My daughter has been on this for a month along with Doxycycline (100 mg/day) and Sulfaclense.face wash. It was tough going for the first several weeks, with her breakouts getting worse, but now it has cleared up and no new pimples. She had small under the skin clogged pore bumps all over, but a few days ago they started to get fewer and fewer. She also had a lot of redness, which got better soon after starting the medication She did get sun at the beach this week, which helped, but had gotten sun weeks ago with no improvement. Be sure to use sunscreen while on this!!!! I kept reading that you need to stay the course and not give up because it takes time. That has been our experience. My daughter uses a moisturizer night and day too. She just left the house with no makeup!! Happy with the results so far!!! Will post more after another month.

After insurance, this cost me $100. I had clear skin my whole life, then suddenly in my 30’s have gotten hormonal acne.
I have used retinoids from my derm for $5. They work ok, but I just figured out it’s the cause of these small flesh colored bumps on my chin/jawline. Prob bc the pores clogging ingredients. It also left my skin barrier impaired, & I was always dry & itchy. I decided to find something else. This doesn’t irritate my skin. Doesn’t do much of anything, that i can tell. I got a $5 tube of Persa gel that I use at night on spots & it works fantastically! Bummed I wasted $100 on this crap. Mine is a lotion & in a nice pump tube. So maybe it’s different than what everyone else has…
I also love Paula’s choice vitamin c on spots. Doesn’t dry them out like the bp, but shrinks them quickly.

I was prescribed this in combination with Atralin, and I quite like it. Cosmetically, it’s not the most pleasing product – it dries to a gritty white texture. It’s not something you can throw on your zits and run out the door with!
What I do like: it doesn’t dry the skin out and ruin it like BP. It can sting and itch a bit, on particularly juicy zits, but it works well on cysts and pustules alike. It’s not a miracle worker product – it won’t zap cysts overnight, but most of us who have moderate-to-severe acne are not expecting overnight results anyway. I also like that it doesn’t exacerbate hyperpigmentation – again, because it doesn’t severely dry out skin.
The newer tube packaging is perfect, and is easy to travel with. The copay for this was fairly expensive, but I will likely repurchase once I run out.

Great product! It works really well on inflamed, red acne and takes it down very quickly. It has no affect on closed comedones or blackheads. It works on EXTREMELY sensitive skin without drying it out or irritating it. I would highly reccomend this to anyone who doesn’t tolerate products such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Flattens microcysts and bigger cysts as well in nothing flat. Doesn’t quite work overnight miracles, but pretty close to it. Useful for the bumpies aka “texture” which are lurking under the surface but not yet inflamed, as well as incipient cysts which are just starting to redden but aren’t yet that angry red purple we all fear. I use it in conjunction with Spironolactone, which I cannot do without. Also, sad to say, diet does play a role….french fries or other fatty food, overly salted meals (all that iodine…), the price of reasonable skin is eternal vigilence. For some of us, the teen years return with a vengeance in the post menopausal fifties and sixties (after a lovely hiatus in the thirties and forties and early fifties).

This doesn’t make anything worse but I also don’t feel like it helped anything either. I also feel like it exacerbates my already dry skin.

I hit 30 and my skin went a little nuts with cystic acne along my cheeks. I tried a few combos with no luck for the past 3 years. I switched to the Eminence probiotic cleanser which helped, but would still get clogged pores that would sit under my skin for a couple months before turning into cystic pimples that took weeks to go away.
This year, I went on Tazorac .05% gel (I think the cream contributed to clogged pores when I tried it the year before) for 10 weeks and that helped to purge all the underground clogged pores. I would still get a nasty pimple every week or other week though. Finally, I asked my doctor about Aczone based on the reviews here and knowing I still had a bacterial issue thus why they became inflamed. I have been on it one month and have had just one pimple that came to a head quite fast and went away within a week all in.
It has definitely helped my hormonal cystic acne. I was about to go on Spiro as a last resort (though I really didnt like the idea of having to take pills every day).
I would say definitely try Aczone if you have hormonal acne. I use the 5% gel in the AM and the Tazorac at night for the clogged pores.

After using my first tube, i can say that it seems very effective at treating and preventing my cystic acne but ineffective on blackheads and related clogs. My regimen calls for using this twice a day after an AHA moisturizer. The pharmacist recommend this and it seems to improve the efficacy. At night, I top this with Epiduo. While I have sensitive skin and allergies, my skin tolerates tolerates it. (On occasion the Epiiduo burns, but I just add another layer of moisturizer and that helps.) The current Rx promotion caps your cost at $35 which is reasonable.

I am 36 and in the past year began getting cystic acne on my chin, cheeks and temples. The cysts were incredibly red, itchy, and painful. They never came to a head and seemed to never fully heal. Because they wouldn’t heal, I would pick at them.
I tried natural remedies, Proactive, clindagel and PRID. PRID seemed to help a bit with inflammation, but my skin would peel and scar.
Last week, I broke out with 17 at once. I was very embarrassed, got fed up and saw a dermatologist. He prescibed Doxycycline and Aczone 2x per day. Amazing results in less than a week! My ‘wounds’ are all dried up and I’m dealing with moderate peeling now. It seems as though Aczone immediately remedied the redness. I only woke up with one new pimple, but it went full circle and healed in 1 day.
I never thought I’d be comfortable again without makeup, but I am!

The number of break-outs has decreased but any break-out is too many. I have just been prescribed spironolactone and will be reviewing that also.
