I buy a bottle of vodka once a week. Then I take it home and I drink it. The more I drink the better I look. Will definitely repurchase.

Most people would be skeptical if someone told them that vodka is a great toner. Sure, vodka is a little intimidating, but it truly does work wonders; at least it did for me. I soak a small amount on a small pad and use it as I would with any other toner. This stuff tightens your pores, brightens your complexion, and shrinks acne on the spot.

So much better than the old “dab toothpaste on a spot” trick! As a bonus, using vodka instead of water to prepare a batter or pastry crust will cause the wheat to produce less gluten, so you end up with a flakier end product. The booze cooks off, so you can’t get buzzed on your fish and chips or pie, but you’ll enjoy them all the same!

I first tried vodka on my face a few years ago. Didn’t use it for awhile but went back to it again this summer. My face is extremely oily and sweaty in the summer- and this was a life saver for that. I use it morning and night after washing my face with water.. It cleans the dirt out of my pores(you can see the dirt on a cotton round after using it) and, combined with rubbing alcohol which I dot on the spots a pimple might be forming, it keeps my skin clear. Vodka is a lifesaver for my face !

All this did was dry me out and turn my skin dull. 🙁 Didn’t help with pimples either. No different from putting rubbing alcohol on my face. (And being a Polish girl, I can assure you I only use the very best vodka!) I WOULD buy again—but it will go down the hatch, not on my face.

I was looking into toners that might help clear up the cystic acne I’ve been getting now and then since being on a certain medication I’ve since ceased. I have sensitive combination skin that tends to be oily but dries out easily (and is eczema as well as acne prone), so it’s difficult to find anything gentle enough to use on my face that won’t burn/irritate/dry/clog it. Tea tree oil clogs, lavender oil eventually dries, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice that work for so many burn, most commercial products are bound to have something that won’t agree with my skin, and gentler natural products don’t seem to work too well consistently. I can only take salicylic acid in very low concentrations (under 1%) and while benzoyl peroxide works (though eventually it tends to dry if I don’t dilute it) it’ll make my skin so much worse if I don’t use it don’t use it for a day, scrubs are horrible for me and salt (epsom/sea) washes break me out. Name it and I’ve probably tried it and had issues.
Most toners have alcohol (which clears my acne but dries/burns my skin) and it occurred to me that there was one kind of alcohol I’ve spilled on my skin tons of times with no burning or issues. I’d heard vodka had disinfecting properties and had some on hand (Smirnoff Triple Distilled, though I doubt the type matters) so decided to give it a go, the worst it could do was irritate my skin like so many other things do and I’d just not use it again if it did. Well I just applied it not an hour ago and the painful, persistent cystic bumps I had for days already look and feel like they’re about gone. It didn’t burn, irritate or dry my skin at all (I may dilute if necessary for repeated use, and hopefully it won’t cause worse flare-ups if i don’t use it regularly like BP. I may just use it as a spot/T-zone treatment if it does eventually dry me out). It also made the blackheads I’ve had since my teens look instantly lighter. I know it’s probably too soon to really tell how well this’ll continue to work, but I’ve never had anything besides BP (the one that works 24hrs in the AcneFree kit is best, others I’ve used are pretty hit and miss) work this well so fast (usually if something’s going to irritate my skin I can tell pretty quickly by how drying it is which this surprisingly wasn’t at all considering that it is alcohol just not the kind usually used in toners, and I don’t see how it can possibly clog my pores). So far though it seems promising (not to mention it’s also cheap, natural, extremely easy to get, and doesn’t have any smell let alone an offensive one). I really hope I’ve finally found something cheap that doesn’t reek and won’t make my skin worse than it was to start with and that will maybe even continue to work well (a true HG acne product that BP could be if it didn’t dry so much with continued use and cause flare-ups worse than what I was using it to eliminate when I miss a day). I’ll update again if I have any issues with drying/irritation/flare-ups/etc using this as a facial toner. If I don’t update then this will be the first truly HG facial/acne cleanser I’ve ever found.
My Desert Essence Vanilla Chai Body Wash I’ve also reviewed has done wonders for clearing my skin/body (both acne and eczema) without drying it (even my face), and the Fruit of the Earth Alcohol-Free Aloe Vera Gel I use calms any bodily skin irritations without clogging my pores (except on my face, but just about anything either irritates or clogs that). The fact that these two products individually as well as combined managed to calm/cleanse my acne/irritations/eczema is incredible as you need to dry acne and moisturize eczema, and these two products manage to completely balance both perfectly without any issues. If I’ve finally found something (vodka) that completely effectively rids even my worst acne without any irritation or issues (my face being especially finicky) then my skin is just about set..an idea I’d just about given up on that makes me quite giddy, having my skin be completely normal and healthy and not in any way bug me most of the time (what a strange concept, my body’d have to find another way to irritate me as it seems like whenever I manage to get one thing under control another thing always pops up, or the same thing but worse and/or in a weirder area..I love my body). If this continues to work then all I’d need to find would be a facial moisturizer that doesn’t clog my pores in case I do accidentally over-dry/irritate my skin (aloe gel, glycerin, any kind of oil, and anything else I’ve I’ve tried that can be considered at all moisturizing clogs my facial pores and often irritates my skin. Raw cucumber’s the only decent thing I’ve found so far but I’d prefer something I can keep in a bottle and easily take with me that won’t quickly if ever expire. I think I’ll try aloe juice and see how that goes..).
EDIT 1/13/11: Can be a bit drying over time if too much is used undiluted (I mainly use it as a spot treatment and on oilier areas now). I watered it down and added aloe juice (not gel) to help calm the skin, and it still works great.

I heard that wood alcohol gets absorbed by the body and can predispose the body to getting cancer, so i wanted to use a food grade alcohol, so thought i would try vodka. Well… as the other reviewers mentioned, it works great as a toner and astringent. One thing that it is particularly effective at is drying out a pimple without overly drying/irritating the skin. Must be something in the vodka that does it– if you put some on a pimple before going to bed– BAM that sucker is dried out in the morning and all the infection is gone. I constantly get pimples on my lower chin area, and vodka works great 1) as a preventative– if i apply it 2x/day, pimples don’t form; and 2) if you forget to apply it and you do get a pimple, it will dry it out right away. I keep a little “nip” airplane bottle in the bathroom and refill it from a larger bottle.

I use vodka for everything. Cleaning, deodorizing…. you name it… so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try it as an astringent. Guess what? It works. Like a dream. It’s less harsh on my skin, doesn’t dry it out, and my skin is the clearest it’s been in YEARS. Hands down better than any astringent I’ve ever tried. You’ve totally gotta try it. 🙂

I can’t drink, but how I LOVE vodka! I have been suffering from extremely oily skin this summer and breakouts – I have been spending lots of $$$$$$ on makeup, foundation, concealers for oil and acne control. I was again considering buying an expensive branded Pore Minimizer Makeup when I took a good look at the ingredients – it’s mostly water, alcohol and colored powder…..Hmmm…why not try making my own Pore Minimizer from my favourite loose powder Mineral Makeup and vodka? The vodka I used is 45% proof, so it’s much weaker than rubbing alcohol which just BURNS the skin.
By jove, this works like a dream! I had to mix a lighter shade of Mineral powder as it turns darker when wet, but it was easy to just add to the vodka in the ratio of 1:3 and shake. I added a little moisturizing toner and a drop each of Lavender and Litsea Cubeba essential oil to make it super pleasant. I’ve tried Clinique’s Pore Minimizer before and it tends to sting a little with a harsh rubbing alcohol odor. This concoction is just wonderful – doesn’t irritate sensitive facial skin, goes on like a smooth, matte layer of powder veil, controls the oils and kills bacteria that cause acne, and best of all, it lasts and lasts in hot humid weather. My face stayed matte and super fresh. I used concealer and foundation over the areas that need more coverage, but my T-zone and shiny cheeks are just great with this.

Believe it or not I like to use this as a refreshing mist or toner.I have oily skin so there is no irritation from this. I put some in one of those little tiny colorful spray bottles you can get from CVS. You can refrigerate it if you want it to be truly refreshing when you mist it on your face! It feels good and it’s a pick me up. Just don’t get it in your eyes or it burns. What brand am I currently using for those interested? It’s Gordon’s Vodka. Now that I thought about it maybe I’ll put mine in the fridge! It’ll feel good when it’s hot out!
