Boscia has many products which I love- although they tend to be super hit or miss lately. The new Boscia Resurfacing Treatment Toner with Apple Cider has me torn for a couple of reasons. The amount of sodium hydroxide in this toner seems to be a rather high amount, especially for a daily use product. It can be irritating, especially for sensitive skin to have this ph adjuster in such a high percentage of a product that is intended to be used daily, and also in a product containing many other acids.
My other issue is with the amount of acetic acid aka vinegar included in the Boscia Resurfacing Treatment Toner. I personally believe a little bit of apple cider vinegar on skin occasionally can help with exfoliation and helps fight bacteria and breakouts. I am not certain that daily use of acetic acid is a good thing for skin- especially when used in a product with other acids, and sodium hydroxide.
I found using this the first time made my skin feel a little sensitive, pink, and tingly. I applied it to a cotton pad and then smoothed it over my face after cleansing. Very easy to use. I decided to skip the second evening of use, and then used it again a third night. Afterwards my skin still felt the same, which was to be expected. However, when I used the fourth night (which was two nights in a row) my skin was screaming at me with sensitvity- so I decided to rinse it off. I am thinking my skin is just far too sensitive to use this more than just occasionally. Those who don’t have sensitive skin will probably not have the same issues. I do love that this product is well packaged and it is also rather affordable- $28 for 5.10 ounces- a bottle should last several months.
I have had much better luck with the Murad Resurfacing Multi Acid Treatment Toner, which for sensitive skin seems to be a better fit. There are many Exfoliating and Resufacing Toners out there- seems to be a new trend- Boscia, Murad, Youth to the People, The Ordinary, Tarte, and REN Skincare all offer toners with exfoliating acids. There are many options out there for every skin type. My video review can be seen here:
