It has some good points. I have very sensitive skin and it didn’t bother me at all except for the heavy rosewater fragrance. I avoid fragrance in all my skin care products because fragrance can be an irritant and my skin is already fussy enough. So now any scent near my nose is going to be noticed. This smelled like strong perfume to me.
Retinol Intense isn’t intense, in my opinion. I have actually had the real stuff, Retin-A Micro Gel, which is a very strong prescription topical that works.
On the cosmetics side, I’ve had good results from the retinol products in the Paula’s Choice line which are less expensive than this and gave me faster results.
I appreciate that this lotion doesn’t cause any tingling or burning and has a pleasant, non-greasy texture. That’s worth a couple of lippies. But I really can’t justify spending $110 on this since I can find comparable products I like better for a much lower price. And the overpowering rose scent is just too much for me.
I am willing to splurge on Chantecaille’s compact powder foundation because it’s an exceptional product. But when it comes to Retinol Intense, I’ll save my money.

Soothing, effective and gentle are all words I’d use to describe this night cream. I’ve had bad experiences with Retinol products in the past, so I had my fingers crossed. Fortunately, this cream is actually soothing. I alternate this with Creme de la Mer and La Prairie Caviar Luxe as my night creams, and am happily surprised by how dewy and supple my skin feels after application and in the morning. Very few night creams achieve that. I’ve noticed a gradual reduction in the appearance of fine lines, particularly around my eyes/upper cheeks. I plan on alternating this cream with my other creams.

This is Okay, not great. Typical smell, feel and consistency of Chantecaille products.I personally think it is not as effective as the Retinol prodcuts from the drugstore brands such as RoC or Affirm. I would apply RoC night crewam, wait for 20 minutes and then apply some moisturizer on top. Works way better in terms of diminishing fine lines.

Actually, I loved this product and for some reason I stopped using it. But as the other reviewer said, it does lose its effectiveness after time. But I am ready to head back to Barney’s to get more. It is mild and it does work for my skin. I need something to exfoliate and this is the stuff. I have been using Kate Somerville, but I wake up dehydrated and am not so certain it is the best. I may be going back to Private Nurse by Cosmedicine.

I had the same exact reaction to this product as Sasha. I have very sensitive, acne prone, combination skin. I wasn’t able to use Retin A because of my skin sensitivity. My skin looks so much better. It does not irritate my skin at all, I have no pimples, and it has improved the texture so much. I wish I had discovered this product years ago.

I have to be very careful of retinol products because of my stupid rosacea and super sensitive skin; most retinol products I’ve tried make my skin rashy, bumpy and red. So I tried this product very cautiously. After 1 night my skin looked noticeably better–some redness from past bumps had diminished and my scar from a previous surgery was flatter and less noticeable. But I did feel a little irritated so I will have to be judicious with applying giving my skin a lot of down time between applications. I am happy that this is a mild preparation and have used this successfully 1-2 times a week. Yeah, the effects are not WOW-fast but every little bit helps. Price on this is another ouch!! but I’ve accepted that fact. The pump is great so I do feel like I’m getting my money’s worth but if you’re looking for immediate, incredible results and you have a lot of flaws to improve try another retinol product as this will probably be too gentle.

When I was talked into purchasing Chantecaille’s Vital Essence the SA gave me some generous samples of Retinol Intense. I thought the samples were fantastic as you only need a tiny amount for the entire face, and it seemed to help lighten some marks left behind by blemishes, as well as being wonderfully moisturizing as a night cream. I decided to purchase a full bottle shortly after and the results were similarly pleasing. However, as with all retinol products, the effectiveness declines with usage as your skin begins to tolerate it more, and you require stronger concentrations of retinol (the name says ‘Intense’ but it’s actually quite a gentle product compared to most retinol products on the market). Well, I gave my skin a break after 1/2 a bottle, and returned to it a few months later with wonderful results. I’ve finished the bottle and am giving my skin another break before repurchasing. It comes in a translucent white pump bottle which is very sanitary and looks glam.

I’ve used up 2 generous samples of this product. I love the smell of Chantecaille skincare, and previously I have liked their Flower Harmonising Cream and the cleansing milk. I was a little concerned that this is described as a retinol product because my skin is sensitive to those. I’m glad to say that I have had no irritation whatsoever from this product. Personally I did not notice any “treatment” effects though. It was just a pleasant moisturiser, that’s all. I might buy this to use as a night cream (just in case it does actually do something when used long term…) but I refuse to pay such a ridiculous price, they can talk about their precious flower extracts until they are blue – it is still a rip off for that money.

Me: 22, combination skin, prone to blackheads, break out once a week or so.
My Mom: 41, combination skin, prone to whiteheads, break outs around menstruation cycle, has some fine lines and wrinkles.
I can’t believe that anyone would not like this product. I’ve been using this for the past three weeks, and my skin always feels so soft, smooth, and tighter in a good way. I took off one lippie for the smell, because to me it has that “old lady” smell. But it did make my skin look and feel amazing.
My mom has been using it with me this whole time, and on her she said the same exact thing as me. Her skin got tighter, more moisturized and it made her feel silky and smooth.
We would both definitely re-purchase this item.

Chantecaille’s skin care is very hit-or-miss for me. This one, unfortunately, is a “miss”. I had a generous sample of “Retinol Intense in Micro Marine Spheres”. It is a fairly rich white cream that is fragranced similarly to some of the other Chantecaille products — sort of a floral? Those who have tried the Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask can probably give a better description of the smell. In a nutshell, it’s pleasant and not overwhelming. At first, I was pleased to see how soft my skin was in the morning, but then I noticed that my skin was reacting to it in a slightly new way (sigh)….little red bumps that look sort of like pimples, but redder, smaller, and almost like little blisters. Yuck. My little skin reaction cleared up in a few days (once I stopped using the Retinol Intense).
