Its Zinc it is going to be thick; itis going to be white there is no getting around it. A sunscreen that says it is zinc oxide and clear is lying and won’t protect like true zinc oxide. With that said, yes it has a white cast. Yes, it is thick and yes it sticky. I wear it under my makeup and it is perfect for that. If you wear it at the beach, well think 80’s beach lifeguards with white noses. For the protection I love it.

This does not want to blend into the skin. I am very fair and I feel like it just sits on my skin. It looks weird and collects in certain areas. This also has quite a white cast. I haven’t felt any irritation like other reviewers. Alba Botanica makes a great mineral sunscreen. It can be done!

I have dry sensitive skin that’s acne prone, and this is the first sunscreen that hasn’t broke me out, dried out my skin or made me itchy! Also sits well under my make up

It’s a passable zinc sunscreen that gets itchy the longer I have it on. I got this to put on mornings after retinoid use, to avoid extra irritation. (Otherwise I go with something that works better under makeup.) This calms my red cheeks and looks okay on me, because I’m very fair-skinned. It has all the cons that come with mineral-only sunscreen: it’s thick and tough to spread, and it leaves a shiny, whitish finish. I would think a zinc-based sunscreen wouldn’t irritate, but after 3 hours, this itches like crazy. I can never keep it on, even with moisturizer underneath. I’ll use it up because it’s good for a quick dog walk out in the sun, but I’ll look for something truly gentle next time.

This sunscreen works well to protect my skin. Only drawback is that it leaves me itchy (slightly) and dry flakes on my dehydrated and sensitive skin. After moisturizing well, pat it in well and dont rub. It gives a nice shiny sheen (on my fair skin). Will recommend for use if engaging in outdoor activities but not daily use.

This is a product that makes me wonder, “What were they thinking?” It’s called “Sheer Zinc Dry-Touch Sunscreen” but there is absolutely nothing sheer or dry about it. It’s thick, nearly impossible to spread across the skin, and leaves a sticky, damp layer on the face. Second, if you have sensitive or oily skin (or both, like me), avoid this product. Just rubbing it in made my skin turn blotchy red and burn/tingle. The thickness of the product makes it impossible to apply, and the white cast you see initially does not go away. My skin tone is NW20 and I could not rub the product in enough to make the white cast disappear. Women with darker skin tones will not be able to avoid a white shiny layer on their skin. And it never dries. I held my hot-flash fan in front of my face hoping to dry the product enough so I could apply my foundation and finally gave up. When I applied my liquid foundation, it went on splotchy and streaky, and I couldn’t even it out; so, I cleaned my face and started over. I used makeup remover to remove the sunscreen, then washed my face, then applied my moisturizer. My skin can’t handle lots of rubbing, so applying sunscreen/makeup, then removing sunscreen/makeup, followed by applying sunscreen/makeup would tear it up; so, I applied a light layer of BB cream and left it at that. I normally love Neutrogena products, but this is a big bad NO for me. I’ll keep it and use it on the backs of my hands, but that’s it. My face can’t survive this product.

Sticky, thickly and eye irritating, be careful if you have oily and sensitive skin.

I don’t understand the bad reviews. This is a terrific sunscreen. It is a high percentage of zinc, I don’t expect it to be as elegant as some other formulations I have tried at higher price points. I personally don’t mind the little bit of sheen. I would not call it a white cast. It does not bother me too much, I rub it in well, let it dry down. It works, it’s a good price and it doesn’t make my skin break out. Actually, Zinc sunscreens like this have always had the pleasant side effect of keeping my skin clear. I used Avene VHP for years before the formula was changed completely to Titanium Dioxide only. I apply sunscreen under a black light so I can see how well protected I am and this sunscreen passed that test with satisfaction.
***UPDATE*** This sunscreen is amazing and discontinued.

I left my holy grail Elta MD at they first place on my trip which was a real bummer. Drugstore sunscreens just simply suck compared to the good niche sunscreens out there. Bought this one without checking makeup alley and i sure hope it is working because my face was white all day and it seemed really hard to get it off afterwards. We are at the beach in Florida and I don’t really have a choice so I will continue to use this for this vacation and afterwards it’s going to be only for my kids. Maybe I would use it on a ski vaca. Have been experimenting with mixing it with other creams to get it more pleasant to wear.

This is honestly one of the worst sunscreen i have ever used.
Its so thick and difficult to spread. By the time i have sort of spreaded it out, my face is all red and irritated. Furthermore, it seems to never dry?? Its too sticky and uncomfortable for me. Definitely not a good sunscreen if u live in a humid country.
