I’m surprised by the horrible reviews. Finding mineral sunscreen lip balms is hard enough, there are very few out there, and when you find the two or three available out there, they are typically only SPF 15, non-moisturizing and have a ghastly white cast. This one is not only an impressive SPF 45, it’s non-drying for my chronically dry lips (it glides on softly and feels very comfortable, even a little like it melts on/buttery), but it goes on color-neutral. I’m light-medium skin toned and this adds no color to my lips. More importantly, it doesn’t make my lips white-ish, like some other true-zinc SPF lippies do. This isn’t a popular or prestige beauty brand, but it works. I suspect all the other bad reviewers might have stale products that might have been sitting on the self too long or possibly expired? I love this SPF lip balm! 2nd runner up and even cheaper for a zinc SPF lip balm are the ones from All Good. But they’re only SPF 15. They aren’t tinted but also don’t go on whitish (except their SPF 20 version, beware!), and are about half the price of Cotz. If you don’t care much about the lower SPF and the Cotz tint scares you, give All Good a try.

My review is on Cotz’ Lip Balm – Lightly Tinted SPF 45 Broad Spectrum, Water Resistant 80 Minutes, 100% Free of Chemical Sunscreens, Oil, Lanolin, Gluten. It comes in a mint green & lemon yellow packaging; so please note the packaging looks different from pictured above as of 6/17/19. The actives are Titanium Dioxide 4.0% and Zinc Oxide 5.5%.
The texture of this product is light but moisturizing and I strongly prefer that all my sunscreen products be mineral-based, like in this lip balm. Those are the main things that are good about this lip balm but everything else is terrible.
Here are the cons:
– The main issue is that it produces a slightly numbing/borderline irritating feel on the lips, along with some sort of off-citrus-y flavor. The ingredients do list “flavor” (without specifying what the heck it could be) and ginger root oil (which also serves to mask fragrance and flavor). I’m going to assume that these 2 ingredients are what I find immediately unpleasant about this lip balm the instant I apply it. And it happens every time I apply it. I would normally return this product but it cost only $5 and I got it on Amazon, so I can’t bear the idea of returning this thing even it doesn’t cost me anything to do so. I’ve decided that I don’t like it but I hope I can just use it up somehow without it ruining my lips.
– Tint is just mildly better than the dead zombie lips look that concealer-shade nude lip colors impart. Depending on your skin tone, it may not be as bad as some others have written here but it is a variation of unflattering medium-slightly dark beige.
So I just swatched it on the back of my hand to look at the exact shade and I actually feel the swatched skin slightly burn/tingle! That is NOT good! I’m actually going to see about returning this because it’s terrible.
If I can, I’ll upload pics of packaging and list of ingredients.

The only thing I like about this is the sun protection. It has a weird taste and smell, is tinted light brown, and is not particularly moisturizing. Definitely not for someone with dry peely lips, because this will accentuate the dryness and make you look like your lips are dirty/gunky.

Color is BROWN. TRUE CHOCOLATE BROWN.
Literally makes me look potty-mouthed. I kid you not.
Unless you plan on putting lipstick over it every time – NO.
For $7 I’d go with Jack Black.
