I bought this a year ago and used it up last winter. I wanted something to supplement a moisturizer I already liked but needed more ‘umph’ during the cold months. It’s lightweight and the packaging of the product was great but the actual substance did nothing. Literally nothing. It was like I did not add anything to my skincare routine except a bit more time. On the plus side it didn’t break me out.

I’m surprised by how much I like this! I’ve tried a couple of serums before, but this is sort of the consistency of a really light moisturizer mixed with a little serum, if that makes sense. It’s thicker than I expected from a serum, but much thinner than most moisturizers I’ve used.
I only use it during the day because I use oils at night, but I love it for day use. I have combination skin that’s more oily than dry, but I HAVE to use moisturizer or my skin gets very dry, very quickly. I had trouble finding something light enough for during the day, though, because I always wear sunscreen, primer, and foundation (sometimes set with powder) when I leave the house, and regular moisturizers were too heavy. I’m also acne prone and usually have at least a few spots at any given time. This hasn’t made them worse, which is basically a miracle.
**Update 02/26/2017: I’ve been using this for about 6 months now, and in that time, my skin has changed from oily with dry patches (usually only in winter) to normal to dry with a couple of oily spots. (I’m guessing it might have something to do with finding out gluten is not my friend and cutting it out, which has dramatically improved my skin overall, but who knows.)
Now that my skin is on the drier side, I do still like this stuff and use it daily, but sometimes it isn’t quite enough moisture so I need something more on the driest parts of my face. I think that is only because it’s also winter right now, though, so I’m reasonably confident that spring through autumn it would be fine on its own. I’ll update again to confirm in a few months, if I’m still using this.
Also, 6 months and it still hasn’t caused breakouts or an allergic reaction, or any irritation around my eyes! END UPDATE**
Pros:
-bottle with a pump
-the packaging is also very pretty in my opinion (not that it matters…)
-lightweight, but still nicely moisturizing (we’ll see how it does once winter comes along, though)
-hasn’t caused a breakout/made one worse
-hasn’t irritated my sensitive skin
-a little goes a long way (one pump easily covers my face and down onto my neck a little)
-after it dries, I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything on my skin like I have with some other moisturizing things
-I can also dab it around my eyes with no issues with irritation
Cons:
-a little on the pricey side for drugstore, and especially E.L.F. (but I’d buy it again)
-takes a little while to fully absorb/dry (I have to wait 5-10 minutes before moving on to sunscreen and makeup)
I’m really impressed with this and will definitely purchase it again when I run out, unless it causes a reaction before then.

I recently started using this serum. It’s my first time using any type of hydrating serum. I’m using it along with the moisturizer under my primer and foundation every morning and at night after I wash my face. I have noticed a dramatic difference in the way my face looks. It no longer looks as dry. I really like this serum so far. Time will tell if it continues to perform well but so far so good.

I really love this serum.
A bit of background: I’ve got oily, somewhat acne-prone skin. Despite this fact, my skin also has a tendency to get a bit dry over all. It’s a weird situation, and it’s difficult to get a handle on.
This Winter has been particularly hard on my skin due to rapid weather changes. One day it’s 56 degrees and raining. Two days later it’s 17 degrees and dry as a bone. My skin hasn’t reacted well to this. My normal moisturizer hasn’t been hefty enough to keep my skin from feeling parched.
I decided to give the Soothing Serum from E.L.F. a try, since I’m a huge fan of many of their makeup products. And I absolutely love it.
I do a full cleanse of my face in the morning, and at night, I use the Simple exfoliating wipes. (I don’t do a full face of makeup every day.) After cleansing, I apply this serum using one full pump for my face and one pump for my neck. Rather than rubbing it into my skin, I like to press it in. After it’s sunk in, I apply moisturizer. During the day, I use a lighter moisturizer with SPF by Andalou Naturals, and at night, I use a night cream by Sukin. I’ve found over the past week that my skin has felt consistently more hydrated and doesn’t lose moisture as the day/night progresses. The texture of my skin has been softer and more even. I also haven’t broken out from this serum at all, which is something of a miracle, as every other serum I’ve used in the past has broken me out into cystic acne.
The packaging of this serum is gorgeous and sturdy. It feels quite high-end. And for $12, you are getting quite a lot of product, so it’s a fantastic deal.
I’ll definitely be repurchasing, as my husband and I both enjoy using this serum. I’ll also be exploring other options from the E.L.F. skincare range.

I’ve been using this under my moisterizer for several weeks now. I really don’t see a difference. Upon applying, my face gets red. I’ve also had some pimples pop up. I have very sensitive skin, and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone else with ultra sensitive skin. I spent about $12 on this. I don’t think it’s worth it.

I’ve been using this under my night cream for about 3 weeks, and I haven’t noticed much of a difference in my skin. When I wake up and wash my face, my skin is slightly less oily and stays less oily than normal for some reason. I had no breakouts.
It takes 2-3 pumps to fully apply to face (because it gets absorbed too quickly before you can fully spread it out on your face), which is a lot considering how little product you get. The serum does not have a strong sent. It has a slight wood pulpy scent in my opinion though. Also, sometimes when you use the pump, it gets jammed.
I got this serum when Elf did that 3 skin products for $10 sale, so I don’t regret it, but I wouldn’t spend the $12 on this mediocre serum… At best this serum is worth $3.

This product is $12 available only on the elf website. I was looking for a hydrating serum because my moisturizer and night cream (olay age defying protective renewal spf 15 and she defying classic night cream) weren’t moisturizing enough on their own for the winter weather here in Canada. As it turns out they pair amazingly with this serum. My skin is unbelievably smooth and flawless. My acne has disappeared, and the flakes I had before are gone as well. The scarring I had is also going away. My skin is just perfectly hydrated and nourished without being overly oily. This is the most I’d ever spend on a face product, and it is a bit inconvenient since it takes time to get it shipped to Canada. It’s still one of the most complete serums for the price around. Beautiful packaging too.
