I will write up on the conditioner and scalp revitalizer shortly.
