I have dry sensitve mature skin. I was using an OTC Retin-a treatment with little effect other than moisturized skin. Curology has evened out the tone in my skin, I dont need to use a color corrector or full foundation coverage on my skin anymore. My skin feels firmer and seems to really absorb moisturizers more deeply, I do get that dewy look with my skin regime now. Fine lines are blurred.

I’ve been using this for 3 months in combination with my Paula’s Choice products and have come to realize that a monthly subscription is just too expensive. I just went to my dermatologist and got a generic brand prescription for 1% Tretinonin which I am now using in replacement of over the counter Differin Gel.
So why the low rating? Well, have you tried canceling your subscription? It’s virtually impossible! Long story short is this – I followed all the prompts to cancel. I was still being charged. I had to file a claim with Citibank Mastercard to get this company to stop charging me, however, I still have to pay for the one month that I thought I canceled! And, they don’t have a phone number and they don’t respond to emails!!!! COMPLETELY ASININE!

I used .1% Tretinoin for a bit many years ago, but that strength was not needed for long. Then I used Refissa 0.05% Tretinoin for about 5 years, nightly. As luck would have it, a couple of years ago my health care plan decided it would no longer cover Tretinoin for me, (my pharmacist joked that “once you’re over 40 they don’t believe you can get acne”…hardyharhar), so I was paying around $125.00 a pop for generic 0.05% Tretinoin Cream. (One tube lasted about 4-5 months. So the price isn’t nearly as awful as it sounds.) About 2 years ago, I let the prescription run out, because of the inconvenience of expensive dermatology visits that my insurance didn’t cover either. I had read someplace that after using Tretinoin for a long time its benefits “capped” and regular use would be a waste. (Maybe that’s old advice? Or merely individualized, and not for me?) For the last 2 years I used OTC retinoids, such as Obagi and NIA24, and BHA or AHA creams. Gradually, I noticed Melasma returning with a vengeance, and my occasional break-out were “occasioning” more and more. Plus, despite claims to the contrary, the OTC retinoids caused the skin around my eyes to get crepey and sting, so I had to avoid that area. While I understand retinol does its work in the deeper layers of skin, when they finally surfaced, the results were minimal,compared to the clarity and firmness I noticed when using Refissa. I was thinking about making a derm. appointment and researching what to tell my doctor to prescribe for me when I came across the Curology website. Dermatological consultations and prescriptions ONLINE! The idea wouldn’t be better if I’d invented it myself!
So I signed up, sent photos, chatted with my PA, and got my prescription of 4% Niacinamide, 2% Azelaic Acid, 0.01% Tretinoin in a granular cream base. My cost is $39.90 every two months!! Although the cream feels almost like a scrub when its applied, I don’t feel the need to use moisturizer with it. I believe the granular feeling comes from the Azelaic Acid, and this does not dry-out or irritate my skin in the least. The first month, I over-applied and used up the bottle in 2 weeks. Oops. The good news is that I didn’t experience an iota of irritation. I was used to applying OTC products, which I now realize I was probably vastly over-applying in attempts to see results. The other good news is that by the end of the two weeks I noticed my skin becoming more even-toned, and the darkness began to fade. So I reordered full-size and my skin gets better all the time.
I tried “the cleanser” and “the moisturizer” as well, but I have not continued to purchase them. They are both VERY basic, and best for sensitive skin. The cleanser is okay for the morning, but it’s no match for sunscreen, makeup, nd grime at the end of the day. The moisturizer is silkly and softening, but it does nothing but add moisture. At my age, I like Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides in my creams, to con me into thinking my skin is still nicely firm and hydrated.
To wash my face at night I use DHC Cleansing oil most of the time, and I also use Noxzema or Dove soap. For daily facial sunscreen I use EltaMD Tinted UVClear spf 46. I switch up my toners between Exuviance Probiotic Lysate Anti-Pollution Essence and Lather Cucumber & Ginseng Facial Mist. For nighttime moisturizers I use Lather Honey Moisture Mask, or CeraVe PM.
