I’ve been struggling for years to deal with patches of melasma. Due to my Asian ethnicity, I am limited to using certain products
Downside is, the cost and also the peeling. I was prepared for both if Nu derm but in truth it didn’t for me. It lightened some parts of the melasma, but after 4.5 months the melasma is still visible.
I took trouble to visit two Skn clinics (beyond useless staff) but the instructions were contradictory and basic. I learned more information online and the most important criteria is if you are a person of a colour, be careful of hypopigmentation (threading/waxing facial hair is to be avoided) with this product, it can happen. Also with any hydroquinone based product you should not use it on an ongoing basis, you use for 3-4 months, then take a break for 3-4 months and repeat, this stops ochronosis (where the skin suddenly starts darkening)

This is amazing. I’m half Jamaican and half Scottish. I had!! Severe hyperpigmentation/Melasma. I have never wrote a product review before but I’m so impressed I’ve had to write one. I’m day 15 on nu derm, my hyperpigmentation has disappeared 90%. I’m using with obagi Retin A .05. I’ve just had to call to bring my follow up appointment forward as it’s working that fast. Peeling has settled down a lot now. I still peel but it’s hardly noticeable. Fantastic product

This system really does work. My skin was so dull and heavily ruined with dark marks. My skin is so clear now that I don’t need much makeup, I can get away with just a mineral powder or some concealer and powder when I want a more glamorous look! I feel so much more comfortable now that I’m no embarrassed to be seen without makeup. It took me about 1 year to get the results as you can’t use hydroquinone for any longer than 3-4 months. It’s best to use under a dermatologist guidance. I’m so happpy, give it it try ladies! You won’t regret it.

I am into the 13th year of using the Obagi NuDerm skin care line. I have not been tempted to try another line since I started using Obagi. That is significant as I like to keep up and try new things. I started using it shortly after turning 50. I was told that my skin would react strongly and would take about 18 weeks to settle down and it was close to that. I was told to power through the rough times and I am glad that I did. I wish that I had taken a before picture. I have fair skin and loved the look of a tan for many years. My face is smooth and I do not have the freckles and age spots that I have on my chest, arms, and legs. I feel that the lines that I have on my face are much finer than they would have been without Obagi. They might be even less visible if I had been consistent with Retin A in the first few years of using Obagi.

So I’m nearly 31, I have started to see fine lines over the past few years but the main reason I sought out this skincare system is because of my melasma and acne scarring, I truly felt that the makeup I was buying could look much better if it was going onto a better canvas and I’d sought to address that via numerous off the shelf purchases that had yielded zero results.
Here I am then, writing this review. I am 3 weeks into this skincare regime and I must say I am absolutely over the moon with the results. I hope that my review can help you to make up your mind whether it’s something you really want to do so I will put as much information as I can to help you make that decision.
1. Go to a professional, do not buy this off the internet! A fair few of this products are prescription products, you NEED the advice of a professional when using this regimen. Not only that but you could end up with counterfeit products or out of date products so if you’re going to do this, do it properly.
2. It’s expensive, there is no denying it and I dare say many offices where this is sold hike the price even more, but when i compare it to the skincare that I have spent money on and received no results for then it at least reminds me of a bit of perspective. Nobody NEEDS to spend this much on skincare, but if it’s something you want to do then it does require investment.
3. It isn’t pretty for the first few weeks. I think I have been lucky in that all my flaking and peeling happened in the first 2 weeks of my regime. I am using 0.05% Tretinoin every night with hydroquinone and then during the day I use exfoliant and hydroquinone. You flake, peel and feel terrible about yourself. I found that even trying to apply makeup was a waste of time, it made me look worse. Be patient and call your professional for guidance if you are struggling with the side effects, this is a harsh regimen for sure but have faith!!
4. Sunblock is going to be your best friend from now on…use it every_single_day.
So now I’ve preached to you, what about my results? Well, I had melasma around my eyes and oh deary me did that look tragic – it made me look like I had huge brown semi circles under my eyes that traced the natural creases that occur when i smile. I got told i was looking tired all the time and I noticed sun damage and scarring/bad texture on my skin generally just had my makeup looking less than great. Everything looked muddy. On Friday i’m going for my 3 week checkup and I can already see the enormous difference that this regime has made – it really is no joke that this is a miraculous skincare system, my melasma is significantly faded and my skin looks more smooth and pearly.
I won’t go so far as to say I have model perfect skin, but seriously I *feel* like I do. The difference it makes when you have smooth clear skin is amazing. I barely need any foundation at all anymore, just a touch here and there. I don’t wear moisturiser anymore either (part of the regime) and if I continue looking as dewy and fresh as this then I won’t need to either. I knew wearing sunscreen was important, but seeing the damage of hormones and sun being undone has made it all the more clear just HOW important sunscreen is on a daily basis.
Keep skin in tip top beautiful shape is difficult as a woman…we all know that, but this regimen has honestly made the most enormous difference to me. It cost £300 for the set that I purchased to start off on Nu derm – really really pricey but honestly so worth it.
If you have any questions just drop me a line and I’ll try to answer them, thumbs up from me though!

Writing this review is totally bitter/sweet for me. I have been hearing about Obagi’s Nu derm system for years. I have used so many different products on the market and nothing seemed to help with my oily, acne prone skin. I was getting to a point of just giving up. I decided to try the Nu Derm system per some recommendations and I went into it very hopeful. I bought the product online and spent about $300 on the whole system. Keep in mind you NEED the retina as part of the system and you can only get retina with a prescription.
The whole system is very tedious to use, with many steps, but I knew if I was really committed then I would just have to go through with the whole system. I used this system for close to 2 months, While, I notice some improvement in my skin, mostly the texture and some of the spots had cleared, I did not see any MAJOR results I thought I would see.
The system is very expensive, time consuming, hence the reason why I stopped. If I noticed more results I would for sure keep using it, but I didn’t. Not to mention, that my skin was peeling all day everyday for about 2 months. It looked like I had some flesh eating disease. There was no amount of makeup that could cover that kind of dryness. I knew this was one of the effects, but I was also told it would decrease within a few weeks, but sure enough it didn’t.
To make a very long review even longer… I would recommend you save your money and instead purchase the Obagi C-serum. My skin was never so bad that I would need retina along with all these Nu derm steps. I was just looking for something to clear the surface of my skin a bit and give me a better complexion, which the C-serum has helped with a lot!
Overall, may be a good product to stick with for a year or so to really see results, but for those of us who are working with a budget this stuff is just not worth it :-/

I just recently purchased the Obagi Nu Derm system (I use .05 RetinA) and I am a true believer!! I am on week 2.5 and the transformation so far has been unbelievable. Yes, it is true, your face will turn a bright red and flake like crazy. I almost threw in the towel after a week. My face was soooo red and my skin looked very dry, especially around my eyes and around my mouth. The areas on my cheek bones looked disgusting–leathery! I felt as if my face had aged dramatically and I was so nervous that it was going to be permanent, so I started combing the web looking for answers. Seems this is the natural process, so I decided to suffer through it. I read that you’re not suppose to “help” the flaking/peeling process, but I couldn’t stand it, so I decided to scrub my face in the shower on day 8. If you decide to do this be GENTLE bc I literally scubbed off few areas of my face. (your skin is so delicate at this point and I didn’t realize it, or should I say didn’t care bc I just wanted the leather off!)
I still exfoliate every morning in the shower, but lightly and gently and I moisturizer in the mornings only. This has helped me tremendously w/the flaking. I use the Clarsonic at night and do not moisturizer, so in the morning you can only imagine the flakes. Around the 2 week mark, I noticed my skin is no longer bright red. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still flushed looking, but it looks healthy and the hyper pigmentation is gone!! I’m now at the 2.5 week mark and I love my skin!! I really don’t need anything, but a light dusting of powder to combat the skin. Definitely in it for the long haul. Keep at it and don’t quit, I believe the end results will be amazing!

I just turned 30 and am acne prone with lots of discoloration from old acne. I finally went into my local spa and my facialist recommended this system to me. IT IS AMAZING!! So this system comes with a bunch of products for day and night that even skin tone, fight wrinkles, and acne. It is expensive but seriously worth it because it’s active ingredients show actual results. Before this I had tried those spot removing products by Lancome and other brands with no results. It is because their % of active ingredients is so low it doesn’t do much.
So this system overall works to drastically increase your skin cell turnover. This makes it harder for acne to form ( acne is when your skin gets clogged, so this system works to make your skin renew so fast that acne can’t form) It comes with a skin bleach cream that totally evens skin tone, the exfoderm forte cream has good acids in it to exfoliate your skin, and the retin a that you blend with their cream for night time fights the acne and wrinkles.
Retin a can be harsh for some people but you have to know just to hang in there. it causes redness and some peeling at first but then your skin gets used to it and it stops. My facialist recommended that I ease into using the retin a so that it wouldn’t cause those things and that worked well. You can purchase the real products on one Canadian website that I found and I can gurantee that it is the real thing.
The only thing you will need to get somewhere else is the tube of retin a. Look up a spa in your area that caries it, or go to a dermatologist.
The only thing that I have changed from the system is that I now use the Eve Lom cleanser instead of their foaming cleanser for acne. This has cleared up my acne even more because it is an oil based cleanser and isn’t so harsh on the skin. Now my dry patches are gone and my oily spots are less oily. It has removed all my blackheads.
This system is amazing because it’s products are strong enough and the % of ingredients are high enough to produce results. I got my mom on it and she loves it as well. Her sun spots on her face have faded away almost completely, and her skin tone is brighter, and wrinkles reduced. Instead of trying a bunch of other products try this system!!

I will start off saying that I’m only 25 and all through highschool I tanned. I was always told to slow down and I wish I did because now I have uneven skin tone and brown spots that I hate! I probably notice them more than anyone else but isn’t that always how it is. I feel my brown spots could even be melasma because of how they are displayed on my skin. I have tried laser treatment, microdermabrasion, over the counter skin lighteners and I never saw a good improvement in my brown spots. Anyways…I would highly recommend Obagi Nu-Derm!!!! For once I’ve seen some major improvement! At last! Yay! I bought the travel size through a licensed skin care provided which was $250.00 and is quite pricey however it was worth it to me. I wouldn’t buy this product online because you don’t know if you are 100% getting the real product. I’ve been using this product for about a month. Of course I was skeptical if I would even see improvement in my brown spots however I have seen great improvement in this short period of time and my over all skin apperance is more even. I have really oily skin so my face never got extreamly dry. Nothing a good face lotion couldn’t take care of. I even use the highest Retin A percentage. Follow all steps and make sure you use the Retin A 🙂 I’m sure you could use a regular face wash and toner.. and I might do that next time around. Anyways if you have brown spots that make your skin look uneven I would really really recommend this product! I hope I continue to see an overall improvement in my skin. I love even, bright, and radiant looking skin so this product is for me 🙂 I will write another review once I’ve been using Obagi longer.

I started using the Obagi NuDerm system a little over a month ago and I hate to gush but like others have said here, it is quite miraculous. I decided to start using it on my fair combination skin thinking it would initially aggravate my rosacea, but felt it would be worth it in the long run if it minimized pores and fine lines, and helped fade dark spots and old acne scars.
I watched a lot of YouTubes and read a lot of blogs about the Obagi system before shelling out the big price, but worried that the photos might be doctored. Based on my experience they are not. My pores are smaller, fine lines are lessened, my skin tone is evening out and even my rosacea is better after only a few weeks.
My own experience has echoed that of other MUA reviewers. I have gone to ever sheerer make ups as my skin needs less and less covering. When I run out of the starter kit products I will likewise probably go to similar products from other brands for several of the items, but will definitely keep purchasing the Obagi Blender, Clear and Exfoderm.
I thought about taking one lippie off for the presence of parabens and high price, but overall I would have paid much more for these results. I will definitely repurchase.
