I’m jumping on the positivity bandwagon too early with this but there’s always time to edit it.
I’d been coveting this oil since Go-To landed in regular access to consumers in Australia via Mecca.
I don’t know why but for me, face oils seem to be the pinnacle of skincare luxury. You have all your creams and lotions and toners and balms but a face oil just seems like pure luxury.
I’ve had my ups and downs trying face oils. Having combo skin, meaning my face was quite normal in condition and texture, but oily in the t-zone, made me steer pretty clear of face oils initually until i read that jojoba oil is somewhat similar to what our skin produces (not the same but still).
The first main one I had tried outside of pure jojoba and rose hip oil as Juno by Sunday Riley, and for the amount of hype that one has drilled out, i was so underwhelmed.
The glossy magazines touted it as a holy grail that would somehow leave your skin supermodel-glowy-angelic and photo shoot ready. But it wasn’t meant to be (long story short it was more of a dry oil that didn’t do much of anything for me).
I’m aware that for most, face oils are more of a layering and booster product. I’m super lucky that I’m pushing 30 and not showing any signs of aging bar some underage circles, but thanks to genetics, a good diet and a good skincare regimen I don’t have any real concerns except preservation.
Oils seem to sit really well on my skin, giving me a lovely dewy bounce I can only replicate with light foundations mixed with illuminating primers etc, so I figured why not work with what I already have? Essentially what I’ve been looking for is less of an “optional” product and more of a powerhouse- something that hydrates my skin, locks in moisture, gives me a good glow and layers well with other products. Sounds a bit farfetched right? Well it has been so far until now, and I’ve had to really work with face oils and other bits and pieces.
I’ve been using face hero as a moisturiser both at night after cleansing and seems, and I don’t layer it with any other moisturiser yet (I’m using about 5 drops for my entire face, but I’d like to see the effects if I mixed it with existing moisturisers), and under eye cream. In the morning I will tone and add this and my eye cream along with concealer for underage, no foundation and am in conjunction with other face products and it manages to make my skin feel like I’ve had a facial all day. The texture of the oil on my skin throughout the day is dewy but not greasy and so fresh and hydrated. I’ve raved on enough so here’s the good and the bad
PROS:
*skincare powerhouse – hydrating, works well with makeup, acts as a barrier and locks in other skincare, layers well
* smells great- like a orange blossom herbal floral but inoffensive scent that dissipates quickly
* accessible online or at Mecca
* glass dropper bottle easy to measure dosage
*cute peachy packaging
CONS
* none so far except maybe price- $45 for 30ml. I’ll have to reevaluate after I see how quickly I get through it

I received a full-sized bottle of this in my most recent Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, and my initial reaction was very positive. The packaging is so cute, and it’s nice packaging, too. The product itself worked well for me. It feels so nice going on. Soaks in nicely, made my skin feel good. I was able to use it under my makeup (I put it on under my moisturizer, after any serums, as they suggested). I used it at night, too. Things were going to well. My skin was looking so nice. After about a week, well, that’s when things went horribly wrong. I am now one week into trying to clear up the worst breakout of acne in my adult life. Seriously, I have never had this many pimples at one time. In places I don’t usually even get them. Both of my cheeks are broken out horribly in many pimples, and that’s not where I normally get them. I have many more on my chin. More on my forehead. In my eyebrows. Between my eyebrows. Above my upper lip. I look ridiculous. It’s so embarrassing. I can get an occasional pimple or two. Not too often anymore. Never anything like this. Not even in puberty. If you try use, use caution.

My face got seriously dry and chapped after some skiing and my usual moisturizer wasn’t doing the job. Found a sample of face oil (which had been discontinued) which worked wonders, so I set out to find something more current to add to my routine. Face Hero works great for me. It soaked into my skin easily and left no oily or greasy residue or sheen and really alleviated the tightness and dryness of my skin. The next morning the dry flaky areas were healed and my skin texture was greatly improved. Also it worked well prior to makeup primer and then BB cream. It has a very faint aroma like geraniums, kinda an old school smell but fleeting. If I have a complaint about this product, it’s that I cannot tell how much is left because the glass bottle is painted opaque. (On the other hand, the opacity minimizes degradation due to sunlight…) I’ll also note that the bottle is sufficiently wide that I’ve not tipped this over at all (which I did with another brand, and oil went spilling across the counter, yikes!).
This is my HG face oil and totally worth the price ($34 for 1oz/30mL). I particularly like that the ingredients list is all naturally derived oils and not a list of chemicals – no mineral oil or petrolatum either.
