I picked this up at Shoppers last week (20% off on Thursdays) but I’ve only been able to use this at night or during the day at home for a hit of refreshment or moisture because it has been too unspeakably cold to use this if I’m going to be heading out of doors (it could conceivably damage my skin). The smell of this spray is gorgeous at first – roses, as you would expect. This really is a lovely hydrating toner to use and it also works very well to help sort of “bind” my makeup layers together (foundation or cc cream, powder blush and powder) and make it all look more like skin than like layers of makeup. Price is really pretty good too for a decent sized bottle. In warmer weather, I can see this being lovely to cool and refresh my face after hot yoga or the gym.

This is a very nice hydrating toner that contains 4 flower waters: rose, orange blossom, blueberry, and hamamelis (witch hazel) and is alcohol-free. I also like that this is in a large (200ml) sturdy plastic spray bottle and can be used for multiple purposes: toner, hydrating mist, primer, or to set make up. There is only a slight floral scent but it is pleasant and doesn’t linger. The nozzle on the bottle I have sprays a fine and even mist the majority of the time and I’ve only experience a few heavier droplets on occasion, nothing troublesome or problematic as it’s easy enough to tap them with a beauty sponge (if using to set makeup). As a toner or hydrating mist, this actually helps Hyaluronic Acid serums work better. I have sampled many of the other Embryolisse products but the only ones I’d repurchase are this one and the Lait Creme Concentre (which I have bought many times over and have backups of in my cabinet right now). At $22 CAD for 200ml, I think this is worth purchasing.

Review: I love the way this arrived. It comes in a box with two different lids/caps, plus one big clear cap to cover the tops of both options. One option is a fine spray mister top, and the other is a normal “pour” type top, if you want to pour the toner out onto a cotton pad, and it clicks shut. I sometimes end up buying mister bottles for certain toners so this has saved me a trip/expense in buying that separately. The mister is perfect too – very fine mist, and it creates a “cloud” of toner rather than blasting it into a line at one part of your face. I mist from a few inches a away and then just press into my skin. It doesn’t leave any huge bubbles of toner on one side and then none, say – on your forehead. I usually keep the mister on for day to day use, but it’s nice knowing I can switch it to the other when travelling so it doesn’t end up spraying or spilling all over the place (although, I’ve taken it with me with both style caps and never had any issues with spillage).
It’s lightly scented (soft floral, softer than rose water – and doesn’t linger) and alcohol-free, which I prefer. I tend to stay away from lots of “extracts and essential oils” but the ones in this formula are basically water and I have no problems with using it. It’s very nice in the summer when my skin is oilier and I do not need moisturiser after using this. For oilier skin that is not dehydrated/has no dry patches this is probably hydrating enough to use with no need for moisturiser. For fall/winter I do follow with moisturiser if needed. This also has other uses – to freshen up make-up throughout the day or get rid of the “powdered” look (works like MAC’s Fix+) especially because of how fine the mist is, it won’t disturb your make-up.
Repurchase/Recommend? I would repurchase. I have the 200mL bottle and one bottle lasts me 5-7 months at least. I would recommend this to anyone – except for the driest of skins – who may not find this water-based toner hydrating enough.
