A Very expensive product for a Very few Results…

I just completed my entire bottle of this serum and for the price I was hoping for so much more. First the bottle is elegant and heavy, beautifully designed, and a great way to apply the product with the dropper applicator. My skin did glow at the beginning of my usage, which was twice daily morning and night, but as time wore on it seemed to lose its effectiveness. I’ve been pairing this with Estee Lauder’s Re-Nutriv Age-Controlling cream at night and Daywear Plus cream for days. Anyway this is a luxious treat that I will not repurchase when Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair seems to give better results.

Genaissance is the latest serum from La Mer. It was introduced in October ’15 and for a few weeks it will be exclusive at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. While I really like the La Mer Creme for my dry skin I have not been too impressed with any of their serum offerings to date. I received this serum which comes in a posh gold pipette bottle – see uploaded pic – as a gift and that’s especially good in this case because its price is truly outrageous. I have used it for a little over a week so obviously I cannot comment on any anti-aging miracles just yet. So far I can say that I am quite pleased with it for several reasons. Its formulation is really rich and soothing, and my dry skin absorbs it quickly and it feels calming and soothing. It feels richer than ANR. Thankfully, there is no sticky residue and it’s a great complement to the Creme which I use following this serum. In the morning my skin looks plump and radiant. To be fair, my skin also looks good when I use Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (ANR) which sells for a fraction of the price of Genaissance. In fact, the company Estée Lauder, which markets both serums, makes the math shockingly easy: 1 oz ANR is $62 and 1 oz. of Genaissance is $620. Is Genaissance *ten* times better than ANR? Only time will tell. I will update this review, adjust the rating if needed and possibly even indicate that I will rebuy (gasp, poor wallet!) once I have finished my bottle. Solid 4 stars for now.
Update 06/16:
After finishing the bottle of this serum I still like it, but not enough to spend that kind of money. I went back to ANR which gives me very similar, if not the same, results in terms of hydration and glow.

I received a half bottle of this new “serum essence” as a gift from a VERY good neighbor and friend (she split hers with me) who knows what a skin care junkie I am (I’ve shared a lot of high end stuff with her and she knows I am on a “no-buy” right now). This anti-aging serum essence was invented when a scientist at the La Mer Max Huber Research Labs discovered crystals forming in a beaker of Huber’s famous Miracle Broth™ which is the basis of the La Mer line. Claims include the crystals’ incredible purity of ingredients and a slow-crafted process made in extremely small batches to reach its ultimate potency. This new broth claims to help renew skin from within and that “In moments, genesis begins. “I have used it for about a month (alternating and layering with other serums). It’s definitely a very nice product and feels smoothing, soothing and hydrating on my dry skin but I don’t see any “renewal.” My friend is a HUGE LaMer fan and she loves this stuff totally!!!!!! In general I am not a La Mer devotee although I have tried many of their products over the years and think it’s a good line (I just like other brands more). I think this product is too pricey at $620 for 1oz, but who I am I to say? I’ve literally spent thousands on other brands which is why I am on a no buy now (and it’s brutal)! What a totally wonderful, thoughtful gift from a totally wonderful friend! Thanks Karen!
