Ok, so those who have been following my reviews know that I’ve been looking for my HG since they discontinued my ultimate favorite CK one foundation. When I say I’ve tried everything in the last 3 months, I mean I’ve tried EVERYTHING (Nars, Lancome, Philosophy, Juice beauty, IT, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Cargo, Stila, Urban decay, Bobbi Brown, Honest Beauty….to name a few). Back in the day when I used to wear mineral makeup, I remember going to Merle Norman and reading their reviews on their mineral line. I was VERY impressed with their makeup and couldn’t believe that it worked for me in my 20s when I always associated their makeup with older women made for more mature skin.
Well ladies, that is the farthest thing from the truth. Yes, I am turning 39 this year (ugh in 2 weeks!!!!). I am VERY fortunate to look a lot younger than I really am. I settled on Cargo oil free foundation or the NARS TM. Even though my skin is very problematic right now due to health issues, I still like medium coverage. I don’t like the look or feel of heavy makeup. So…….I would layer these tinted moisturizers on my face. The Cargo was splotchy and the NARS the color was off and I became an oil slick 30 minutes later. I came on MUA and reviewed the top rated TM and this one came up.
I said what the hell, I will try it. I have nothing to lose. When I first got there, I felt like the colors were off. I tried some of their foundations as well. They matched me to the shade 50 in the TM for my NC25 to 30 skin. I put it on, used 2 dime size squeezes on my face, and I was prepared for the worst. But then like magic, I loved it. The color matched. Nice light to medium coverage and what did it for me was my mom. She always tells me “your makeup is too dark”, “you’re wearing too much”, “it’s too heavy”. She looked at me and said “I don’t know what you’re wearing but this is absolutely the most PERFECT makeup I have ever see on you.” A few days go by and she said the same thing. So here you go.
PROS:
-Good color match! I would say it may be a tad bit too dark against my neck but I just pull the color down to match the rest of my body.
-Coverage – light to medium. Evens out skin tone and with a 2nd layer get medium coverage. Still need a concealer for trouble spots. I don’t like my concealer and may go and try theirs
-Texture – Creamy and blendable
-Finish – This part blows me away every time I put it on. Unlike 99% of TMs, this did not get shiny and turn me into a disco ball. I have dry/combo skin and every makeup I’ve tried (even my beloved CK one) would show a ton of shine in my t zone as the day wore on. I don’t have to set this makeup at all! It allows my Nars bronzer and blush to pop. It’s incredible.
-Staying power – all day! in the places I need to conceal, it breaks up but I think it’s the concealer, not the TM.
CONS
-I mentioned above that it breaks up in places where I have the concealer. I’m hoping it’s in fact the concealer i’m currently using.
-It’s a TM, so I can’t really put this as a CON, but would be awesome if this had a little bit more coverage so I don’t have to use so much to get the coverage I need.
-Break outs- Again, here I can’t fully attribute to the TM but I have been getting a lot of white bumps on my chin and forehead. I am going through an immeasurable about of anxiety in my life right now, so I am chalking it up to stress. I will update once things get better.
Overall, this is as close to perfect as it gets. Truly love this stuff!!!!
UPDATES Feb 2019: I don’t know why I ever dropped this amazing lightweight buildable TM. I strayed for about 2 years. Tried EVERYTHING on the market….Armani, Channel, Laura Mercier, MUFE, etc and settled on Shiesdo. Shiesdo, I believe, ended up clogging my skin and drying it out even more over the years. Looked drying and heavy too. I was breaking out and I had enough of the dry, cakey makeup look. I wanted something lightweight and beautiful. I slowly am telling myself that it’s ok to show some imperfections to make you look more natural. So I went back to this gem. Found it thicker this time around but dotted on my skin and “patted” it in with the elf foundation selfie brush and it looks AMAZING. I added concealer to cover spots and also purchased their mineral line to dust over and slightly set the TM. For reference my skin is neutral/warm/light-medium/olive and I find it so hard to match. I am an M50 in the TM and M40 in the minerals (which only has like 4 ingredients). My skin looks fabulous, natural, healthy and my breakouts have already subsided after 3 days of use. I’ve already received compliments on my skin and that hasn’t happened in a LONG time. Just LOVE Merle Norman products!

Feels really oily on my skin. Can’t really wear in temps above 85. None of the colors work for me either too light or too dark. And you have to wash your face more than twice to get this off. It cost too much. I used this product for about a month and stopped bc it doesn’t work right.

received this a while ago and I use it every now and then for the days when I don’t feel like wearing any makeup I kind of like it but not enough to purchase it again compared to all the other tinted moisturizers out on the market today this is really not a good one the coverage is very very very light the formula is a transparent and thin when it comes out of the package it looks very thick consistency but its not going on to your face the only thing I really like about it is it has SPF 15 in it other than that I wouldn’t re purchase

very nice tinted moisturizer, but with very limited shade selection. only 4 shades available, and the light is a bit too dark on me (NW15ish). but it feels good and has spf. goes for about $30 here. if they redid this and expanded the shades, i’d definitely repurchase.

I use this everyday as my moisturizer (I have oily skin so this is plenty of moisture for me). Smells clean, evens out skin-tone and doesn’t turn orange. My two complaints are that L10 is slightly too dark for me, but since I am a really pale person this is nothing new for me. I just blend over my ears, neck and collarbone. Also, you get a lot less product in the new packaging for the same price.

Love, love, love, love!!!!! My go-to product for my face. I’ve been trying out a lot of different foundations lately from Dior, to YSL Teint Resist, to MUFE HD, to Smashbox and I always come back to this. I have dry skin, and most foundations dry me out even more no matter how well I moisturize so I love that with this product I never have to refresh my face with a spray or anything. It glides on so smooth, and has the perfect amount of coverage while still allowing my skin to show through. It lasts the entire day without slipping, but it may not if you have oilier skin…however it reapplies just as smoothly I’ve found. There’s a picture in my profile where I’m wearing this in the shade tan if you want to see for yourself (never mind the naked lips in the pic, still had to kiss my man goodbye 😡 ) I highly recommend this if you’re not a big fan of foundation but still want to be polished. Another great Merle Norman product in my opinion!!!

I hate that this costs so much. There, I said it.
And they repackaged it, with less in it, and the price didn’t reflect that. Dammit.
However. I wear it every day. I wear it with the MN Mineral Powder over it and I look like I’m wearing nothing, it’s a beautiful finish, and I am safe from the relentless California sunshine. I’m 56, regularly mistaken for 40. That’s genes (thanks, Mom), living a life with happy choices, and wearing sunscreen since 1982.
MN has some terrific products. Too pricey — and the sales reps need to update their looks; too much helmet hair and shimmery eye shadow in the daytime — but I will go there regularly for this foundation combination. It’s a great one, for me!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this TM. This have great coverage ( not like most TM that have minumum coverage ) and lasting powder is amazing as well.
Also skin looks really nice and fresh. I take one lippie off JUST b/c of the low SPF. Can’t wear this at AM but love it for PM.I am MAC 15-20 and the color ML30 is PERFECT.,

This is a fantastic tinted moisturizer. It gives more coverage than typical T.M. but feels very light on the skin and looks very natural and not made up like foundation. My only complaint is that it is not at all sweatproof for the hot, humid summer months, but overall it is the best tinted moisturizer I have tried from department store to drugstore.

Nice product if you want sheer coverage but yet it covers very well. Nice consitency and smoothes over skin flawlessly. I am using this as my foundation over a moisturizer for the cooler months. I apply using my foundation brush and don’t need alot of product. I paid $36 which is about average for your high end foundations but feel it will last me quite a long time. Glad I decided to try it.
