Not as thin or lightweight as the UV Watery essence version, and leaves an oily sheen on skin like you’d expect from a thicker sunscreen, although it doesn’t leave a white cast. Has good UVA protection (PA++++) as well as SPF50. Contains 90mL product instead of 50mL and needs to be shaken thoroughly before use – you’ll hear the mixing beads inside rattle around when shaken hard enough. It’s hard to tell when it’s running out as the bottle is rigid plastic, and of solid colour. True to the name, it’s a thicker gel-like consistency – although it does this weird pilling thing when first rubbed between my hands, little white specks appear but then will disappear again if I go over it a few more times before applying to my face, neck or other body parts. Then it just leaves that sunscreen sheen.
This is more water-resistant than the essence version (although I wouldn’t use it to go swimming) as well as less drying once on than the UV Watery essence, or the UV Perfect milk sunscreens – it leaves a thin layer of gel on the skin once dry, so when my skin is irritated and in need of more TLC than usual, I find this helps it remain more comfortable and less likely to flake. It’s also useful used on my neck and chest, as the skin there is prone to irritating rashes and flaking with hot and humid weather, and sticks around despite sweating or getting hit with light rain.
Wouldn’t be my first pick for a good daytime sunscreen, but useful to have as an affordable more robust option for face and upper body skin that temporarily needs some extra care.

Had high hopes for its glowing review, but this product pills like crazy. I only use this on my body due to its dry-down nature. I don’t put any lotion prior on this. Just purely the sunscreen. I wanted to apply the recommended amount (~1/2 tsp on my arm) and when I built 2nd layer the product pilled, the first layer was breaking apart. Hence I would not recommend at all.

I really liked the feel of the Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreen, it’s gelish lotion and dries to a moist matte finish that I can’t feel on my skin at all. I wear it on my neck only as I hate any products on my neck so sadly it’s a bit darker than my face. I try to wear a light scarf until it gets too hot to protect my neck. It does have alcohol and a citrus scent that is refreshing though normally I don’t like any scent in my products.
It didn’t dry my skin but sadly even though I slapped lots of it on and let it sink for 20 minutes and I have 10 minutes of exposure on my way to the train station and the rest is through window glass (not sure how much that protects) I still got dark and I was trying to hide in corners where no sunlight would come through.
I imagine it works well with makeup but I only wore it on my neck so can’t say to that possibility. It’s too bad, it would have been a HG if it actually protected my skin.

Feels super light on the skin (arms and legs), protects me from the sun and the price is perfect for my wallet. I tried this in Japan and felt in love. I will re-purchase this over and over again.

Feels like nothing on my skin and didn’t irritate my skin at all, even on accutane. It’s a great value for a sunscreen. The nozzle of the bottle can get a bit gooped up if you’re not careful, but overall this is my favorite face sunscreen I’ve tried by far.

I’ve been using this for a couple months whenever i run out of shiseido senka uv gel. It’s PA++++ which is great and the bottle is bigger than other japanese sunscreens. I find that it has a bit of a white cast when applied which is sort of noticeable and may be if you’re darker.
I set it with powder and a couple hours later it’s very shiny and greasy. I could use blotting paper but worry that it will lift the sunscreen off my face.

I’ve always used the Biore watery essence and really liked it. Recently I saw that Biore came out with the 2017 waterproof version, so decided to try it out. I thought that a waterproof and sweat proof sunscreen would be great for work outs or holidays. Because the gel is cheaper than the essence, I opted for the gel this time. The product applied very easily. It’s more sticky than the watery essence (old version) and it does leave a bit of a white cast. It dries up matte. BUT, I think this waterproof gel formula is breaking me out! I started to get bumps on my jawline, which is not a pretty sight. I just ordered the watery essence 2017 waterproof version to see whether that one will break me out as well. Hopefully it’s just the gel formula that’s breaking me out, otherwise I’ll have to stock up on the 2016 version!

I can’t use normal sun creams as they break me out, regardless of brand or formula. Cosmetic brands don’t seem to do anything higher than about 30+ and even those aren’t great. City Block by Clinique broke me out, for example.
I bought this after reading lots about Korean beauty and also trying to get my rosacea under control. It’s thin and watery, and a bit lemony smelling. When I first opened it I thought it had a lot of alcohol in it as it smelled horrible and dried very quickly. Since I’ve shaken it a lot and actually used it, it seems fine. I bought it from Amazon and it didn’t list alcohol in the ingredients there, of course the packaging is Japanese so I can’t read that!
Overall, I’m pleased. It goes on nicely, I find it dries down quickly although it does have a slight sheen to it. I don’t mind that though. I don’t mind the smell, and so far (couple of weeks daily use) my skin seems to like it.
I’ve given it 5 stars as it does what I want at a reasonable price. Unless other brands start looking at their price points I’ll probably stick with buying this one.

Everyone always raves about Biore UV aqua rich sunscreens but I just don’t get it. This makes me really shiny straight after application and extremely greasy looking at the end of the day. I also break out (particularly at my temples and jaw) each time after using this. I have since realised my skin can’t hack heavy alcohol in sunscreens – too drying/irritating.

I used to buy this regularly until about a year ago. I like that it doesn’t leave a (noticeable) white cast and isn’t too greasy. However, it did make me look somewhat shiny (nothing I couldn’t combat with some regular blotting paper though). It’s fairly affordable and you definitely do get more bang for your buck compared to the Watery Essence, and from what I’ve heard the filters are different as well with Watery Gel providing better physical protection.
However, just like the Watery Essence, this stuff pills like crazy. It pills if I scratch my nose, it pills if I look at it wrong, it pills if I nod my head, drove me bonkers when I used it. If you use anything thicker than the thinnest of lotions for a daytime moisturiser, it’ll be pill city. For what it’s worth, I don’t think the sun protection it claims to provide is that good either, and the packaging is rather wasteful as well – there was a fair amount of the product left inside when I cut it open, even though nothing was coming out.
Still, it’s better than nothing, and it did leave me visibly less pasty and greasy compared to other sunscreens, pilling be damned.
