I was looking for a cruelty free alternative to my beloved All In One base coat from Essie, and I thought I’d have to look for a while before finding one. I was lucky and came across this one right away though, and I’m so glad I did. It’s quick-drying (so much that I don’t even wait between the base coat and first coat of polish, I just get right to it) and creates a slightly sticky base for the polish to adhere to. It’s also supposed to be moisturizing and prevent your nails from chipping, and at least the latter claim seems to hold true to me. The added staying power that the base coat brings is about the same as the Essie one, which means that it’s really good. The brush is slightly flat which I enjoy a lot as it makes for a less messy application, in my opinion. The one con with this base coat is actually the size and the price. It contains only 5ml, which is on the smaller side as for how long you’ll be able to use it before you need to repurchase. But it’s also surprisingly pricy per ml. In Sweden the Essie base coat retails for about 150 SEK, and you get 15ml in a bottle. The Lumene base coat retails at around 70 SEK, which puts it above Essie in price, despite being a drugstore brand whereas Essie is considered a middle range here. Still, a really good (and cruelty free!) base coat.
