For an oil-free product this has a surprisingly oily feeling to it. You can use this in the AM and the PM. I find it takes a little longer to absorb into the skin so you will spend a fair amount of time massaging it in. Once you do it will leaves your skin feeling supple all day/night. If you don’t enjoy an oily feeling product, then you will not like this. I don’t know that I saw a difference using this formula in terms of brightening and/or lightening sun damage which is why I am giving it such a low rating. Like any product, it works for some, not for others. This is a pass for me.

I’ve used this over a year on face, neck and back of hands and there is NO difference in my melasma, or texture, or skin brightening. I took several photos of before and after and mapped the worse spots. Also my pimple marks have started darkening where they didn’t before so I don’t think its effective. Compared to the Alpha Arbutin with HA I used before, this dries out my skin, and is tinted orange. I first started using at night but it stained my white pillowcases with orange streaks so I switched to the daytime teamed with a high SPF. At night I used The Ordinary’s Niacinimide serum which is supposed to further brighten the skin.
Its a very thick, sticky, shiny, orange gel serum with the texture of an oily thick cough syrup. Sits on the surface of skin in a tacky uncomfortable layer and does not absorb for hours. Messes with makeup somewhat. I do know that Vitamin C is a skin brightener and Alpha Arbutin is a Tryrosinine Inhibitor, and both take a LONG time to be effective when compared to Hydroquinone. But one year should be enough to make it work. I think this gel form creates a barrier layer that prevents the actives in my moisturisers from getting through and doesn’t help my skin. I appreciate The Ordinary is cheap but their reliance on that sticky gel form of serum is letting them down.

What I love about Deciem is that if the product doesn’t work or you’re not happy with it, they will refund you. I bought this to help with to fight melasma patches and thought if it doesn’t work, I can always get my money back.
The serum is fairly thick and doesn’t absorb as easily as some. If I don’t rub the serum in, it can sit on the skin. 2-3 drops is all that is required for the whole face. I notice that on application, it does give a slight warming feeling, not sure what causes this, but I’ve not had any adverse reactions
I’ve been alternating this nightly with The Ordinary mandelic acid and 6 weeks in, I can see a slight improvement in the melasma – this is particularly impressive as this is during the summer months when melasma usually gets worse.

I’ve been using this over 6 months and I cannot tell a difference at all. This is my first time using a vitamin C product. It’s syrupy and sticky and has an orange hue which I don’t actually mind, but it has done nothing for my discoloration or and anti-aging benefits. Time for something stronger I guess.

Although I’m a bit of a skincare junkie, and I’m new to Vitamin C. Prior to this, I was experimenting more with acids, vitamin B, and retinols, until I finally made my way to Vitamin C. This was my first Vitamin C serum and I absolutely love it.
I use this in the morning exclusively as I use retinol at night. I actually LOVE putting this stuff on. It has the viscosity of corn syrup (not surprising since it is a derivative of corn sugar apparently), it feels like a slightly oily but non sticky version of corn syrup, and it smells like sugar. When I put it on it smells like I’ve walked into a candy store, and the product spreads/smooths on beautifully. I have no issues using it under my moisturizer and makeup. I don’t find it particularly thick/oily/uncomfortable.
As a newbie to Vitamin C, this seemed like a good concentration to start with (not too low, not too high) and the alpha arbutin is a bonus since I’m trying to reduce some sun spots. I did not experience any irritation when using this product, but I did get flaking. Maybe its in combination with the retinol, but my hyperpigmentation spots caused by pimples started flaking off within days. I never experienced anything so immediate, and so targeted. Any problem areas (congestion/dry patches), started to flake off, and clear up. I feel like retinol has been very helpful at decongesting my skin, and the Vitamin C swoops in to clean up the aftermath. I’ve been using this everyday for a full month now, and my skin is definitely clearer, brighter and smoother.
This comes in the standard dropper bottle format from the Ordinary, which is great for portion control, and the dark bottle prevents the product from going bad. Price wise, it is unbeatable as expected. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone new to Vitamin C and is looking for a brightening treatment. I will continue to use, and repurchase, unless I decide to upgrade to the stronger varieties (I would eventually like to try the L-Ascorbic powder offered by The Ordinary).

So I jumped on the Ordinary bandwagon and just went crazy. By far, this brand is one of the best skincare finds of the century. Most of the products worked well for me and considering the price, I really don’t have any complaints. However, as always, some products work better than others.
I was attracted to this due to the combi of Vit C and arbutin, but maybe I should have stuck to a high level of one ingredient instead of settling for low levels of both? I didn’t find that it made much of a difference in brightening my skin (I’m used to Vit C), and I don’t like the feel of the product. It’s slightly warming and stinging. It’s gooey and oily at the same time, and doesn’t get absorbed into the skin quickly. it leaves a sticky layer that makes putting on a moisturiser on top a problem. Also, when I wipe my face the next morning, my cotton ball has an orange stain. I would recommend sticking to a higher dose Vit C serum.

Since I was using the Alpha Arbutin anyway, when I saw it combined with Vitamin C, I jumped at it. The serum has a nice consistency, and helps a little with lightening dark spots. (However, it does not have the brightening power of The Ordinary’s Vit. C Suspension + HA Spheres — that stuff is awesome!) Since I used to use Skinceuticals CE+Ferulic, I now use this serum combined with the Resveratrol and Ferulic in the morning, and I have something even better than Skinceuticals for a mere fraction of the price. I still use the suspension at night a few times a week.

Updating my review to 5 lippies. When you’ve been using a product for about a week and your husband asks if you are wearing makeup when you are makeup free you know it’s working!
In my never ending quest to conquer my melasma I have used countless serums, toners, lotions and creams that claim to brighten, fade, lighten the brown patches on my cheeks and upper lip only to see them continue to spread and darken. In the last year I strictly used La praire and Skinceauticals in my effort to erase them. I was spending about $800 every 3 months for very minimal results. However, 2 days use of The Ordinary’s Ascorbic Acid and Alpha Arbutin did more to fade the marks than one years use of Skinceaticals’s CE Ferulic.
I rated this product 4 lippies because it’s only been two days. I will evaluate further in about 2 weeks. The consistency is thicker than other serums due to the base, therefore very little is needed. There is no noticeable scent.
I’ve also added Bioloque Recherche’s Lotion P50 about 5 days ago, which is an amazing product and I believe brings my skin to the proper Ph in order to make all other products to follow more effective.
