If you are like me, and you have concerns about chemical UV absorbers, try this product. It uses Zinc Oxide as the main active ingredient, it has no fragrances and colors. It feels a bit greasy on the skin and definitely leaves a white film which slowly melts into your skin as you go. The price is good, the packaging is good, it works good. I would definitely buy it again.

This is pretty good considering it’s natural and doesn’t cause me to break out. I do put it under makeup which helps with the whiteness. It’s not perfect though, just the best natural one I’ve found so far.

I use this for ‘serious’ stuff, e.g. beach walks etc.
However, on a daily basis, I would not use this but use NI’s Advanced Daily Protection Moisturiser SPF 30+ instead. I’ve been using that product for at least 2 years now, after reading how bad the chemical sunscreens are, as well as the nano stuff. I thought having a white cast from this zinc oxide (physical sunscreen) is a small price to pay if I could avoid the health issues from those other sunscreens.
I do my normal skincare routine in the morning, let that sink in and then pat my face and eyes with toilet paper to remove excess moisturiser – this means my makeup stays on better, and no running eyeshadow! I then apply my makeup. Once that is complete, I then squeeze a small amount of the NI Moisturiser SPF30 product (the size of a small pearl – about half my index finger’s nail) and pat it between my fingers so the product spreads out thin on my fingers – I then pat the lower part of my face with my fingers. I repeat this for the upper half of my face. I sometimes use 3 ‘pearls’. Slight shimmer/sheen, but no white cast. I might even say this gives me a dewy look! Not bad for someone nearing 50!
I’ve always read that you put the sunscreen on BEFORE makeup, but I’ve found it much better to put the sunscreen on AFTER. Yeah, I know that product is a moisturiser too, but I don’t use it as a moisturiser. However, I’m sure that the fact that it is also a moisturiser means that it blends in as well as I’ve discovered. I did want to get a sunscreen-only product but I think the shop didn’t have it at the time, so I bought the moisturiser instead.
I did wonder if it’s very effective. Anyway, one day, I was out, sitting about 20 metres from the water for at least an hour (team lunch) and it was a very hot and sunny day – I was sitting in the shade but facing the water – the reflection off the water was pretty strong. I then walked for 20 – 25 mins in full sun. I had applied the Natural Instinct SPF30+ Moisturiser product on my face that morning, but not on my chest. Later that day, I noticed that I was burnt on the chest (not badly) – but not on my face. That was testament to me, that the product worked, even though I had applied it minimally, as described above. If I were spending more time under full sun, I would most certainly apply more – but would probably switch to the pure sunscreen product.
I hope Natural Instinct continues making the moisturiser with SPF30+ as I would be lost without it. The price is good, it works for me, and it looks darn good. If you’re having trouble with the whiteness of the Natural Mineral Sunblock Cream SPF30 product, then you might like to consider the Moisturiser with SPF30 instead.

The product i’m reviewing is called micro-mineral suncreen spf30+ which comes as a yellow tube. This product is extremely whitening and it just made me look like a geisha (no joke and my teeth look yellowish compared to my face). Thanks god I tested it on my face on Sun or I’d just be so screwed up if I were to use it in the morning before I go to work. I did use it on my hands and it turned out fine. I just can’t understand how something that is labelled micro-mineral and clear zinc can be so whitening on face. I’m so sad.

This is a fantastic zinc sunscreen. I’ve used invisible zinc before which left my face really greasy. This sunscreen sinks into my skin and has a matte finish- it takes about 3 mins to sink in. It does not have too bad a white cast. My skin is dark and I don’t find that the color an issue. INvisible zinc caused a noticable color change. Overall I’d buy this again. Taking a lippie off for the yucky packaging.
UPDATE- the new formula ‘micromineral’ suncreen is simply horrible. The new formula (now in a yellow tube) is very hick and paste like. Goes on thick and heavy. Leaves my face very very white-people have been telling me my makeup colour is the wrong shade. Smells kind of funny and irritates my eyes. The old formula was wonderful this is rubbish. Wouldn’t repurchase again and I want to throw away the one I have. I can’t even use it on the rest if my body- it makes it look too grey/white. Thank god I bought the small size.

At the risk of sounding like a financial investor, I love this for it price to performance ratio.
I have been using this for 6 months now and I had no issues with breakouts. Compare this with LRP and Neutrogena which caused little zit after being left on my face just for 1 day.
I use this under my mineral makeup. It does have a whitish cast but that also helps to make my skin tone look even, so I am not complaining.
The texture out of the tube might put some people off at first, as it is thick and pasty. However, once you have applied it evenly, and it has dried, the finish is matte. My only gripe is that it does take 5 mins or so before it dries out, and I sometimes do not have this time in the mornings, especially after the 5 mins for my Vit C serum to sink-in. I do not have that many 5 mins in the mornings…
It is a tad drying but I overcome that by using a little more moisturizer underneath.
Would definitely buy again if I do not find something else. (Not because I am unhappy with it, but because I am such a junkie, that I have to trying new stuff all the time. Raise your hands if you understand this!)

I bought my Natural Instincts Mineral Sunblock a while ago at one of the health food store. the price was quite cheap, considering its large size.
when apply, its matte, however, it does leave a white residue (most sunscreen contains zinc, it wil leave a qhite cast) . But if you massage it in circular motion for about 30sec-1 minute, the white cast will almost disappear. its sun protection is very high but you have to reapply it every 4h when contact with water to ensure you dont get burn. (since its main ingredient is 200mg zinc).
I will buy this product again to use for my body. But for a face sunscreen, i would prefer Grahams spf 30+.

Wow this is as good as most of the reviews are saying. I saw it in the shops while buying toddler sunscreen and thought I’d look it up here first.
I have used invisible zinc which is greasy, leaves a white cast and stinks. I generally use a very thin liquid like the nivea light face veil because with oily acned skin I don’t want to add any more gunk.
This is great. I applied really quickly, it looked like it was going to leave a cast but voilà a little more rubbing in and it was fine. Not quite matte on me bit not tight or hurting my aha peeled, diferin, topical antibiotics and daily aha sensitive acned skin.
I will buy the small size to have with me always to top up and will be recomending it to everyone.

Thanks to MUA for this one! I doubt I’d even notice this in the shops and probably would have bought Invisible Zinc again for 3x the price (thinking it was the only mineral sunscreen around). I like this way better than IZ though. The texture is much more fluid, and blends into the skin easier. It also matte in appearance when dry, and doesn’t feel heavy on the face like IZ and traditional sunscreens. It doesn’t cause any ghostly cast on me either. I’m 20 and have been wanting to start using sun protection every day (being very pale in Australia’s not a great mix), but I’ve been put off by acne-causing heavy sunscreens that I used in the past. This product doesn’t seem to cause pimples, but I did notice two clogged pores on my chin after wearing. It also takes a while after application to turn matte. It’s not as matte as I hoped, but nothing a bit of powder doesn’t fix. For those reasons, I took off 1 lipstick. I’ve only used it twice, but that’s usually enough time for me to judge whether my skin will break out. I’ll put up with the occasional clogged pore if it means my overall skin health will be much better in the future. The best thing is that it’s sold locally. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative to traditional suncreams…it really is very effective for the price.

Were it not for the reviews on here, I would have never known about this. I’ve been searching for a zinc oxide based sunscreen without the accompanying stickyness/whiteness factors for quite a long time. Along with my desire to find something that does not immediately slide off in hot weather, it was a tall order that I thought would never be fulfilled. Well, this sunscreen does everything I want it to do: It has a cosmetically elegant finish after it absorbs (as someone below said, you have to apply this evenly, you can’t just slap it on and run out the door), my skin feels smooth, and there is only the slightest hint of a white cast (which could be do to my not rubbing the product in completely around places like the bridge of the nose, etc…). I am extremely impressed.
Since I’m in the US, I’ll have to order it online from Australian retailers, but I will put up with that minor inconvenience to keep having this around. Price-wise, I find this really reasonable, it is about even with what you would pay for USA sunblocks in drugstores, maybe even slightly cheaper.
