I really like this base coat and use it a lot under most of my manicures. As a base coat alone, this product is not bad, and adheres polish to my nails better than a lot of other base coats I have tried. I have managed to get polishes to last 4-5 days using Insta-Grip. However, I have had even more success with polish adhesion from other base coats. Insta Grip does perform better in other areas though – firstly it covers ridges well, and secondly (and most importantly to me) it prevents staining a lot more. I have never got any staining when I have used Insta Grip, and I can actually say it leaves my tips whiter when I remove it.
As well as its decent performance as a base coat, I personally feel like it can be used as a treatment. As well as its whitening properties, I feel it leaves my nails stronger and makes them grow faster. I have no idea why this is, as it is not marketed as a treatment. It does contain calcium to “strengthen the nail” but I was always under the impression that calcium didn’t particularly help nails as they are made from protein. It also contains extracts of pomegranate and goji berry, which it says are “nutrient rich anti-oxidants” that “help nourish growing nails”. So I guess something in it is responsible for the good it does to my nails, but I don’t know what exactly.
Lastly, with regard to its “insta” fast drying formula, I actually find that I need to leave it a good 5 minutes (sometimes 10 to be on the safe side) to dry completely before applying polish, otherwise I have issues with the drying time of my manicure as a whole. I have noticed it does not seem to work too well in conjunction with Poshe’s top coat (taking a while longer than normal to dry) but is fine with Essie’s Good to Go. This is a bit of a pain, but I find its good points outweigh its bad ones as it is overall the best base coat I have tried so far. This doesn’t mean I will stop looking, but I will be re-purchasing.
