A little bit of back story about the state of my nails. My nails usually grow pretty thick and long with no peeling or breaking. But recently both my index and middle finger nails have developed a little bit of “clouding” that appears when they get to a certain length (right along the edge of my finger on the fleshy part before the edge of my finger tip) . The clouding then develops into a horizontal tear which I can’t cut or file down because of it’s location 🙁 .
Because of this I have started looking for a base coat that will help keep the nails from cracking or to stop the cracks from going further. So I was excited when I found a large selection of Nail-Aid products at Walmart (for $3.88 ! ) which seemed to cater to what I was looking for . I was debating between the Nail-Aid Steel Instant Hardner and their 1 Minute Artificial Acrylic Power Iron Formula.
Unfortunately there are not many reviews of the Nail-Aid products online .So based on the packaging ,I went with the Steel Instant Hardner. It states on the box that it has “B5 and B12” and will help “eliminate peeling and breaking”. It also says that it can be used with nail color as a base and top coat and that it “Dries rapidly to an anti-chip shield” which was important to me as I like dry fast top coats best.
Now this is where things go wrong. I followed the instructions and applied 2 coats over my clean dry nails, letting them dry in between coats. After that I applied my nail polish (which consisted of 6 thin coats), letting it dry for about 20 minutes then I applied the Nail-aid Steel as a top coat. I finished my nails around 3pm and let them dry off for 2 hours before doing anything. Then I went about my day. Eating, washing my hands etc. and my nails looked fine when I went to sleep around 11pm.
So imagine my surprise the next morning when I found my nail polish to have bunched up and creased overnight ! It literally looks like I went to sleep with not quite dry nails that got messed up by sheets overnight. I have never had any product do anything like this before and I have used a lot of different nail products, from high end ones to well priced ones. How did the nail polish go from being dry to moving around at night? it is the strangest thing and the reason why I’m returning this ASAP as there is no way I’m going through this again in 3 days when based on the package I’m supposed to add another coat of the Steel Instant Hardner for “Best Results”.
I was trying to post a picture of the product and what my nails looked like the morning after:
