Another product I wanted to like….but it didn’t do anything. There wasn’t even the slightest brightening of the skin. I would assume after an entire container of this, I should have noted even a slight difference. I’ve been trying a few Paula Choice’s products, but am really not impressed. She spends a lot of energy cutting down other lines…..am not sure why because I use & love several products she negatively critiques.

I received a full size version of PC Brightening Essence as a gift with purchase. It looks really good on paper, with clinically proven ingredients such as niacinamide and vitamin C, both of which are known for enhancing brightness. However, there is no way to know if the amount of those ingredients is at the percentage required to reach clinical effectiveness. PC do not advertise those percentages, presumably due to proprietary formula. The all-in-one approach sure is convenient, but I have found with this and other similar products that including everything plus the kitchen sink sometimes leads to a mediocre product that doesn’t really do what any one of the individual ingredients at clinical levels would achieve.
In practice, when I tried using this product myself, it caused almost instant irritation on face, and within a week, I developed irritation and dermatitis when I used it on my hands. So, regardless if it really does brighten, it doesn’t do much at all if irritation occurs long before the benefits of “regular use” kick in. Plus I truly hate these dropper style bottles that PC keeps putting out. I definitely can’t recommend this product–try a sample or travel size before purchasing.

I was paying over $50 for their peptide serum and then I decided to try this because it has everything in it – peptides, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, Niacinamide, arbutin, etc. etc. etc. When I first tried it, about a year or so ago, it burned my face, but I’ve been using differin so intensely recently that I figured niacinamide won’t hurt me anymore. So now I use this every other day with no burning. I stopped buying the $52 peptide serum. With this “essence” you get a full ounce for $42. I bought it while they had 15% off and free shipping. It’s only been about two weeks and I won’t lie, I have great skin. I’ve been using this brand for over 10 years. I’m glad to add this to my routine.

I’m so glad I didn’t spend money on this because it broke me out terribly. I only had a sample of it which lasted for around 3 applications. I followed with my PC Moisture Boost. I started noticing a breakout on each cheek and on my chin. I usually have clear skin with no breakouts. It also did nothing in terms of brightening. I will not purchase or recommend this product. I’ve also tried the Brightening Mask from PC, which I bought the full size of (I don’t think they even have samples of that). I promptly returned it when I experienced breakouts from that. If you breakout from one of these, chances are you might breakout from the other.

The Paula’s Choice Resist Brightening Essence is a light liquid that absorbs quickly and is chock full of antioxidants. This contains several ingredients to help lighten hyperpigementation such as licorice, vitamin c, and arbutin. I’ve already bought my second bottle as a back up. What I love most is that this is so light it is easy to layer other products over it since I want my skin to have as much antioxidants and moisture as possible. My more detailed review is here:U

One application triggered my seborrheic dermatitis. The same thing happened with PC’s Brightening Treatment. Oddly enough, the Brightening Mask works great for me. I saw no results from one application, but I wouldn’t expect to.
Edit: I found this again recently (apparently, I did not return the product). Since I already know it irritates my facial skin, I decided to use it on my hands, which have been looking dry and discolored lately (I don’t apply sunscreen to my hands on a daily basis, and I’ve reached the age where sun damage is showing on my hands). After applying for a few days, the backs of my hands looked and felt smoother, more even in color, and retained moisture better. Obviously, I won’t repurchase because it’s too expensive to use for just my hands, but I’m loving the results I’m seeing. It’s just too bad that my face is too sensitive for me to use it there.

On my second bottle of this. It definitely brightens my complexion overall as well as lighten dark spots. Some have completely gone away. Formerly I was using PC dark spot eraser and that didn’t work for me – this is excellent. It is a smooth-as-silk liquid that sinks right in. I use it after my BHA application. For those who are not happy I say please give it time – at least a month. Realistically nothing can work faster than that.

Meh, fairly unremarkable at making any difference. Didn’t do any damage but it just did absolutely nothing. Sinks in well, no rolling/balling. I guess there is nothing more to say, other than stick with 20% vitamin C and spf!

Pc resist brightening essence:
I had the sample it felt like a thin watery gel ,and is hard to spread over the face evenly. It dried very quickly and felt non existent–good for oily skin types.
It has some ingredients which can possibly lighten the skin: Arbutin, Uva-ursi, vitamin C, and licorice root extract.
Arbutin is the 4th ingredient as a skin lightener. The others are in lesser concentrations.
SII include: hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate and glycerin.
Antioxidants and SCC include vitamin C
adenosine and niacinimide, with allantoin as an AI.
This may lighten some sun spots and brighten the skin but I think her line contains products that
do a better job with faster and longer lasting results such as her: niacinimide booster, resist triple action dark spot erasor and 7% AHA,& her C15 serum. If you do not wish to shop with her brand for some reason I can recommend one of my personal favorites which is ‘Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum’.
Remember to use with a BS SS with an SPFof 30 or above for optimal results
