I first received and used a sample of this and immediately bought a full-sized bottle. Over the course of using this product, my hyper-pigmentation did decrease and I have no adverse effects whatsoever. It absorbed wonderfully and wasn’t sticky. My only issue with the product is the price. I have since found two budget-friendly alternatives: Good Molecules Discoloration Correction Serum $12/1 fl. oz. (which has a nearly identical ingredient list to SkinCeuticals) and The Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment at $14.99/1 fl. oz. (which is a gel-cream consistency with a lot of the same ingredients as SkinCeuticals too). My preference is actually The Inkey List’s, so I won’t be repurchasing SkinCeuticals.

This serum has been a game changer for me. I received a sample of this in the Blue Mercury spring In Bloom sample bag. I am in my 40’s with dry, flaky, blotchy, red skin. I don’t have acne or any uneven skin, just very red and blotchy. I have been using this every morning and night before my moisturizer for about 4 weeks now. The red is almost gone and my skin is so smooth and moisturized. This works great with the Darphin Intral line and Avene. I’ve since switched all my skin care and my sensitive face is so happy. I have more confidence to wear very light or no make-up now. It’s expensive, but the bottle should last a while, considering I only use it sparingly.

This didn’t work for me.
The marketing states “Discoloration Defense is a layerable, daily-use dark spot corrector clinically proven to reduce the appearance of key types of skin discoloration, including hard-to-treat forms such as stubborn brown patches and post-acne marks.” I have one small dark spot that has popped up on the side of my face and a couple spots on my chin from a breakout. After using a bottle, the spots are still there.
The product is a light liquid serum – similar to a vitamin c type serum. It’s easy to apply and sinks in quickly. It didn’t sting or cause any irritation or other issues.

The SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense is a light serum that is supposed to lighten skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation, melasma, and post acne scars. I went through my first bottle so fast that I didn’t have time to review it before it was sadly empty but I did get a sample in one of my subscription boxes so I have a chance to review it. The texture of this is a very light serum/ oil and it absorbs pretty quickly. I recommend using this in place of your regular serum and use this immediately after toning. I used this product at night and did notice some minor skin lightening which almost completely returned once I finished the bottle. Be sure to use SPF during the day or else you probably won’t notice any skin lightening at all. I do like that this is fragrance and alcohol free and is safe for those with sensitive skin. This has several proven lightening ingredients such as kojic acid, tranexamic acid, and niacinamide. Taking that into account, I’m still not sure this justifies the almost $100 price tag, but if you like the brand this is a lightener that is worth checking out. My video review can be seen here;
