I had high hopes for this Bc of the good reviews on it & that Paula lady recommended it for oily skin control & it was advertised as being used on television ???? on American idol I personally have very oily skin & it’s out of control greasy in the summer time ????& stupid Clinique discontinued their t zone shine control which was a great ???? product to absorb the grease ! & I’ve been trying to find a decent alternative to my Clinique! & so I bought this stuff hoping it would be good, but unfortunately it didn’t work for my oily skin ????! & I tried it like 3 x the first time was last year during the heat of the summer & it didn’t do a thing! & it felt like it made my face oiler! ????In fact it feels like a lotion going on & doesn’t dry down matte like the Clinique oil control did ????????! & the second time I used it was during the cold of winter ❄️ & it did seem to work ok but I think Bc my skin was drier than & recently I tried it again & I don’t like it bc it feels heavy on my face & doesn’t control the oil under my powder foundation ????????! What a waste of money! Unless you have only slightly oily skin it might work but for truly oily skin this won’t work! It didn’t work on me ????????

I know that everyone has different experiences with products and what works for one person may not work for the next, but this stuff is HG for me. Before my dermatologist recommended this to me I had wasted thousands of dollars on primers and foundations meant to keep you matte. I had tried them all…Becca, Dr. Brandt, Hourglass, TooFaced, Exuvience, Tarte, SmashBox, BE, Urban Decay, MUFE, Benefit, MAC, Laura Mercier, too many to name! I’d even gone as far as painting milk of magnesia on my face before foundation because I heard that this would create a barrier that would stop oil break through. It didn’t.
When my doc recommended this, I really didn’t have high hopes. I was using the Becca, Dr. Brandt and Hourglass Primers together and staying matte for about 2 hours..which is pretty huge for me. I figured I really didn’t have much to lose by trying OC8. I’m shocked. I’m amazed. I’m THRILLED! Right off the bat, my skin looked like…SKIN! It never felt dry or tight, once my makeup was on, it never once look caked at all. I looked natural and my makeup wore beautifully throughout the day. I’ve been using this stuff for over 2 months now and I stay matte for over 8 hours with no blotting. What happens after 8 hours? I’m slightly dewy, glowy even, but not oily in the least. I am so happy to kiss all those high dollar primers goodbye for good! I was using $133 just in primer! Never again! This will be in my arsenal forever. I will buy this again and again!

I have extremely oil skin and my dermatologist recommended this to help keep me shine free. Unfortunately it didn’t do a thing. This mattified my face for all of 30 min. Definitely not the 8 hrs claimed on the package. So yet another useless product that did nothing to help control my oil face.

I bought this product for the first time around 5 years ago at Boots in the UK and have been loyal ever since. I cannot understand why it’s not sold in shops – I buy it off the UK amazon for GBP10/tube.
My skin is oily and without it I’m all shiny within 1-3 hours (depending on make-up). If I use OC8 gel on top of “Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer-Combination/Oily” (sometimes mixed with some Revlon foundation), my face stays matte for at least 6-8 hours. If I use it on its own, it keeps the oil off for even longer! If I put extra foundation and/or powder on top, it’s usually closer to 4-5 but it never gets anywhere as bad as without it.
I also use it as a primer for my eyes – whatever eyeshadow I use (whether cream or powder), it never creases unless it’s really hot and/or humid.
I’ve honestly tried many mattifying products and I always end up going back to OC8. For me it’s THE BEST – the fact that it comes in a tube means I can get every last drop out 🙂
P.S. I’m rather confused by all the negative reviews and the high price many reviewers seem to have paid for it? BTW: I’ve only ever bought/used the white tube version – perhaps the blue-tube product is different?

I posted this review in 2012 – it’s 2017 now and I’m still loving it! Over the last 5 years I’ve tried even more mattifying products, including a number of primers, and absolutely NOTHING compares to OC8. I just hope they won’t stop making it! What I do now is mix it with Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation (more OC8 than foundation) and apply the mix over moisturized skin with a sponge – the result is great and my face stays matte for most of the day.

Don’t waste your money. I bought this at my dermatologist’s office, with high hopes that it will control my oily skin, but was greatly disappointed. I tried using it for a few weeks but have completely stopped and now the bottle is just sitting in my room, what a waste of money. I feel like for the first 10 mins, it controlled the oil and makes my makeup look great, but after about half an hour, my skin was more oily than it normally is without oc eight on.

I really like this product b/c of the way it assists with my makeup application. I put it on when i get out of the shower and wait for it to dry. It has a thicker consistency and you can definitely feel it sitting on your face, which i like b/c it creates a smooth palette to apply your makeup on top of. I find that my makeup looks more even/flawless than if i apply directly to my skin w/o any primer.
I only gave this 3 lippies b/c it is expensive and it doesnt last 8 hours. i would say it lasts about 4. I only use about a dimed sized amount everyday so the tube lasts a long time. Also you have to buy it only, which is inconvenient. i wish the mattifying, oil free look would last longer b/c when i leave the house in the morning my MU looks really good but unfortunately it doesnt last. stilll, this is the best primer/mattifying product i have found. i had bad results with BeneFit stay not stray and Too Faced Primed and Poreless cream primer. i will definitely repurchase until i find a better product.

This gel is totally amazing – for me (well actually for my super oily skin) it works like a dream. I put it on my t-zone every morning (i use it like a day cream) before applaying my powder foundation. The gel keeps my skin from getting oily for about 8hours and it is a good base for make-up (no more running foundation for me :). This is the best mattifyng gel ever and it really helps my acne too. With this stuff my skin is getting cleared up. So i really recommend this for anyone who is trying to fight oily skin. I love this product.
P.S. Remember that if you have very oily skin use only powder foundation after you have applied this gel because it just does not work that great with liquid foundation.

I didn’t notice any difference at all using this product. I was blotting and re-powdering as soon as I would have without using this. I also didn’t find this to be mattifying at all. The company sent me samples, so if you’re thinking of trying this, email them and save yourself some money. The product that I’ve found that works best is PurMinerals oil regulating gel. I find that to be a better mattifyer and lasts longer than OC Eight.

This is probably the best oil control solution I’ve found to date – although its still not perfect its getting quite close. I have ridiculously oily skin, basically an hour after I wash my face in the morning it needs to be powdered already and every hour after that….if I dont, you could probably see yourself in the reflection off my face lol. Anyways, I’ve never had much luck with mattifiers or powders that other people claim work great for oil, but when I got a sample of this stuff (and I had never heard of it before), I tried it and it definitely gave me better results than I’ve ever seen before. I was pretty much oil free for between 3-4 hours on most of my face. I had a little bit of shine on my chin and in the creases around my nose but other than that it was holding up really well. It did not last 8 hours – but throughout the day there was still a reduction of oil on my face even though it was not matte – so with 3 or so blotting intervals through the day I was quite impressed. It also has the qualities of a makeup primer – it made my skin quite smooth and airbrushed looking underneath my makeup.
EDIT: After a few weeks/months of using this its pretty much stopped being effective at all – no noticeable difference on days where I use this to the days that I dont. I guess my skin got used to it and the oils figured out a way to beat it down.

The first time i tried it, it did nothing. Then i started using the Clinique Pore minimizing t-zone shine controller with it, and the two together are pure genius. I have THE oiliest skin EVER! Like a serious grease pot!! But with the combo of these two, i only have to blot once and even then like barely anything comes off! Amazing!! I put both on before and after my makeup and it works wonders.
