My skin does not vibe with this ”moistruizer” at all. I always get super dry and my skin starts to peel off (and it Never stops). Does not help with skin issues at all and seen no result whatsoever. My skin got so much better without this. Do not recommend

I am using the ordinary magnesium ascorbyl now for nearly two months, and I like it. I have dry combination skin and apply at first the Hyaluronic acid followed by the niacinamide and “seal” it with the magnesium ascorbyl. The products are great if you are using them daily, it takes a bit of time to apply them, but once you get the hang of it, you will love it. I am not sure if this is beneficial in case you’re using it on its own. But if you have similar skin concerns as I do and do a regimen, it will work, and you won’t be disappointed. I did a little video diary for about one month and documented every day. I hope that this can help you. ❤️

This is one of a few ordinary products I started using about 2 months ago. I also bought their niacinamide, caffeine eye serum, HA moisturizing cream and a retinoid (but I havent dipped into that yet).
I decided to go with this vitamin c cream from their line because of two main factors- low irritation and it was compatible with their niacinamide which most vitamin c serums are not. Of the ordinary products I bought, this is the only one I’m not really crazy about.
Pros-
– affordable
– packaging is decent and not bulky
– I do think this works slowly over time.
– I personally don’t notice a strong smell
– compatible with niacinamide and said to be low irritation. I had no issues there.
Cons-
– it did very mildly sting the first few times I used it, but so did the niacinamide. My skin can be sensitive and it is winter.
– Very odd texture. It is in a silicone formula. It looks like cream when you dispense it but it feels like a silicone… It also feels like it dries very very quickly.
– I have read some controversy over the ingredients. A lot of people say this formula has some ingredients that can contribute to acne.
– It often pills on me…
This is the main reason I won’t be repurchasing this. I did follow their layering suggestion for these products. I have narrowed it down to only this product that pills and some days it pills much worse than others. Currently I’m only using it at night because of this which is a waste and again, it just pills off. Maybe there is a trick to apply it but I did play around with little success.
I will be trying a different vitamin c derivative from their line and I will post my thoughts in a couple months.

One of the multitude of Vitamin C serums that the Ordinary has on offer. This comes in a small 30mL squeezy tube, not in the usual glass bottle + pipette dropper lid. This is not the most potent version, and doesn’t offer visible results as quickly as some of the other products, particularly the L-ascorbic acid powder and the vitamin C suspensions in HA and silicone. I use a variety of other products on my skin and the stronger vitamin C tends to be too much for it. This is milder, and comes in a hydrating cream formula – feels quite refreshing on application without stinging or burning. It is heavier than a serum so I use sparingly.
It takes a while for its effects to start showing, but I have noticed a modest improvement in overall evenness of skin tone – most of my discolouration issues stem from acne and the red marks left once a pimple heals, and some patchy beige areas on my torso when I get a flare of tinea versicolor in hot weather. For the first 2-3 weeks of use, I didn’t notice any difference, but seeing as it wasn’t causing problems I thought I might as well finish the bottle at least. I’m glad I stuck with it as it has helped fade pink marks more quickly. Had another premenstrual breakout 2 weeks ago, pimples showed up on my skin like rowdy teenagers gatecrashing a party and leaving red wine stains all over the place after being booted out. Only instead of wine on carpets, it’s acne marks on skin. Now, nothing’s going to fade marks 100% overnight, but I used to have pink and red marks from healed spots all over the place, my skin often looked worse than it was. Might have had 5 new pimples only but with all the pink marks, it looked like I had a lot more spots than I actually did. I started to notice after 3 weeks that these were fading but part of me wondered whether I was trying to subconsciously “justify” my purchase. However, during my most recent breakout, I had a small number of spots appear on my cheeks and chin but for the first time, it looked like a few spots on otherwise clear skin as surrounding them, the halos of red and pink spots had vanished.
Similarly, after successful antifungal treatment for tinea versicolor this lightens the hyperpigmentation left behind.
As an aside…
I use this with niacinamide, which also can lighten hyperpigmentation too. The official advice is to not mix the two because they neutralise each other, but in fact only a tiny proportion ends up inactive in this way. For those interested, a cosmetics chemist wrote about this in his blog:

Tried this based on the recommendation in Ordinary website on pigmentation issues. I have few small dark spots on my cheeks that I’m trying to get rid.
Formula is thick but not sticky. It absorbs very well that I felt it is not hydrating enough for my normal-dry skin. Note on the scent: it has quite a strong chemical scent that I really can’t stand.

After three weeks of use I had to give it up. It just wasn’t doing anything for me. It has a waxy feel to it upon application on my skin and it made my face look so dull and flat even after I applied my moisturizing SPF. Felt like I was wearing a mask. I saw zero change occur with this product. I will not toss it in the bin but will use it on my chest and tops of my hands as to not waste it.

Love everything about this product. I’ve been using it for 4 months in my morning routine under mineral sunblock. My acne didn’t flare up, and my skin feels clean, healthy and hydrated. I love the smell but my husband doesn’t so I guess not for everyone. I plan on using this for a long time, absolute favoutite.

I do love the concept of this brand: effective ingredients at effective potencies and of course a price tag that allows the formulations to be within just about anyone’s reach. However not all ‘Ordinary’ products are created equal. Take this one for example. I used to apply it every morning but it would begin to pile, the consistency is just…unusual, like a cream with plenty of ‘slip’ but yet also dry, it’s tricky to describe. In any case I had to switch to PM use so that my MU would not crumble when applied over this. For me this wasn’t ideal as I wanted a potent anti-oxidant for daytime use to serve its purpose! as a night treatment it’s fair enough, nothing to write home about. I did notice a brightening effect (although very mild) and again the consistency does not make it a joy to apply. I am kind of on the fence about this one, for me the biggest downer is not being able to apply during the day which was the reason I bought it. I’ve also tried their ‘Ascorbyl glucoside solution 12%’ which although had more of a brightening effect; it did sadly break me out so I had to discontinue use. Pretty sure I would not repurchase this one.

I did not expect this to be so waxy/greasy! (It’s actually quite hard to wash off my fingers after application). I have only been using it at night because of how shiny and sticky it is. Price is affordable, and shipping within Canada was extremely fast.
