So I switched to cruelty free products and wanted a high PPD replacement for Bioderma while I found a suitable European cruelty-free high PPD product. Apparently at 20% zinc oxide offers a PPD of about 10, so I looked for something in that range.
This has 20% ZO so I got it. It’s thick and when I apply it properly takes 10 minutes to really sink in, but you’re supposed to wait that long to apply makeup over sunscreen anyway so no big deal.
BUT nano-sized ZO offers very little protection apparently. Like, you may as well be using some crappy sunscreen because all you’re getting UVB protection vs UVA, which is what I’m after. The website is sketch about details – somehow they’re not nano but they are a little bit nano? Their particles are small enough to be nano in some countries but not others.
Zero breakouts, zero irritation. If you have sensitive skin this is a good one to try.
I will put up with a white cast and zero dry down if I’m getting the UVA protection I’m after, but this doesn’t give me that. Back to Ulta it goes.

A very thick sunscreen. For its high zinc content the white cast is considered minimal but it’s there.
My complaint is it never dries down on my combination skin and really feel heavy.

This is officially my holy grail sunscreen!! I’ve tried DOZENS of sunscreens and most break me out, cause reactions, or feel greasy and nasty on my skin, but not this one. I read several reviews that claimed this had a “blurring” effect, and I assumed those reviewers probably just had great skin, but they were right. I have acne scarring and it evened it out so well, gave my skin an even toned finish, and feels velvety and soft on my skin. I have acne rosacea and when I go out in the sun for long periods of time it causes breakouts but this prevents that issue for me. I highly reccomend this sunscreen if you have sensitive, acne prone skin.

I read about this sunscreen brand long ago as being one of the best, so when I saw it at Ulta, immediately bought it.
I wanted a 100% mineral sunscreen with no white cast and the highest percentage of zinc dioxide. Both the “Sensitive” and “Flawless complexion” have 20%, but the sensitive one has 1 extra ounce for the same price. The best thing is that unknowingly, I had 3dlls. on Ulta money, so I just payed 16dlls. for it.
Lately I hate the idea of multipurpose products, as after trying many, none really works fully as intended, so I have no problem with this sunscreen not being moisturizing. As it’s silicon based, it works mildly as a primer -which I never use- helping the foundation to glide effortlessly.
My current routine is as follows: wash with Conair brush and exfoliate if needed, apply Fig&Yarrow oil over still damp skin, massage until fully absorbed, apply Cotz sunscreen all over the face and let it sit, until it appears matte.
So far, I’m liking it despite not noticing my sun spots fading -although they’re not darker either-. Hopefully this time, I will actually finish the tube -unlike my other sunscreens that are abandoned before using half of the product-.
UPDATE: After a few weeks using it, I stopped and tried another sunscreen, came back to this one, but changed the routine: now I’m applying it right after cleansing, mixed with my foundation, I rub it all over my face until it’s absorbed and apply a layer of powder sunscreen.

I like to use physical sunscreens as moisturizers for my face because they seem to do a better job and help control my very oily skin. This is one I tried and it was pretty good, but not the best one I’ve tried. No white cast though, which is a plus.

This is super heavy, but that is no surprise since it is a silicone based 20% zinc oxide sunscreen. I am a chemical sunscreen fan generally, but wanted to try an all-physical one because I have heard that physical sunscreens give you more wiggle room when it comes to reapplying (because chemical sunscreens break down after two hours of exposure, but physical still sits on your skin until you wash it off). As much as I know I should reapply often, it is just not going to happen every time I’m outside for the day.
Along with feeling heavy, it stays tacky and shiny through the day. You won’t forget you have this on. It is also pretty stubborn stuff. I am used to a double cleanse, but this takes extra effort to remove. It is drying if I wear it more than two days or so in a row, but that is pretty typical of physical sunscreens and this is far from the worst offender.
The biggest pro by far is that this is a full zinc sunscreen with very little white cast (I am NW15). It is definitely the most wearable physical sunscreen I have ever tried.
This is not my favorite sunscreen and it doesn’t come out often but it is good to have in the rotation. It sits somewhere between everyday sunscreens (where looks matter) and the serious beach stuff (the who-cares-what-I-look-like stuff). If I am going to be really specific, this is afternoon at a baseball game material. Looks OK, but protection is priority.

I really love this stuff. When Josie Maran changed the formulation of her sunscreen I switched to Cotz after a friend recommended it. I really like it. I’m super dry so I could do with it being a bit more moisturizing but I can live with it the way it is. The Cotz Flawless Complexion is tinted and I think it’s bit more moisturizing.
The price is fairly cheap, too, so that’s a plus.

This product applied nice & there is no white cast. It held up nice through the day, but for some reason my chin area look like it was getting tiny raised bumps. Um, no thank you! I also broke out in a matter of 2 days. I will return this:(

I really like this sunscreen, but I took off 1 lippy for how thick it is. I have oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin. This stuff has 20% zinc oxide (impressive) and somehow does not leave a white cast. This stuff is mineral-sunscreen only, and super gentle on the skin (you can straight up get this stuff in your eye and it’s not going to burn). This stuff is really thick, and feels very thick, which is not a great thing. HOWEVER, if you wait 5 minutes, this stuff absorbs beautifully. It seriously leaves a super satin-like (not dewy, not matte) finish with very minimal shine. I’ve worn this underneath makeup and it didn’t really affect the way my makeup applied, but I would recommend letting this sink in for about 5-10 minutes before applying makeup. This doesn’t burn, dry out my skin, or make it feel greasy. Also btw this stuff can separate in the tube so shake it up well before you use it! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a mineral-based sunscreen.
