The brush was fine/serviceable, if a little small. It’s a bristle brush (which I prefer over the plastic/ rubber ones) which is tapered at the end and it coats lashes well. The mascara formula left a lot to be desired. It’s on the drier side, creating clumped together lashes and lots of little crumbs. I definitely needed to comb through a few times after application. Also experienced some (albeit minor) eye irritation from use. This mascara did have some thickening effect, has rich pigmentation, and lasts without fading or melting. However, the negatives outweigh the positives of the formula. Pass.

Doesn’t go on very smoothly, and smudged within a few hours of application. I didn’t have any emollient creams below my eye to cause this, so I blame the product. It also doesn’t thicken appreciably with just one coat.

I liked this mascara, but it seemed to leave a shadow under my lower lashes and it is difficult to remove. Otherwise, it did not irritate my eyes. I will not re-purchase this.

I found this mascara to be clumpy and difficult to work with. The combination of the formulation and the brush gave me such poor results and no matter how much I tried to fix the look of my lashes with this product the worse it looked. I thought I would try Almay since I’ve never used their mascara before but I’m not repurchasing this one, into the bin it goes:(

This is an outstanding mascara and costs only $4.99 in Target. I happen to think it’s a hidden gem at the drugstore, I never even hear it talked about on YouTube but I don’t know why. It gives so much thickness and length, no clumping, separates each lash beautifully and doesn’t smear or transfer after being on for hours and hours. My lashes look and feel silky and they keep that freshly applied look until I remove it with just soap and water. I highly recommend this one!!

This mascara causes build-up on my contacts. At first, I thought it was “user error” meaning I wasn’t applying it correctly. Now, I know that isn’t the case. I switch to one of your other brands, and it does NOT collect behind my contacts. For this reason, I am giving the Almay one coat THICKENING Waterproof mascara a 1 lipstick. SFinn

Wow! I was not expecting to have such luck with this brand.
I am a contact wearer with sensitive eyes. All of the other drug store brand mascaras I’ve tried have ended up flaking and irritating my eyes a lot. I decided to give Almay a shot because they claim to be especially for sensitive skin. It only cost $4.99 for this tube of mascara at Target, and so to be honest I wasn’t expecting much. The first time trying this, I was completely blown away! My eyelashes looked long, thick, beautiful, and clump free with just one coat. And the mascara lasts all day –not a single flake away. The best part is that this mascara also doesn’t irritate my eyes. In fact, it actually feels kind of nice wearing it. Perhaps it’s the conditioner it has in it.
This is going to be my go-to mascara from now on.

Who knew that Whole (Paycheck) Foods had a beauty department filled with mineral based mascaras? I didn’t!
I was rushing to the office last week and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and cringed after realizing I had forgotten to apply mascara! I rushed into Whole Foods and ran into a young man who helped me pick out something “black, thickening and reasonably priced” which turned out to be ZuZu!
I was shocked at how thick and shiny the formula looked and it applied easily, dried quickly, elongated my lashes with two thin coats with no clumps, smears, smudges and stayed that way until I washed it off that night. I kept touching my lashes to test for flaking, but nope, nothing.
Would I buy it again? No. But only because there are so many more mascaras to try. But in a pinch, when there is no other place to purchase but Whole Foods, there is ZuZu and it is a winner.

This is not a bad natural mascara in the sense that it doesn’t smudge on the under eyes like so many other natural brands. It can be a little dry and flaky so it’s better for those who just want a simple single coat.
My problem with the product is the development of styes and eye infections that inevitably occurs after just a few days of use. There are no preservatives in this mascara which might be a draw for some, but personally, I can’t risk it.

Gluten free, which is VERY hard to find in mascara. Doesn’t clump and is buildable (so one coat for very natural look, 2 is my fav and 3 you can do for night). Doesn’t flake and doesn’t smudge for me, stays on for 16+ hours. Very happy to find this!

I like this mascara it makes my lashes full and long It is pretty exepensive

At first I was excited to use this (more) natural, alternative mascara, but I was a bit disappointed. Sure, it does it job as far as adding some volume and color. But I hate that it smudges after a couple of hours. Also when applied, it is a bit flakey and clumpy..

I always come back to this.
Face value, this mascara doesn’t seem that special. It does a good basic job for thickening and lengthening (not dramatic, mostly natural). It does flake a little, but I only clean it up 1 MAYBE 2 times per 10-15 hour day and it’s usually pretty minimal. If you go by those things then $16 for a mascara hardly seems worth it. The reason I come back to this is that it nourishes my lashes when other mascaras have caused sparseness and trauma. The little bald areas grow back nicely and lashes feel a little softer than before I used the mascara. I admit, I have been a bit of a product junkie just because I’m curious. When all goes awry, I turn back to this to get things back to a healthy order. It’s not over the top, but I love it.

This Mascara was unfortunately a total fail for me. My first impression: it’s clumping. There I go having to fix my lashes with a comb. Ok, next, it irritated my eyes and made the itchy. To top it off, it left little black flakes under my eyes. For a more thorough review, check out: http://www.sensitastic.blogspot.com

Never have I raved about a mascara that isn’t waterproof, but I’m raving right now. As long as I curl my lashes properly, this stuff gives me nice, dense, pretty lashes and I love that it comes in a black brown option. It’s an average price for a drugstore mascara and it doesn’t have an obnoxious, bubblegum colored, over the top tube. Just simple white and purple, so another thumbs up! I haven’t noticed flaking, but then again I don’t check for that really. Best washable mascara I’ve come across so far.

Wow, I was not prepared for a mascara home run from Almay! Not that I wasn’t expecting much, I just prefer very dramatic lashes and I didn’t foresee this making the grade. Maybe it was the kind of boring packaging, or the fact that Almay is not a brand that screams “GLAM” to me, but I really didn’t know if I would like this mascara too much..
Well, every once in a while on my makeup journey I am very pleasantly surprised! This is pretty much a winner across the board- the price is decent ($8.99), it’s a volumizing formula that holds a curl super well, doesn’t flake, doesn’t smudge. The wand is average-sized, so I guess Almay didn’t get the memo that every new mascara has to have a wand either super thin or massively caterpillar-huge (good on them- not everyone is “into” those).
If you’re familiar with drugstore mascaras and looking for a comparison, I would say this achieves the same overall “look” as the Maybelline Lash Sensational or CG Super Sizer. The wand on the former is curved and a bit harder to apply; the wand on the latter is very small and thin. If you want volumized, curled lashes and don’t mind just a regular spiral mascara wand, this One Coat is a great alternative for you. I was especially pleased that this mascara held a curl really well and didn’t smudge at ALL after 10+ hours of wear. This is kind of a rarity for me with mascaras, so yes I will be repurchasing!

Provided good volume, but after four hours I had raccoon eyes, and it wasn’t even hot outside. Actually, I was only outside for a few minutes & spent the rest of the time in an air-conditioned library. Maybe the waterproof formula will last longer… Will not repurchase.

I adored this mascara when I bought it. It was gorgeous. The combination of the brush and the lovely formula delivered such beautiful, fluffy, natural-looking lashes that I could build up easily with just another couple coats.
Unfortunately, within a couple months, I started noticing that my eyelashes were actually coming off on the brush when I used it. This could have just been a weird reaction on my part, but I’ve not had that problem with another mascara before or since. I stopped using it completely after I realized what was happening and was seriously heartbroken because a. It was sort of pricey and b. I really did love it at first. Darn.

The worst thing I can say about this product is that it’s not Dior Show. But considering I’m comparing apples and oranges, that’s not much of an indictment. The hardest part about weaning myself off highly toxic/chemically cosmetics is finding a mascara that makes me happy. This was a worthy purchase — I think it was about $14, which doesn’t horrify me, considering what I’m used to paying for mascara. The formula is satisfying — two or three thin coats builds a good, strong lashline. The trick I’ve figured out that really makes this mascara work is to let it dry a bit before I fluff my lashes out with a spoolie.

I have this in espresso, and like it so much more than 100% pure pigmented mascaras. I like it as a stand alone, not thinking whether its natural or not. It actually gives some volume, yes its water resistant yet comes off easily with oils. Its my second foray into natural mascaras, and much better than my first! Happy to have made the impulse buy at Whole Foods because I will definately repurchase.
