I don’t know about the original but this is a not so shy cherry-dominant fragrance, bringing the colour red in front of my eyes until its drydown and then it becomes a clean white powdery scent on me. It is not a big mix of fruits, it is not a tropical coconut coctail, it is decidedly cherry.
The fruity opening surprises me as I haven’t been able to beyond Dr.Pepper or cherry pie associations with this note on my skin that often. Here, I don’t get, either. This is obviously not a voluptous cherry, it is on the fresh and synthetic side and it is almost neon bright, but interestingly it doesn’t turn screechy. I have nothing against these kinds of notes unless they are trying to hide in a perfume with a different vibe and ruining a completely different olfactory journey for me. Here, I think of Escadas and the Incanto series of my younger days.
This being marketed as a chypre – albeit a modern one of course- I expected some rose combined with a bit of dark vibe and then the base heating up. These did not happen on my skin. The fragrance sweetens and gets more intense for a moment but there is a general feel of floral notes instead of a big bloom of rose or any other flower. I can also get some mint adding airiness and for a brief moment, I even think Bombshell Intense is going to have a clean, clear but dark feeling like Bond No.9 Bryant Park provides on me skin. And it does, in a miniscule way. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough in this heart to captivate me. It slowly fades and I remember that I’m wearing it when the powdery drydown hits me after a while.
Surprisingly, the drydown is surprisingly powdery on me, coupled with a soft vanilla. I quite like it although I didn’t expect it from something called Bombshell Intense.
I don’t love Bombshell Intense. I don’t dislike it, either. But I expect more depth and effort at this price range. Seriously, Victoria’s Secret is not exactly budget friendly in my country. With department store discounts elsewhere and the full price or the campaign policy of this are compared, it is indeed quite an expensive fragrance. Just last week, some classical bottles of Estee Lauder was cheaper than this, so were some Armani’s. Whether you like them or not is personal, but the buyer’s options do increase and Bombshell Intense then falls short of competing with the effort, or even with the semi-effort that goes in some other perfumes. I mean 75 ml of this more or less at the same range with a 50 ml Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme. Really? That one is a perfume that gives a similar vibe in a much better made fashion. 2.5 for this pricing – effort reason.
