   It makes your skin whiter. So that’s a definite plus. Thick but never broke me out. Great stuff.

   This product is great, it provides complete UV protection, AND makes your skin look lighter at the same time.

   If you have truly light skin, like a C-1 in MAC (white skin with very, very slight yellow undertones) or an N-1 in MAC (white skin with very, very slight pink undertones) – then this is the sunblock for you. It will make your light skin even whiter & brighter. The effect will be stunning. It enhances my super light skin, making it even whiter. It makes my already great skin, look just gorgeous. I have at least 5 people a day, nearly every day – ask me what I use on my skin. I can’t say how much I love this product.

   However, and this is a big however, if you are like the majority of women & do not have really light skin, and are darker than a C-1/N-1 (therefore a C-2/N-2), OR you take the lightest shade in the NC/NW range (NC-1 or NW-1) – or darker – then this product will not work for you. NC-1 & NW-1 are actually not light colors, as they are so over run with orange, pink or beige that they end up being very dark & full of color. If this is you, this sunblock will not work for you. It will not match the skin on your eyelids, ears, neck, hands or the rest of your body. It will make you look sickly, pasty or ‘ashy’ – or – people will think you are trying to whiten your skin with makeup.

   I’m a C-1, a natural dark blonde with blue eyes, so it matches me perfectly. If I’m getting a photo taken, or it’s a special occasion, after applying this product, I dab a pea sized amount of the lightest, yellow based foundation I could find (the lightest shade in Laura Mercier Oil Free), over top of it. I don’t need to wear foundation & don’t wear it 99% of the time, but point is, this product looks great with or without it.

   It is fragrance free, non irritating & ‘chemical free’ (zinc oxide is still a chemical contrary to what some may think). It is not overly thick & it is not greasy. It it not drying, in fact it is moisturizing to the skin. Because it contains a high amount of zinc oxide, it is both soothing & anti-bacterial (which helps if you are acne prone). It does not pill up or flake off once applied. It is oil free, non-acnegenic, non-comdeogenic & has never caused me to breakout. It provides complete UVB/UVA protection, and has a high SPF.

   This product is excellent, but only for only those with very light skin. For everybody else, I recommend the Topix Replenix line of sunblocks.

   My dermatologist recommended this to me years ago and I love it, especially when I’m using Retin-A at night. The first couple of times you try this sunscreen it may feel slightly heavy on your skin — not greasy, but heavy. That’s the wax in it which actually helps to keep it in place when you sweat and holds a bit of moisture in. With that said, this sunscreen is not oily, will not break you out nor dry you out and will actually soothe your skin which is a nice bonus, especially if it’s irritated from harsh treatments. Yes, it has a whitish cast, but a very easy solution is to brush a little mineral makeup over — now you’ve got normal, healthy colored skin, blemish/flaw coverage and even more sun protection! P.S. A trick my dermatologist recommended to me was to use a slightly damp cosmetic wedge to spread this on — this is what I like to do, works great!

   I have very sensitive skin, and it’s hard to find a sunscreen that doesn’t break me out (chemical sunscreens irritate my seborrheic dermatitis) or dry my skin out (titanium dioxide, even in small amounts, seems to suck the moisure right out of my skin). Basically, I think zinc oxide only sunscreens are what I need to stick to, and they are pretty rare. However, ZO is pretty whitening, so many companies have started adding tint. This is a not so great move for me as I’m super pale, and the tint usually looks weird on me. Also, for a fascial sunscreen, I need it to be moisturizing enough. ZO is drying (though it doesn’t dry my skin out like titanium dixoide does – I must have a sensitivity to it!), and I have dry skin already, so the ideal formula would need to be pretty moisturizing.

   Glycolix Elitie Sunscreen SPF 30 meets all my requirements nicely. Ideally, it wouldn’t be so whitening (hence, one lippie off), but I understand that is the price one pays for 17% ZO. As I am porcelain pale to begin with, I can tolerate the whitening effect, but I think many people will find it distasteful for everyday use (e.g., I can’t see those with medium skin tones for Caucasians looking natural while wearing it, and forget about anyone with darker skin tones!). It is also somewhat expensive (currently around $30 when S&H is factored in for 1.6 oz); much cheaper sunscreen is eaiser to find for most, but, if you’re like me with very sensitive skin, those cheaper formulas don’t work for you. This product also has the added benefit of antioxidants.

   This sunscreen has me torn, i like that it has 17% zinc , antioxidants and an airless pump, but i have a few things to say about the finish.

   I measured out the full 1/4 teaspoon amount need for face which is around 5 full pumps of the sunscreen. if i apply this all at once i get a white clown face, no joke, and my skin is pretty light (guerlain LdP in 01). I have to apply this one pump (layer) at a time, then the same for my neck. It’s slightly moisturizing, so no moisturizer is necessary for my normal to slightly oily skin during summer. It leaves a dewy finish which i’m not really a fan of during these hot months. For the summer, this is an absolute no-go. It doesn’t have enough staying power (i was gardening with this on for about 3 hours and within 20 minutes when i started to sweat it just came right off)
   i might revisit this during the winter when my skin gets drier and the weather won’t be hot, and i can tolerate looking a little more pale than usual. This just may be my winter sunscreen, but for now i’ll stick to replenix sunscreen spray and SN zinc powder

   Most mineral sunscreens can enlarge pores a little, if you already have large pores. This one is such a one. I have worn it on one part of my face during 3 days, and tested other sunscreens on other parts to see if it would cause more acne.

   Chemical sunscreens usually “disappear” a little better, but then again, physical sunscreens are a better choice if you have hyperpigmentation. Hard to choose…

   But this keeps makeup at place during many hours, compared to my old Elta Md clear. And you can powder over most of the “mineral look”… It’s still not as matte as the Nia24 spf 30- but that one also contains more silicones which can affect sensitive acne skin…. This is also a quite thick cream that is a little hard to spread, I’d prefer a gel/liquid…

   Pros:

   – physical
   – quite matte
   – not waterproof, for daily use ( as much as I can see)
   – spf 30 (even if I’d need 50 for my melasma)
   – keeps makeup at place quite well

   Cons:

   – Hard to find to buy from Scandinavia
   – gives enlarged pores/a ” mineral look”
   – thick cream, hard to spread

   I’ll update about if it gives me breakouts.

   Until now I’d like to give this 3 lippies.

   Update: I can’t help it but I just don’t like that mineral sunscreens enlarge pores and flaws so much…..especially this one…. And I don’t like the feeling of putting a “paste” on my oily face…. So I just don’t like using it and then it becomes useless unfortunately!

   The search goes on! Two lippies.

   I’ve been using this sunscreen for over a year now and I love this stuff. Firstly, it works – I’ve never had any issues with my skin heating up/tanning/burning since I’ve started using this (I use about 4 pumps). Also, it very nice cosmetically. It’s non-greasy, EXTREMELY soothing (& I have rosacea with very sensitive skin) and does not feel sticky, heavy or clog my pores. I use concealer/foundation under my eyes and on certain areas of my face and my makeup looks great on top of this. I’m pretty fair (NW 15) and prefer a non-tinted sunscreen as a bit of a white cast really doesn’t really look bad on me whereas tinted sunscreens are usually too dark and make me look orange and/or dirty. However, I do believe that those with more medium/darker toned complexions may have trouble with this leaving a white cast on their skin. I do always use a moisturizer underneath this and I’ve never had any trouble with dryness at all using this (I have combination skin including some really dry patches around my mouth).

   I started using retin-A about 5 months ago and decided to find a complimentary daily sunscreen to protect my new fragile skin. I wanted a all physical sunscreen to limit possible irritants. I found the Glycolix Elite spf 30 listed on Dr. Bailey’s blog and decided to give it a try. I have now been using it for 4 months and I recently started my second bottle.
   It has 17% zinc, which will give great broad spectrum protection, but it will leave a white cast. I agree with the previous reviewer, the white cast is the physical protection. I am a medium-tan-olive skintone (NW25) and I have found that a light dusting of powder is plenty to get rid of the white cast (and it adds kind of a glow underneath the powder!). I use 2-3 pumps per application (sometimes twice a day) and the bottle lasts about 2.5-3 months.
   The formula is a mid weight lotion texture. I do use CeraVe lotion under this sunscreen as well, and allow it to sink in for a minute or two. The sunscreen spreads so easily and soaks into the skin relatively quickly. Some people may feel it’s too heavy, but I don’t mind it at all (and I’m combination/oily). It holds up well under make up and doesn’t pill up.
   The most important! It’s so gentle! I can rub it on my eyelids and right up to my lower lash line without any stinging or irritation.
   The second most important! No clogs or breakouts.

   I will continue to use this sunscreen.

   A good psysical suncream has to leave a WHITE CAST, that is the protection you get that is what is blocking the uvb rays, so don’t complain about the WHITE in your face, instead be gratefull that you are protected. Please understand that you need that white to protect you, if you dont like use some bronzer on top. this is the best has a 17% of zinc oxide. It is like buyin a perfume and you dont want it to smell, like buying a lipstickr and you dont want it to color your lips. SUNSCREAM HAS TO LEAVE A WHITE CAST, THAT IS YOUR PROTECTION. Thanks,

    Gentle. Protects great. Great sanitary pump. Never broke me out. You will be white when wearing this, I wear this everyday & it lightens & brightens my already super pale skin quite nicely. I occasionally wear Double Wear over it when there is a special event, & it does great. And since Estee Lauder’s lightest shade in the yellow tones is too dark & too yellow for me, this sunblock lighhtens the 1W1 to a perfect match for my skin. For those that don’t have very, very pale skin – you cannot wear this by itself.
