This is one of the only sunscreens that my sensitive-skinned son can wear. I’ve tried many during his eight years, including formulas geared toward those with sensitive skin, like Avene and Aveeno Baby, only to have him break out in a rash after nearly every single one. At least one of these rashes required a trip to the pediatrician and treatment with Benadryl. Although we still haven’t isolated the irritants, we definitely ruled out any sunscreen with propellants years ago. This product is wonderful because it’s a spray without those chemical propellants. It’s far easier to apply than a thick cream, and when applied correctly, our kids don’t get sunburned. User error, such as not reapplying after swimming, is not the fault of the product. The large bottle lasts a LONG time, so I don’t consider it expensive. I’m currently using my second bottle and I know that I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. Drugstore.com is one of the only places I’ve found it. It contains both chemical and physical filters and I don’t find the other ingredients to be horrible at all. I much prefer natural products and this fits the bill. It’s also free from parabens and doesn’t leave a white cast. I’ll rebuy this as long as Kiss My Face makes it and doesn’t reformulate it with anything that could be a trigger.

I bought this thinking it was a natural alternative to chemical ridden sunscreens because I am expecting and read that commercial sunscreens often contain retynol palmitate, a chemical linked to birth defects. I know from the ingredients list that this does not contain that ingredient. However, when I looked up its Hazard rating on the skin deep database, it gets a 7/10! It’s ranked worse than a lot of brands you can find at Walmart and I paid over $18 for a bottle of this at my local health food store.
I found the spray in a bottle, not a can appealling because you get the convenience of a spray without the risk of inhaling it like you do with an aerosol can. It’s hard to apply evenly because it dries almost instantly and I always wonder if I’m wearing enough of it since it’s so thin. I hate the smell it smells nothing like it claims to. It’s non greasy, but leaves skin a bit shiny. I don’t burn while wearing it so it does its job.
Overall though, I’m not repurchasing because I’m not happy with the price considering it still full of chemicals.

First off, my disclaimer: I am not familiar with what sunscreen ingredients are considered natural and/or safe. I simply picked this stuff up because it’s by Kiss My Face (a fairly reliable and cheap natural brand) and it comes in a spray bottle. The active ingredients are Homosalate, Octisalate, Octinoxate and Oxybenzone, all of which are listed as giving either sun protection or extending the duration of the sun protection. The bottle says it blocks both UVA and UVB rays, is fragrance free and retains it’s SPF after 40 minutes in the water. I do notice that propylparaben is listed as an inactive ingredient though. I have always had a bit of a fascination with spray sunscreen, and the fact that this was made by a natural brand ensured that I would end up buying it. I use it mostly on my arms and use it nearly everyday. It’s more like a spray oil, which I like because there’s no white-chalky stuff to rub, rub, rub in. Instead this can be smoothed into your skin and then left for about 5 minutes while it absorbs. I don’t use it on my face, I think it would be way too greasy. Here’s why I love it though, it makes my skin so smooth and soft when I spray it on! I have acne-like KP on my upper arms and this stuff makes my skin there look super-good. And the texture feels smooth and moisturized, like I applied a body oil instead of sunscreen. Because of this, I have no trouble remembering to apply it everyday, and this is the first sunscreen where I’ve been able to say that. It does have a light sunscreen smell, but it’s not too heavy or lingering. The spray can be messy, so I just apply it in the shower before I get dressed. A couple of sprays and I’m good to go. I used to notice my arms getting warm when the sun hit them when I was driving in my car, but now when I wear this sunscreen I no longer get that. Good stuff that will definitely stay in my beauty cabinet and be packed along on my summer vacations.
