I bought this because Consumer Reports recommends it. They gave it an excellent rating for UVA protection, and it meets the claim of SPF 40 for UVB protection. I bought a 3 oz tube for $5.99 at an Avon store. It has a floral scent that’s pretty strong when you first apply it. It has a flip cap that you can also twist off.
Active Ingredients:
Homosalate 9.5%
Oxybenzone 6.0%
Octisalate 4.75%
Avobenzone 3.0%
Octocrylene 2.8%
The pros:
-The tube opening is sealed when you buy it, so you just peel that off before using it.
-Smooth application. It’s creamy and easy to spread on skin.
-It felt good on my skin. It didn’t burn or feel sticky. My skin felt moisturized with this on.
-There’s not an expiration date on the tube, but Avon’s phone number is on the tube. I called, gave the rep the code number on the tube, and she told me that it expires July 1, 2018 (I bought it in May 2016).
-It easily came off when I cleansed my skin.
The cons:
-It’s thick and it left a visible film on my face – an opaque white residue that didn’t fade. When I first applied it I applied a lot (I’m used to my Neutrogena sunscreen that absorbs quickly even when I apply a lot), and after 45 minutes it still looked like I had a thick white paste on my face. I cleansed my skin, then applied a much thinner layer of the Avon sunscreen. After a few hours it still didn’t absorb, and it looked like I had a thin white paste on my face.
-It gave my face an oily/shiny look.
I’m going back to my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen for my face and neck, which doesn’t leave a visible film on my skin and absorbs quickly.
