I no longer use chemical sunscreens, due to the fact that they may not be safe, and that on my face they burn and sting, some more than others. I’ve found a few mineral sunscreens that have a low cast that I can live with, but I wanted a tinted sunscreen for my arms, and/or legs, for the extra protection iron oxides provide against visible light. There aren’t many of them (tinted sunscreens for the body) but this one is pretty decent.
The color is a neutral beige. It blends right into my light to medium light skin, and leaves no streaks. I would imagine it wouldn’t work for skin tones darker than medium. It’s definately moisturizing. I’ve had no irritation from it. The sheer tint helps to diminish freckles and those little dark sun damage spots. Like most sunscreens, it leaves a slightly tacky finish that does not diminish. And it WILL transfer onto your clothing, so I don’t wear it with really light colors. It helps if you wait a while before dressing, letting the sunscreen set a little bit. And of course, it’s on the pricey side. If I had to use it all over my body, the little 3 oz tube wouldn’t last long….but, for just my arms, and considering I don’t need to reapply because I avoid the sun as much as I can, 3oz should last several weeks. Those are the only negatives I can think of, though, and I will definately repurchase.

The Cotz Brand has been one I’d been meaning to review for a long time. I found the old packaging Cotz SPF on sale at Marshall’s recently so this was a good chance to give it a try. My first reaction to using the Cotz Pure Bontanicals & Minerals SPF 45 is… WOW… this stuff is greasy!! This is probably the most ultra hydrating sunscreen I’ve ever used. I guess seeing shea butter as the first ingredient, it shouldn’t be that surprising. This SPF is definitely geared towards those with very dry skin. I cannot imagine anyone with very oily skin liking this sunscreen.
When you apply this sunscreen it gives off a shine to skin. It takes a while for this to dry down, I usually get inpatient and just set it with powder. This sunscreen is also pretty thick, which makes it difficult to use under foundation without a little bit of pilling. If you use a foundation over this sunscreen I recommend using a long wearing foundation that sets to a matte finish, otherwise I find that my skin looks like an oil slick by the middle of the day. This with very dry skin will probably appreciate this sunscreen. Although, I do think in the winter time when my skin gets very dry could make this sunscreen a bit more usable.
