   Awesome feel – questionable protection. I originally purchased this product due to the rave reviews here. I used it for a couple of years and loved it! It’s a lovely light cream, great consistency, sinks in well, minimal white cast and quite matt. Didn’t upset my sensitive skin or eyes, no fragrance. This sunscreen was a definite fave for a long time BUT…. I’ve since done more research into the active ingredients and which parts of the UV spectrum they protect. The actives in this are:

   Octyl methoxycinnamate 7.5%

   Phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid 2.4%

   Titanium Dioxide 1.6%


   For starters, the main active Octyl methoxycinnamate has questionable safety – it undergoes degradation when exposed to sunlight and isn’t photostable. Furthermore it has hormonal activity and is largely absorbed by the skin rather than sitting on top, making it less safe, it also produces free radicals and is photo allergenic. It only protects against UVB rays.

   The other ingredients only protect against UVB and UVA2. Which means this sunscreen provides no protection against UVA1. Within UVA rays, it is UVA1 that makes up 75% of the ultraviolet radiation that affects our skin and causes premature aging. So whilst this sunscreen is protective against burning from UVB, it doesn’t provide good protection for the UVA spectrum which is the major contributor to cancer and aging. It also has a high level of Octyl methoxycinnamate with its questionable safety. Very disappointing as I love this sunscreen but I’m now searching for something safer with better protection.

   This is my HG sunscreen.
   Can’t rave about it enough. Great texture, moisturising, but not heavy. No balling on the skin, great base for makeup. Will protect your skin in the worst conditions (music festival on a hot Australian day and I didn’t burn at ALL).

   Very light, non greasy, absorbs quickly, no shiny finish, just perfect.

   Update 2018: I’m still using this still love it. But for my face I’m using a higher UVA protection sunscreen Skinstitut Age Defence SPF50. Priceline seems to be the only place that seems to sell Trishave sun sunscreen.

   We have a winner!!!
   My hunt for the perfect sunscreen is finally over.
   It’s light, easily absorbed, moisturizing and scent-free.

   I’ve thrown out so many sunscreens that are labeled ‘non-greasy’ that leave me looking like a oil slick but this little beauty goes on matte, and if I’m wearing makeup that day it goes on over the top with no issues.

   My only gripe is availability, not sure if it’s because it’s selling out all over town or if it’s because it’s a man’s line that it’s not getting a lot of love in retail-land but I’m finding it difficult to find a store that has it in stock.

   This really is an excellent product. About a year ago I developed an allergy to chemical sunscreens and had to switch to all mineral ones. These were less than satisfactory as I have slightly oily skin and tend to perspire in hot weather. None of them worked well under makeup. With the recommendation of my dermatologist I tried this and found that it works perfectly. In colder weather I will probably have to wear a moisturising serum underneath it, but for summer it is a godsend. No more looking ghostly, no more sunburn, no more irritated skin and no more zinc oxide all over the neck of my t-shirts. Australian women, march yourself straight down to the shaving aisle of your local supermarket and grab a bargain.

   Update – after using this for three days I am back to physical sunblocks. It appears I am still allergic to chemical sunscreen ingredients. However I stand by my high rating. Several of my friends use this and love it. For people who can wear chemical sunscreens, this is a cosmetically elegant, non greasy, non shiny all in one product at an excellent price, and in an easy to use container that fits perfectly in your handbag. Pity it’s not for me.

   The packaging says TriShave 3in1 Moisturising Lotion SPF 30+. It’s designed for men to use post-shaving. Here’s what it says:
   1. Post shave soothing lotion, helps prevent shaving rash.
   2. Moisturiser: Light, non-greasy, vitamin enriched in an antioxidant base. Relieves skin dryness.
   3. SPF30+, UVA & UVB filters sunscreen. Does not clog pores.
   (After Olay left me high and dry by reformulating their fragrance-free Complete 15+, so that it was, well, whiffy, I was on the search for a replacement. I’ve tried so many in my search since and finally settled on this. My criteria were: non-irritating, fragrance-free, hydrating, nice texture, no white cast.)
   TriShave is fantastic.
   Pros: Truly fragrance free – just smells like a bland scent-free moisturiser and not all sunscreeny, surprisingly hydrating yet non-greasy, economical ($9 for 80 g), easily available (at my local Woolies), doesn’t irritate my extremely sensitive skin which was already sensitive and is now even moreso now I use a retinoid, good under makeup, good texture, not tested on animals, money back guarantee.
   Cons: It’s marketed for men, so ladies are missing out on this little wonder!
