Grease Lightning is an incredible product. I am so happy I have found something natural to help with my breakouts. This is a little miracle-worker and I wish I had discovered it years ago. I used to use Benzyl Peroxide on my pimples, but last time I used it, it burnt my face terribly and now I can’t bear to touch it again. However, I don’t suffer from acne, but do get the occasional breakout which I would like to clear up. As I have been a long time fan of Lush’s skincare I decided to give Grease Lightning a go. I simply apply a very small amount to my breakouts, give it a few seconds to set, then apply the rest of my skincare and makeup on top. I can feel the results immediately – it starts to dry out the affected area but without drying out or irritating the surrounding skin. It doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable or dry. When I put this on at night, by the time I wake up in the morning my pimples are gone or very visibly reduced. It really is unlike any product I have used before. The bottle is extremely well priced, especially as you only need such a little at a time. It has a jelly-like texture. You only need to use half a pump maximum in my experience, and I like that it does come in a pump bottle as it keeps the product hygienic. It sits nicely under the rest of my skincare and makeup. I will now use this whenever I have breakouts, and will recommend it to everyone. This is definitely one of my top 10 favourite Lush products (and that is saying something!). If you struggle with breakouts, I highly recommend you try this product out!

I adore this product. I was on vacation and breaking out horribly, I was freaking out cause I had nothing to spot treat and my friend let me borrow this. Overnight my breakout reduced (no completely gone, it ain’t a miracle). I looked into it and saw that all the ingredients which was a huge plus. I have naturally dry skin but also horrible acne. This means when I use heavily medicated face items or things with alcohol in them my acne may go away, but peeling skin is left in its place. With this I only have drying in my biggest drying spots (side of my nose, around my mouth), or where I may have applied too much. I just have to remember to do my moisturizer if routine with it (which you should never skip anyways!)

hmm. I’m on the fence with this one.
it’s good for a quick fix – if I have a few spots scattered across my face or wtv. I don’t use it every day tho, and I’m still wary over the fact that they put perfume in this (why,,,lush,,,why)
I think I’ll go back to the body shop’s tea tree spot corrector after I’m finished w this bottle.

I am beyond dissatisfied with this product. Up until I started using it 2 weeks ago, I was recovering from major breakouts. I purchased this product because I wanted to get rid of the minor blemishes left over but all this did was make things worse. Instead of getting rid of my acne, it aggravated it and now I have major breakouts on areas I applied the product. I would not recommend this to anyone, especially not to anyone else with acne-prone skin.

Terrible product. Purchased it for grease control and ended up breaking out in a rash. Let my face rest, tried it again two days later and it gave me a terrible itchy rash on my face. Horrified!

I’m really surprised by all of the sub-par reviews for this product, because I’ve been using it for months and have only had good results. Historically, I’ve had overwhelmingly terrible cystic acne, that could basically be controlled by nothing. I found that Lush’s Herbalism did really well at managing my breakouts, but because I was still having some lingering cysts I added their tea tree water to my daily facial routine. Since that continued to help I decided to try grease lightning since it has a higher concentration of tea tree oil, and I found that it was what my skin really needed! I never found much success using it as a spot treatment, actually, but I like to take one or two pumps and spread it all over my face before I moisturize and head to bed. While it does have a tightening effect that other reviewers have mentioned, I don’t attribute this to it dehydrating your skin, but rather to the carrageenan extract, which is derived from seaweed and therefore shrinks up when it dries. So I don’t think it’s accurate to say that this product is necessarily ‘drying.’ I’ve never tried this under makeup, but as long as I spread a thin layer over my face I never experience any flaking of the product. When I apply it liberally to spots, however, I notice that once it dries it flakes off.
Bottom line, give it a try. Lush has a good return policy, and it seems that with a lot of their products you either love it or hate it. For many people, their skin responds really well to tea tree oil; for others, it can make things worse. Just keep experimenting and you might find something you love!

I’m on the fence about this product. Whilst it does seem to minimise breakouts with the first couple of applications, if I continue to use it throughout the week it actually ends up causing more even more acne, presumably due to the carrageenan extract which is highly comedogenic. I tend to find myself reaching for this when a spot has become very inflamed and infected and I need a quick fix, but I wouldn’t recommend this as a long-term treatment. It’s also worth mentioning that this does dry out the skin which can exacerbate red marks, so make sure to apply moisturiser on top of it.
ETA I forgot to note that the packaging is absolutely horrendous! The pump either brings up nothing at all or everything at once, making the process of using it incredibly frustrating and laborious.

I really wanted to like this but it made my acne worse and irritated the heck out of it. I went to bed with it in 4 nights in a row, no good results just worsened and it caused more around where i was putting it so it spreaded and fast! But lush was good to exchange it. I love lush but this product did not do good things for me. If you do end up getting it apply it with a q-tip and only to one blemish to see if it works for you.

Horrible – makes your face feel super tight – I’ve used spot treatments before that did not have the same effects but worked 10x better
Tried applying it on a pimple on my cheek – aggravated it so much it grew in size significantly by the next morning – now i’m left with a huge scar.
OH also, this does nothing for hormonal acne
Overall very disappointed
Lush products in general are so overhyped when in actuality their products are honestly sub-par.

It was pretty affordably priced and decided to give it a go after seeing great reviews online and from recommendation by the SA since I was looking for a spot treatment for my occasional pimple. Found this quite disappointing as a spot treatment, didn’t seem to help with making the spots smaller, and definitely didn’t make any disappear overnight like what I read in reviews (ok maybe i was too gullible haha) but it doesn’t seem to help too much over the days too. Pimples from a week ago are still reddish and inflamed right now but at least smaller, and I have been applying everyday as a spot treatment (super thick drip of it and left to dry, since the product dispenses too much anyway), sometimes twice a day if I remember to.
Pretty disappointed in this, but maybe I’ll try another way of using it (SA told me it works as a spot treatment better than all over the face but maybe I’ll give it a try all over as a ‘prevention is better than cure’ or something?!?!?) There’s quite a lot of product and the shelf life is like a year, plus I like the smell so I’d be okay with it applied on my entire face.
