I had no idea this would be such a milky consistency but no matter, it is unscented and applies easily, no grit, no stickiness, just a a few drops for the entire face is all that is needed. I feel that it is relatively strong for an OTC retinoid formula, probably why we can’t get it in Canada despite TO being a Canadian company. It wasn’t horrible, but the evidence was there as soon as I washed my face the following morning, those flaky bits that suggest deeper cell regeneration but annoying as heck to wear any makeup overtop of. I find my sweet spot for using any retinol/retinoid product is no more than twice a week, and generally speaking at a relatively low dosage because I just can’t deal with the peeling, flaking skin. For those that can handle a stronger retinoid this is a solid choice. Maybe it’s fortunate that I can’t tolerate it for regular use since I’d have to make a trip across the border to purchase it anyway.

I have been using this for about 2 months now. I have had no adverse effects on my skin, no allergies or peeling etc. I am also into instant gratification unfortunately and I have no patience whatsoever so I like to see results quickly. I can’t say it isn’t doing anything but I can’t see any change. I have been told that any retinol product takes time to show results.
I probably would buy again but in a higher dosage.

I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and I love it. The price is so good, and the results are even better. My skin is super soft and got a new glow. This product has helped me with my cystic acne and the deep scars on my chin are almost gone. I am amazed! At first I used this about once a week, but now I’m using it every other night. I start with a hydrating serum/lotion and then I add the retiniod. After that I apply facial oil and moisturizer to make sure that my skin doesn’t get dry. I only use it in my evening skin care routine, and in the morning I apply sunscreen to protect my face. My skin is quite used to acids since I’ve been using BHA from Paulas Choice for the past years. But this product gives much better results at a much better price point. Totally worth a try!

I sing The Ordinary’s praises, because frankly they deserve it. Almost every product I have tried has been a hit. No frills, no fillers, no bullcrap. Packaged appropriate for the preservation of the effectiveness of ingredients. Extremely affordable prices. Real results. This product is all of that.
I use this and the Peeling Solution and have taken 10 years off of my face. I’m not exaggerating.. Most effective Retinol treatment I’ve ever tried. My husband asked me who the new man was, that I looked fresh and glowing. I have been asked if I had gotten botox. My friend asked how my makeup looks so good when I spent only five minutes on it.
My skin is sensitive and this product is kind to it. Make sure you are moisturizing. All retinoids are drying. Make sure you are exfoliating. Give it time to cause cell turn over. Your skin will purge. Your wrinkles will pronounce, then shed off and soften, and eventually disappear. Well worth the price. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Of course with any skin care you need time to see changes/result. I did not see any immediate change on my skin but i had a pleasant time applying it every night as This emulsion sinks in well into my skin, no irritation at all and does not dry my skin. i would say that after time, it did help with my uneven skin tone. Can’t say much about keeping whiteheads at bay though cos i do have those popping out here and there with or without this emulsion. I would say that at the price point, it is definitely a repurchase. I have used two bottles, though in the future i would more likely be trying the retinol in squalane from the oridnary instead.

First off don’t count on this as your main chemical exfoliator if your skin is used to chemical exfoliation. I have sensitive/rosacea-prone skin and it’s still not enough on its own, even with nightly use.
Now with that being said… I really do like this product. It is quite gentle, which is good news for my skintype. It doesn’t cause me to peel, and I do notice that it’s keeping my acne at bay. I can use it every night. Some people can only use it every couple of nights so your mileage may vary. I still use an AHA product (ie glycolic acid toner) here and there for an extra boost of exfoliation. But for nightly use – this has replaced my Differin gel for now. I find that this is even more gentle on my skin’s barrier. (And I love adapalene/Differin).
This is probably the most hydrating retinoid product I’ve ever used. You’d think that’d be awful news for my oily/acne prone skin. But this hasn’t clogged my pores whatsoever. My make up applies a lot more smoothly the next day.

This bottle is definitely my lifesaver. I experience acne relapse only after 4 months I finished my 6 months of accutane 20mg course. At the moment when I notice I am experiencing relapse, I know I must look for an alternative to cure my condition except only rely on oral pills. I then started to google for a over the counter product that works to cure hormonal acne. After tons of searching and reading, I decided to go for this retinoid.
As always, it will gets worse before it gets better. I experienced quite a bad purging in the 1st 6 weeks but the purge was bearable compared to my previous accutane purge. Purge was only at both side of my cheeks and lower jaw line area. At the 7th week, I started to see improvement on my face. My face is smoother and softer, scars developed during purging are started to fade slowly, no breakout but for sure a minimal breakout during PMS period is unavoidable.
It is a must to hydrate your face while using this product as it will definitely dries and peels your skin if you not hydrate your skin properly. I use it with Hada Labo hydrating lotion and Cetaphil moisturising cream and I never experience peeling and dryness except a minor dryness at my nose area while using this.
I don’t mind its chemical smell & the milky (closed to oily) texture as most complain coz these are just a little bother for how effective it works on me.

I don’t like this product. It’s texture is like milk and quite nice, but I feel like it mildly irritates my skin after even one use and it’s even noticeable when I tried to use it up on my body. It just makes my skin less “calm”.

I started out quite liking this product, as it is non-irritating and has a nice milky texture. As time goes by though, I find that it isn’t really doing anything. Also my nice milky serum has started to become kind of sticky, so I am wondering how stable the (water-based) formula is. I note that all of The Ordinary’s other retinols/oids are in the squalane base, and their ingredients list is much simpler than this Emulsion.
Anyway, I went over to The Ordinary 0.2 % retinol in squalane, and have found it to be MUCH more effective than the granactive emulsion. It is indeed more irritating as the company states, but I only have to use it once every few days due to how strong it is. This definitely seems to be a ‘no pain, no gain’ situation. The 0.2 retinol is slightly irritating, as compared to this emulsion, but it’s not a big deal and the level of effectiveness can’t be compared. If you want a real retinol, I wouldn’t bother with the granactive retinoid.
