I was recommended the Mega Mushroom range by the Origins counter and decided to give it a go. I have been using the Guerlain Orchidee Imperial range and thought i would give this a go as it is so much cheaper. However, after a month of using it, i personally didn’t feel it was anything special. My skin didn’t feel especially smooth and soft and then the deciding factor came when my mother asked me if i had changed my skin care routine recently. When i asked why, she told me my skin was not looking great, in a way only a mother can. So, i have ditched the Mega Mushroom product and gone back to Guerlain’s Orchidee Imperial range. I really was hoping to like this Origins range as Orchidee Imperial is eye-wateringly expensive, but, it was not to be.

As a rosacea sufferer, I appreciate any product that soothes my skin-all the Dr Weil products for Origins seem to be really good for my skin. I have tried everything from La Mer to Olay and I’m now hooked on the redness relief products. No increased redness, no breakouts, no little white bumps.

I bought a full size in the hope for it to calm my sensitive face or at least strengthen my skin. But sorry i didn’t do anything good to my skin besides leaving too strong linger herbal smell.
(Throwback review I used this 5 years ago)

I don’t understand why this serum is so bad while the lotion of the same series is so good!!
I can bear the weird smell of it as I believe it’s herbal.
However, after applying it, my skin tune becomes green! Moreover, I feel very oily and uncomfortable with this on my skin.
The most terrible thing is that after using it, if I wear any foundation, it starts muddy… So terrible. I used one bottle and never bought any more.

If you have a really sensitive nose, or you get put off by weird smells, then be aware that this product does have a hint of mushroom smell.
I personally used it since I got it as a sample, along with other origins products.
This serum made me break out into cystic acne overnight.
I immediately threw away the sample and stopped using the other origins products.

I’m on my second bottle of this stuff. It helps calm redness over time, and I also notice my breakouts heal quicker, and happen less often. I really love this stuff. I don’t mind the smell either. My only issue is it’s hard to get the last of the product out of the bottle since the pump doesn’t reach as far. Also, with the top you can’t exactly stand it upside down so the product comes to the top.

This is sold in the UK as Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum but I’m guessing from the way other people have reviewed this, it’s essentially the same product just under a different name.
It’s safe to say I was suckered in by the assistant at the Orgins counter with this one – she totally sold it to me as a product for very sensitive skin that wouldn’t make me react and was well worth the 46.00GBP price tag for the ‘amazing’ results I would see. Lesson one: don’t believe everything (anything?) the sales assistant tells you!
I’ve been using this for just over a month now and have mixed feelings about it. It’s true this didn’t make my skin react; I’ve not once had any burning, dry, sore or chapped feeling skin whilst using this. And on application it does sink in well, leaving the skin feeling pleasantly smooth. But unfortunately it hasn’t quite delivered the results I was expecting. One of the not-so-welcome ones being just how much oilier this can make my skin if I don’t use just the right amount. Too much and I’m an oil slick, too little and my face is like the Sahara desert. And as for helping to calm and soothe the skin – yeah, I guess it does to a certain degree, but I’ve still got red cheeks which get sore sometimes (although possibly not quite as much since using this) and I’m still trying to work out how this works as an ‘anti-ageing’ product, especially as the website seems to be purposefully vague on this point.
Finally, the scent. Oh, the scent!!! This is definitely a love it or hate it one. I personally hate it. Be warned – it DOES smell of mushrooms, so if you’re not a mushroom fan but want to give this a go, you’d be wise to hold your breath (and keep it held for at least the next 30 minutes) because this stuff lingers. There’s other stuff in there too like turmeric, ginger and holy basil, all of which combine to make a product that can only be described as musty. Think wardrobe stuffed full of old clothes, mixed with stale tobacco smoke and mothballs…
For the price tag I was expecting more, but what I got was a ‘meh’ product. There’s better ones out there on the market to help reduce redness and sooth skin (just take a look at the La Roche Posay range) and they’re cheaper too. Sorry Origins, but you’ve not converted me.

My skin felt a little sticky after I applied this. I was only using it once a day and not twice like recommended. I didn’t feel that it did much for my skin and it was also a hefty $68! The Mushroom cleanser definitely helped with my redness and sensitivity, but not this serum. The smell is okay… but definitely interesting.

I suffered serious acne during my teen period and my skin now is very sensitive and always red. At the first apply, I fell in love with this product’ smell. It’s a little bit greasy with my skin during summer month but I didn’t mind, I used it as my night moisturizer. Then I found out that this serum made my skin irritated if I didn’t combine it with other Origins products (cleanser, toner, mask, etc). It’s still okay, I had an opportunity to try more from Origins. However, they didn’t make any difference on my skin and after around 3 months of using this serum, my face was more red, my pores were more enlarged and if I have hormonal pimples, it made them worse. I stopped using it immediately and then my skin irritated with everything I put on my face. That terrible time lasted about 2 or 3 months and during that time, I couldn’t use any skin care product except cleanser and toner.

Rudolph – that’s my nickname. When i was young I used extremely harsh products on my nose and so it’s been really red and irritated, which is by far my biggest skin problem. It turns red in heat, cold and generally by any stimuli. Using this serum I have seen some improvement (used it for about 3 months) and I’ll continue to use it, hopefully soon with the creme. I definitely recommend it to others with red/sensitive skin, as it is the most effective product I’ve experienced in this category. Deifnitely recommend using the cleanser too!
