I’m still on the search for a decent La Mer face product and I can say with confidence this is not it! The previous reviewer summed it up perfectly i.e ‘SILICONES’. They seem to be the bane of my skin’s life at the moment, but despite knowing that they are in this I had to give it a try. Conversely I didn’t find it oily despite having oily skin and totally love the packaging of the full size bottle…everytime I pass the La Mer counter I have to stop and take another look!
So firstly I only used a small sample size of this and luckily did not splash out on the full size. It’s very perfumed and I started to develop bumps within 4-5 days of continuous usage (and I was only using 2-3 drops on a night). Perhaps for those with drier skin types this is worth investing in (and if your skin can tolerate silicones) but for someone with sensitive skin such as myself it’s a definite no-no! I haven’t completely given up on this brand as I do love their hand treatment and lip balm, although I feel they’re highly overpriced for what they are, but when it comes to their face products I’m not overly impressed so far. I do have a few more samples so will trial them and review soon as I get a chance. In the meantime all I can say is invest in a sample size if unsure. If you can’t get them from a store you can get them from e-bay marketplace and you won’t be too out of pocket if things head south!

(I’ve sampled 100s of skin, hair and m/u products over the last decade and a half, as I love trying out new stuff all the time – usually sample sizes via e-bay, also plenty courtesy of a friend who works at Sephora. Thought it might be useful to share my top 10 must-have products, subject to change if and when I come across something more effective)

The newest addition (autumn 2017) to the Genaissance range.
It is a very fluid white emulsion that is visibly separate in the bottle and requires gentle shaking before application.
It is based mainly on silicone fluids (and its products) and a volatile hydrocarbon that can give a better more moisturizing feel than a volatile silicone fluid would. It has some very good humectants, although in lower amount, and a very impressive array of actives.
It contains the Miracle Broth (about 1%) that La Mer calls in the Genaissance range as Crystal Miracle Broth. (Marketed as “Slow-crafted in extremely small batches, Crystal Miracle Broth supports skin’s natural renewal as never before. Soothed, energized and awakened, skin looks appears flooded with radiance.”) According to the La Mer website the formula contains several other ferments also.
However this, in my opinion, will not qualify for an extreme high retail price. There is no research either behind that this so called Crystal Miracle Broth has miraculous effects on human skin. (ELC. hold several patents concerning fermented extracts and their potential compared to the same extracts without fermentation.)
This is a product that would be the step before application of a moisturizer and after the application of treatment lotion and serum in the Japanese skin care routine. In the West this is sold as a treatment lotion. However applying this right after cleansing before a serum (and/or treatment lotion) would create an oilier film on the skin that will prevent the absorption of the water-based serums applied after it.
I find the product too rich/oily however, as an extra step right before a moisturizer. Using it alone instead of a moisturizer, might be worth a try though.
As a Treatment Lotion, I’d much more prefer the La Mer The Treatment Lotion with its watery refreshing consistency.
I also believe that the final product should have been fully emulsified and packaged in a pump bottle for easier application. (I find the packaging particularly bizarre and aesthetically displeasing for the eyes.)
